Huge thanks to UNIP (University of Nottingham Innovation Park) for providing venue space for our March event!
What is DiNG?
Design and Innovation Nottingham is :
- a regular, in person meetup for people interested in the design and development of products and services
- an evening of practical talks and discussions about design, research and innovation
- an informal and inclusive space to learn and discuss
- a free event with free food!
The aim of DiNG is to provide an opportunity for people who share our curiosity for design and innovation to meet and share knowledge and experiences. Our hope is that people will have an enjoyable time learning and supporting each other and leave with at least one practical idea they can apply to their work.
Who is it for?
Anyone interested in design and innovation is welcome, from user researchers, UX designers and product managers to startups and entrepreneurs.

The evening will run something like this:
6.30 - sign in and enjoy a free drink

Speakers and talks
We're excited to be joined by two excellent speakers:
Matt Langford: Designing the Right Product vs Designing the Product Right -Understanding users in MedTech to create products they really want! Matt is a product designer and runs People Planet Product - a (physical) product development consultancy, specialising in user-centred and sustainability-focused design for early-stage hardware innovators. He has worked across both consumer and medical product sectors and has experience engaging with users and using these insights to guide subsequent product development activities. He has seen first-hand the value of applying a user-centred design approach, and the risks that result when users are not placed at the centre of product development. Matt's talk will explore the question "How do we ensure we’re building medical products that users truly need - rather than just executing a well-engineered plan?" While the technical development process for MedTech products is well-defined, understanding what users actually want is often overlooked.
In this talk, Matt will share his experiences as a Product Designer working closely with users throughout the development of physical medical devices. He’ll explore how user-centred techniques - often seen in consumer and software product design - can be applied to MedTech to bridge this gap. He’ll cover:
- The key steps in the MedTech development process
- Practical strategies for translating early user insights into actionable design inputs
- Common pitfalls - why teams often focus too much on designing the product right before ensuring it’s the right product
Princess Woy is a PhD Researcher, Service Designer and Tabletop Game Designer - more info about Princess and her talk will appear here soon.
