Des Plaines Public Library Events for Adults

Meet fellow board gamers! Join as at the Library for a night of drop-in board gaming. Play one of our games from the Library's collection or bring your own.

The board game night will meet in Meeting Room B/C.

Do you have stories to tell? Are there memories that you would like to share with your friends and family?

Starting November 7th, this six-week workshop is designed to translate past events into cohesive stories. Each week we will write several stories from prompts meant to stir memories that were important parts of your life story. After the program ends participants can continue to add to their memoirs by following the exercises in the workbook (as well as other writing sources from the library).

Past participants found this program to be meaningful, both writing their stories and also the act of sharing them with others in the workshop. Those who complete the workshop will receive a printed booklet of their writing to share with friends and family.

The workshop will meet at the Des Plaines Public Library in Room A on the first floor. Limited availability. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For the first class, we will be meeting on Friday, November 7th. Every subsequent we will meet on Thursday. All classes meet from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in Room A on the first floor of the Des Plaines Public Library. We will NOT be meeting on Thursday, November 27th.

In a Georgia Mill town during the 1930s, the deaf and mute John Singer becomes a confidant for various types of misfits, including an itinerant worker, a doctor, a widowed café owner, and a young girl. Each yearns for escape from small town life, while the young girl, Mick Kelly, the book's heroine, finds solace in her music.

Copies of these books are available at the Readers Services desk on the 3rd floor of the library. Registration required. The book club will meet in the the Commons on the third floor of the Des Plaines Public Library @ 10:00am on November 11th.
