Our third Fall Backbone Trail hike in the Santa Monica Mountains will be a 17 mile, 2600 gain outing from the Backbone Trail at the Latigo Canyon Trailhead to the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead. The BBT will take us through Newton, Zuma, Trancas and Encinal Canyons then the Etz Meloy Roadway on the way to Mishe Mokwa. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.
This is a Sierra Club hike, so participants must sign in, carry their medical form, and hike between the leader and sweep. The Sierra Club medical form is available at ttps://tinyurl.com/ycy985mt. We ask you to print it out and carry it with you, but the form will be available at the trailhead as well.
TRAILHEAD LOCATION: We will meet at 7:30 AM at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead. From PCH go north 7 miles on Yerba Buena Road to the Mishe Mokwa trailhead parking area on the right, one mile east of Circle X Ranch.
CAR SHUTTLE: From the meeting point at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead we will car shuttle 13 miles via Little Sycamore Canyon, Decker, Encinal Canyon, Mulholland, and Latigo Canyon Roads to the Backbone Trail at Latigo Canyon Trailhead.
In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test.
