What we’re about
This is a group for hiking all around El Dorado county. Both locals and non-locals welcome. Varied days/times, varied lengths and difficulties -- from casual walks to mountains. Varied locations too, but usually on the western slope. Hikes are usually posted a few days to a week before they happen. Pick the events that work for your schedule/interest.
The hikes are free, with free parking as well, except when otherwise noted.
Rules:
- No dogs allowed now. Unfortunately, although the dogs were nice, their owners created too many liability issues by refusing to follow the law and risking the safety of people, dogs and wildlife in and out of the group.
- If you can't make it, change your RSVP -- even if you don't know until 1 minute before the meetup start time, change your RSVP at that time so that we don't wait around for you.
- If there are people RSVPed who haven't arrived yet, we'll generally wait 5 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the circumstances).
- If there's a wait list for a meetup, people with a history of no shows will be removed to make room for those more likely to attend. When there's a wait list, please try to update your RSVP at least a day in advance if you can't make it.

This is a very steep ~2 miles that'll feel like 7. Be sure you're not prone to slipping, have good traction on your shoes, know your personal limits well and are willing to turn around on your own if you come to a spot where you're not sure you're safe descending. There are spots where you have to raise or lower yourself around a tree or rock with your arms. Challenging but beautiful area with immense granite walls, small caves, sinkholes, and Cosumnes River access.
No parking lot. There's a paved shoulder right at the trail head where you may see a few vehicles, and a couple of dirt shoulders on the other side of the road that are probably the best place -- room for lots of cars but split across several places on both sides of the road. To spot the trail, look for the curve and all the bumper stickers on the barrier -- or if using google maps just enter "cosumnes river gorge parking" and it'll take you right to it. Don't trust address numbers because there are no buildings nearby. We'll gather and wait at the start of the trail.
