What we’re about

Join us for a free movement class. Whether you're an athlete, a yoga enthusiast, or simply looking to improve your mobility and overall well-being, this class is designed for you! The class is based around my experience within the Ido Portal Method over the last ten years.

In this class, we’ll explore mobilizing the spine through the use of specific techniques(yoga, modern dance, strength work) as well as more open scenarios(games, partner work). These tools for the spine are effective at healing injuries as well as creating a spine that allows you to perform better at whatever it is you do.

Next we will move to a system of ground movement called locomotion. It's an adaptation of Capoeira and various other movement practices that involves various low gate positions(squatting, crawling, rolling) as well as some acrobatic elements. Depending on the day we will do specific techniques(strength, joint preparation, mobility) to warm up and prepare the body. From there we will introduce some specific techniques as well as ideas/riddles that can be applied to create a system that flows from one piece to another. The goal is to move towards the ability to improvise within the system.

Some days we will do a little less locomotion work and work in some more technical handstanding practice as the ability to balance on the hands opens the possibility for many different movement patterns.

We will end with some form of somatic practice(breath work, meditation, etc...)

Expect a healthy amount of partner work as well as time for discussion of the practices of the day and why we are doing them. The classes are designed challenge the individual as well as create an environment for play and personal/community development.

No prior experience is required the work can be tailored to any body—just come with an open mind and a willingness to move!
