What we’re about

  • Who should join? 55+ avid riders who want a social ride with a few technical challenges thrown in. Our ride events can range from beginner to advanced and will be labeled accordingly.
  • Our rides typically accommodate both average and faster riders by splitting into two groups or by having add-on options for those who want to go faster or farther.
  • The intermediate rides will be 12-20 miles of green/blue singletrack and 1k-3k of vertical elevation change with some difficult technical sections. Plan on 2-3 hours a ride. 2-12 riders per ride. Rides are intended to be social, challenging, and reasonably paced so everyone has a good time.
  • You should be prepared to navigate on your own and do your own trailside maintenance.
  • Zoom meetup discussions could include upcoming ride logistics and planning, questions about gear, ride location suggestions, trail apps, training, life, beer, etc..
  • Most of our rides can be found on REI's MTB PROJECT or TRAILFORKS. Be sure to download Colorado maps ahead of time so you can navigate without needing a cell connection. https://www.mtbproject.com/mobile-app
  • Class 1 e-MTBs are welcome on most rides, rules permitting. Ask the event manager or Mark if you are unsure which venues allow e-bikes.
  • My intent in starting 55+CMTB was to keep older riders engaged in mountain biking by scheduling doable but challenging rides with people who enjoy being around each other. We value kindness, mutual respect, and generosity in this group. We expect all members to be welcoming, supportive, and encouraging of others. Anger, bullying, or persistent unwanted advances will not be tolerated at our events, in group comments, or member-to-member correspondence. Remaining a member of this group is a privilege and not a right.
  • We welcome and encourage non-biking events as well. Contact Mark if you have something particular in mind.
  • If you want to be an event leader, contact Mark Spoor at 303-669-9107 to discuss.
  • Fundraising donations to this group are NOT required but are appreciated. Donating $50 or more will get you a Free Timber MTB Bell, suitable for warning hikers and wildlife that you are coming down the trail. They sell for $30 on Amazon.
