What we’re about
Welcome, Denver Cinephiles!
Denver Cinema Club is a social group for people who love independent, foreign, and classic films. We see four or five films a week, typically at the theaters in central Denver. After watching a film, we usually go to a nearby restaurant to have a snack or drink, chat about the movie, and socialize. It's a diverse, friendly group, and everyone is welcome.
In addition to our regular outings, we also attend special events: film festivals, trivia contests, seasonal mixers, Oscar parties, free screenings, etc. Watch your Meetup calendar for these, too.
We encourage group participation: we invite members to organize events of their own, and we have a discussion board and Facebook page for any film-related topics you'd like to bring up. We also publish a monthly newsletter of club news and reviews, the Denver Cinema Club Dispatch.
We hope to see you soon!

See all- They Call Her Death (2024, Austin Snell) @ Sie FilmCenterSie FilmCenter, Denver, CO
SieFilmCenter is screening They Call Her Death (2024, Austin Snell) on Saturday, April 19, at 7:00 PM. I know next to nothing about it, other than that it's a low-budget horror-western with some gory kills. A grindhouse throwback kind of thing?
If that sounds like your kind of thing, please join me! I will be in the lobby starting between 6:30 and 6:45 PM holding a black-and-yellow Denver Cinema Club sign for meet and greet. I will head to my seat at 6:55 PM.
If at least two other attendees wish to discuss the film, we will head to a nearby venue after the screening (Bruz on Fax, most likely).

DESCRIPTION
On the wild frontier of the American prairie, Molly Pray is on a bloody crusade against the criminal forces that have wronged her. She shows no mercy, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake on a mission that ultimately strikes at the heart of the American identity and the notion of manifest destiny. But for Molly Pray – who has the embodied specter of death on her side – this isn’t political. This is personal.
- JEOPARDY! Bar League Trivia - Alamo Sloans Lake - Sunday, April 20 - 4:30 PMAlamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake, Denver, CO
Join DCC for JEOPARDY! Bar League trivia at BarFly, the bar at the Sloans Lake Alamo Drafthouse. Valery will be our host this week. The contest starts at 5:00, but the group will meet at 4:30 to stake out seats, place food and/or drink orders, and strategize.
It's free to play, though BarFly--understandably--would like participants to order something. Teams can have up to six players; if more than six DCCers show up, the group will split into two teams.
Here is the web page for the game. You'll find some DCCers among the photos for March 9, March 30, and April 13.
Valery will aim for the couches on the south side of the bar, along the windows overlooking Colfax. Look for a small Denver Cinema Club sign. Arrive early if you can, and help save seats!
- Sie Members Only Event - The Cat (1988) - Monday, 4/21 at 6:45 pmSie FilmCenter, Denver, CO
You must be a member of the Sie for this event. Recommend getting your ticket early. Free events likely to fill up. Link here
From the Sie:
Every month Denver Film staff pick a film to present for FREE to our members as a way to introduce themselves and to share a film watching experience that means a lot to them. This month, Asher Rosales - Operations Manager Manager, Sie FilmCenter - has chosen a German deep cut from the amazing Radiance label. The film is a sibling to our THICK AS THIEVES series that could've felt right at home amid that list of classic heist films.Germany’s answer to DOG DAY AFTERNOON comes in the form of THE CAT, a thrilling and gritty bank heist thrill-ride of the highest order. Two criminals hold up a bank and its clerks and demand 3 million marks as a ransom. The police arrive to stop the pair, unaware that an accomplice on the outside is working to ensure the robbers’ escape. Loaded with unpredictable plot twists and shot with a moody grit that only heightens the tension, THE CAT is a tightly wound thriller that’ll leave you locked in your seat with excitement
The movie starts at 7:00 and I'll be in the lobby at 6:45 holding a small Denver Cinema Club sign.
After the movie we will walk a couple blocks to Bruz off Fax for tasty Belgium beers (or rootbeer) and discussion. Bruz has light snacks (tinned fish, warm pretzels, toasted pizza).

- Volunteer at Food Bank of the Rockies - Hinkley High School - April 22 - 3-6 PMHinkley High School, Aurora, CO
.
****Important!**** Before RSVPing for this event:- Carefully read the full description below.
- Register for the April 22 "Mobile Pantry - Hinkley HS" event on the Food Bank of the Rockies volunteer calendar. (If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one.) If the event does not appear on the calendar, that means it is full--but check back periodically because volunteer spots often open up as the date approaches.
We had fun at our first food bank volunteer outing, and I will schedule them regularly as long as there is interest. The volunteer slots tend to fill up quickly, so I am scheduling the events well in advance.
Our first outing was at the food bank warehouse. This time we'll go to Hinkley High School to distribute food to members of the community. Here is the job description from the food bank site:
Volunteers will be off-site helping to check-in and distribute food to members of the community, and may be asked to help set-up and take-down. Expect to be on your feet for the duration of the shift as well as some lifting, bending, etc. Spanish-English bilingual volunteers are especially helpful.
If this sounds enjoyable to you, join us! After working, those interested can join me somewhere nearby for dinner. I'm thinking El Pelicano, but I'm open to suggestions.
The number of volunteers is limited by the food bank, and we will probably not be the only ones there. Reserve your place using the link above, then RSVP for this event. You may bring guests, just make sure they sign up with the food bank, too. If your plans change and you can't go, be sure to cancel your place at the food bank and change your RSVP here.
I'll arrive by 2:45 to greet my fellow DCCers. I hope to see you there!
