This hike will Start an End in the Washington Crossing parking lot (NJ). Adjacent to the Nelson House near the Washington Crossing Bridge, pictured in the feature photo. See Pin. There are rest rooms where we'll Start. They may not be open until we finish. It will be 4 1/2 miles through woods, up and down hills, along creeks and over wooden bridges. We will pass historical sites, a nature center, a observation shack we can use and even over Rt 29 by way of a pedestrian bridge. This is a very scenic vigorous hike and I strongly recommend good hiking boots, a hiking stick, water to drink and a snack. We will hike at a moderate 2 mph pace breaking multiple times to rest, take pictures, or just enjoy our surroundings. And one longer break at the nature center pavilion to sit and have a snack. This should be an enjoyable hike. Not a "let's see how fast we can run through the woods" experience. We'll get plenty of exercise taking our time and hopefully seeing some wildlife. This park is loaded with beautiful views, worthy of a few pictures. So come enjoy the natural beauty it has to offer. I posted some photos, so you know what to expect. Hope you can make it. This 6 mile hike will take about 4 1/2 hours. It will Start an End in the parking area off the entrance of Sourland Mountain Preserve pictured in the feature photo. There are porta pots where we'll start. We will begin our hike going up a steady, steep incline. It's about 1 1/2 miles over very rocky terrain and continues on a winding rocky trail through the woods. It's a challenging and strenuous hike negotiating around this rough landscape with beautiful boulders strewn about. Good hiking boots, hiking poles and plenty of water are a must. And don't forget to bring something to eat. I guarantee this hike will work up an appetite. We'll stop at various points for breaks, to take pictures and one longer break to have something to eat and rest. The second part of the trail is flatter and somewhat downhill but still exhilarating. Expect a good workout. But the natural beauty of this preserve is well worth the effort. I've posted some pictures to give you a feel for the trail. Hope you can make it. Paul

The hike will Start an End in the parking lot At Smith Woods Park Area 39 E. Railroad Ave, pictured in the feature photo. There are rest rooms along the way and plenty of parking. We will be hiking parts of the White, Red, Blue and Green trails. Also we'll side track around some playing fields for a total distance of about 5 miles. And to get a little extra calorie burn, we'll stop and dance in place several times along the way. There will be some hills and steps involved. We will go down wooded dirt trails, walk along a crushed gravel path next to Rancocas Creek, go through a historical section of Smithville Park and cross a floating bridge over part of Smithville Lake. We'll leave a painted inspirational rock to mark our presence. And you might find one I left prior to the hike. If you do, expect a surprise. The Park is diverse and scenic. The trails are a mixture of Terrain. I recommend hiking boots and water. I find a hiking stick useful as well. There might be wet spots in some areas. Also, I've added pictures to give you a feel for the trail. Early morning is a great time to hike. Hope you'll give it a try. Paul

This hike will Start an End at the Speedwell Entrance on (Rt 563) of the Franklin Parker Preserve pictured in the feature Photo. Use Pin for exact location. There is a porta pot where we'll start. We'll be hiking the yellow Trail. It's a 5 mile hike through woods, over some small boards, next to a reservoir, between marsh lands and down curved sandy roads. Very diverse and interesting views to say the least. Mostly flat but expect a good workout, none the less. I'll leave a painted inspirational rock marking our presence. As always, we'll take our time (about 2 miles an Hr) stopping when needed. To rest, snap a photo or just enjoy our surroundings. I've included some photos, so you know what to expect.
