Victoria Friends

Welcome to Victoria Friends

Our goal is to make new and lasting friendships and to provide, and attend, social events in the Victoria area. We welcome adults of all ages. We are not only the largest social group on Vancouver Island, we are also the most active!

We do a wide variety of social events from dancing, dining out, walks, hikes, pub nights, bowling, coffee, movies, potlucks, pool nights, karaoke, picnics, and anything else our members dream up.

Several people have told us that they have made many new and lasting friendships through this group. Others have told us that it is just a fun group to join when they were new in town and looking to meet new people. It’s also a place where people enjoy common interests together and feel comfortable and welcomed.

Hitting the “Join Us!” button and creating a profile is the only way to get into our site. Take a moment to find a photo of yourself that you like, as it is required when creating your profile. Once your profile is approved, you will be able to login to our site. At that point, you will be able see all of our events. Click on the Calendar, as it is a quick way to get an overview of what is happening every day then click on any event to see the details.

You will have to become a member BEFORE signing up for, or attending any of our events. To do this, simply pay the $15 annual membership fee by pressing the “Pay on-line” on the left hand side of most pages on our site (eg: your Profile page). Paying on-line is easy with any major credit card.

Scroll down to see some of the events that we have coming up right now.

We look forward to meeting you in person soon!

Victoria New In Town Meetup

Victoria, BC

Victoria New In Town Meetup

Are you someone brand new to Victoria or have just recently moved here in the last year or two and are trying to meet new people with similar interests? This is the group for you! Get to meet other new Victorians, discover new places and things to do in this city and region, and make new connections!  No matter your age group, from 18 to 85, as long as you're a recent Victoria resident, this group is for you!

We'll organize a lot of events and gatherings down the road, and we'll let members organize their own events as well. Some suggested events for this spring and summer include:

• Pub Nights: we'll pick a neighbourhood pub in Victoria and meet up as a group to say hi and socialize!

• Sightseeing tours to discover some of Victoria's amazing heritage and sights. Been to Craigdarroch Castle? Cattle Point? Strolled the flower garden at Government House? Walked the Gorge Trail? Let's do it as a group!

• Afternoon BBQs during the Summer - members agree to host 2-8 other members, BYOM (bring your own meat!).

• Movie Nights: members host others for a night enjoying a movie and popcorn on your home's big screen! (or in the case of one member, a giant outdoor screen!)

• Social Sporting Events - how's your mini putt golf game? What about go karts? Play any beach volleyball? We'll get some events together!

• Plays and Theatre - meet as a group for a theater or play event, and as a group, we can get access to cheaper tickets and better seating choices!

• Pot Luck Dinners: members of the group can volunteer to host dinners for other members, from 2 to 10 people, or more if you can handle it!

This is a revival of a group that was created a few months ago, but had been let to expire by the previous organizer.

Japan Victoria Friends Meetup Group

Victoria, BC

Japan Victoria Friends Meetup Group
Do you have an interest in Japan, its culture, language, or food? Are you Japanese and looking for a safe and friendly environment to make Canadian and international friends and practice your English? Or are you an avid traveler looking for exotic new places to visit? The Japan Victoria Friends Meetup Group is a social group that promotes intercultural exchange while having fun. Our members are from all over the world, and many have some kind of connection to Japan. We have regular conversation meetups weekly, where we chat and practice our language fluency, and we also do a few social gatherings each month too. All are welcome! Come hang out with us and learn about a different culture! We ask that all new members use their real name (or the name they wish to be known as in the group) and also use a picture that shows who they are. This is to make sure that Group Leaders can know who will be participating in the events and make sure that everyone has a good time. All of our events are staged locally in Victoria and the surrounding area, so at this time we only accept new members who live in the vicinity, or can regularly access the area. Please note that we don't allow aggressive or predatory behaviour in our group. This is a place to make friends and new connections, and not to try to find a date (there are other social groups for that). If you feel like you are the target of any unwanted behaviour, please tell one of the Group Leaders immediately. We are here to keep the group safe and fun for everyone. Lastly, the group stays successful and active thanks to the generous support of its members through donations. If you're planning to attend our events, please bring $1-2 to help the group pay its administration costs. Thank you. :-)

Meet a Stranger - One-hour conversations

Victoria, BC

Meet a Stranger - One-hour conversations
Ever wanted to chat with a stranger, but didn’t know if they’d be **open to communication**? You’re not alone! A Social Project recently conducted in Victoria (The Fifty First Dates Project) has shed light on the **growing desire for real connection between strangers**.   We took matters into our own hands, deciding to start a monthly gathering where **strangers can connect with each other**. The “Meet A Stranger” events happen in public, during daylight.  Strangers are paired at random, and the two have up to one hour to get to know each other, and **view life from a someone else’s perspective**.  The free gathering is open to any **adult** who wishes to participate in a shared human experience. In addition to **building a sense of community**, the monthly gatherings also aim to help **soften the edges of judgement, and find common ground beyond social labels**.  This **platonic** meeting is a chance to get to know a complete stranger – if only for one hour.   **All are welcome**. Follow us on instagram @project.meet.a.stranger Read this article to know a bit more about the Meet a Stranger project: https://www.vicnews.com/local-news/50-first-dates-project-spawns-monthly-meet-a-stranger-events-in-victoria-7456408 For more information on how this project began, check out https://aroundthecampfire.ca/meet-a-stranger-project Both Carrie and Jacinthe are delighted to announce that as of July 25, 2024, their "Meet A Stranger" Initiative is now officially sponsored by the City of Victoria and the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association.
