What we’re about
Thank you for visiting the Durham Walking Group, however the group is currently CLOSED to new members. Due to the success of the group we are currently not accepting any new member requests, as we have now reached our ‘target membership’. We will review our membership quarterly, so please check back with us from time to time, as places may become available.
We're a friendly group of walkers who love to explore the countryside around Durham and the surrounding counties. We always demonstrate respect and care for each other. Most of our walks will be at a moderate pace and range from 5 to 10 miles, and last 3 to 6 hours including breaks and lunch.
An annual fee of £5.00 payable by PayPal is required by each applicant before being accepted into the group. This covers the “Meetup” annual group subscription fee and group admin costs. The "Meetup" Paypal link for the payment can be found
You can also use the Paypal "Scan, Pay, Go" £5.00 QR Code found
Payment can also be made directly using PayPal or by BACS, many members prefer this methods, as the Meetup PayPal link is pretty tricky to find.

You will need good hiking boots and socks, waterproofs, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sun cream, walking poles (if required), a packed lunch (for longer walks) and plenty of water. We walk all year round so remember to dress appropriately for the weather.
Please ensure you have a profile picture so we can recognise you on the walk. This should be a recent photo of yourself that includes your face and does not include any other people - adults or children.
If you are a member of another group your photo should be brought across automatically, remember you can have a different picture in each group you join, by updating your profile pic within the group.
If you put yourself down for a walk, please remember to change your RSVP if you are unable to attend, to give other people a chance. Repeated 'no shows' without giving any notice WILL BE removed from the group.
Occasionally well behaved dogs are allowed on our walks, this will be clearly stated in the event description. Our dog policy can be found and read here.
Our walk leaders are volunteers without formal qualifications and we don't have insurance. You walk with the group at your own risk and agree to our terms and conditions found here
You are responsible for your own safety at all times. We ask that you respect the event host, and other members, and remain mindful of the safety of others and always stay with the group.
You can find some answers to frequently asked questions here
We look forward to meeting you.
