What we’re about
There are a lot of sci-fi and fantasy clubs, but this one is specifically for fems and thems (but open to all friendly folx and allies) who love science fiction, fantasy, gaming, and more geeky goodness. Engage in conversation about creative works and activities with others who share a common interest in things like parallel worlds, speculative futures and alternative histories.
While we started in 2018 as a book club, we have since branched out into a variety of fun stuff. There's a monthly book club, but also a discord with opportunities for things like watch-alongs and extended discussion with new friends. We are intentional about the spaces we create and the media we share, with a focus on reading books, playing games, and featuring discussions on underrepresented creators and characters. We welcome anyone who wants to share more media created by women, LGBTQ+ folx, and authors who are Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and international authors who expand our perspectives beyond our headquarter state of Texas.
Our organizers set the intention of making every event a safe space for people to share and be themselves. All are welcome to come and geek out with us!

What is this thing? It’s our monthly virtual watch party! For Avatar: The Last Airbender! We’ll watch the next 3 episodes and then have some social time afterwards to discuss the eps/show and whatever’s interesting y’all these days (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, RPGs, LGBTQ+ goodies, pop culture, you-name-it). Before we dive into the episodes, we’ll introduce ourselves so everyone gets a chance to share who they are and say hi.
Whether you’re a diehard Avatar: The Last Airbender fan or a first-time viewer, we hope you can hangout for a little!
Episodes we will watch:
Didn't catch any of the other episodes with us? That's okay! Avatar is easy to jump into and get your bearings. Plus, we can watch the "previously on" section of show to ensure you get a summary on what the gang got up to last time.
Where is it taking place? This event will take place on our Discord server, in the Watch Party voice channel. I will share the link with attendees the day of the event via email. On Discord, I will share my screen and make the magic happen.

How often does this watch party happen? It happens every month. Sometimes we watch the same series–sometimes we switch it up. Right now, we're on an Avatar: The Last Airbender kick.

- Book Club: Thistlefoot by GennaRose NethercottLink visible for attendees
Happy New Year! Time to set new reading goals and jump start that TBR! Since this group doesn't have a traditional discussion in December, we read a series or longer book between November and December.
This winter we will be reading Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott.
Here's a description from the publisher's website:
The Yaga siblings—Bellatine, a young woodworker, and Isaac, a wayfaring street performer and con artist—have been estranged since childhood, separated both by resentment and by wide miles of American highway. But when they learn that they are to receive an inheritance, the siblings agree to meet—only to discover that their bequest isn’t land or money, but something far stranger: a sentient house on chicken legs.
Thistlefoot, as the house is called, has arrived from the Yagas’ ancestral home outside Kyiv—but not alone. A sinister figure known only as the Longshadow Man has tracked it to American shores, bearing with him violent secrets from the past: fiery memories that have hidden in Isaac and Bellatine’s blood for generations. As the Yaga siblings embark with Thistlefoot on a final cross-country tour of their family’s traveling theater show, the Longshadow Man follows in relentless pursuit, seeding destruction in his wake. Ultimately, time, magic, and legacy must collide—erupting in a powerful conflagration to determine who gets to remember the past and craft a new future.

- The Monthly Writing PartyLink visible for attendees
Wanna get some writing done? Well, it’s your lucky day! Here’s a timeblock just for you and a few other writer nerds to put some words on some pages.
What is this thing? It’s a dedicated time and space to write–and an opportunity to help build a writer community. Whether you’re starting a sci-fi novella, in the middle of an epic fantasy, about to wrap up a fanfic, re-writing a short story, or [insert what you're working on here], welcome to the writing party! We hope you can make progress on your writing goals and make a couple writing friends along the way.
What to expect:
- 7:00-7:15pm: Say hi to fellow writers, share a little about what you’re working on, what your session goal is, etc.
- 7:15-8:45pm: Write! It’s just that: Write. You can either turn off your camera and mute yourself or leave the Writing Party channel while you write. If you find yourself wanting to chat with other writers during this time, remember folks are here to focus on writing. You’ll be able to chat with everyone again at 8:45pm.
- 8:45-9:00pm: Share how your writing session went. Did you accomplish your goal? Write some snappy dialogue? Change a chapter’s structure to make the story flow better? Bang your head against your keyboard? Tell the group and celebrate/commiserate!
Where is it taking place? This event will take place on our Discord server, in the Writing Party voice channel. I will share the link with attendees the day of the event. On Discord, I will share my screen and make the magic happen.

- Book Club: Parable of the Sower by Octavia ButlerLink visible for attendees
It's time.
It's past time.
If you haven't read this book yet, the time has come.
If you have read this book before, it's a great time to refresh your understanding of the cycles humanity repeats and the importance of stories or resilience, resistance, and love. This Black History Month, we will be reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler.
Here's a description from the author's website:
When global climate change and economic crises lead to social chaos in the early 2020s, California becomes full of dangers, from pervasive water shortage to masses of vagabonds who will do anything to live to see another day. Fifteen-year-old Lauren Olamina lives inside a gated community with her preacher father, family, and neighbors, sheltered from the surrounding anarchy. In a society where any vulnerability is a risk, she suffers from hyperempathy, a debilitating sensitivity to others’ emotions.
Precocious and clear-eyed, Lauren must make her voice heard in order to protect her loved ones from the imminent disasters her small community stubbornly ignores. But what begins as a fight for survival soon leads to something much more: the birth of a new faith . . . and a startling vision of human destiny.
