The Friend Group

Newcastle Upon Tyne, 41

The Friend Group
Welcome to The Friend Group Meetup! Our group is all about making new friends from all over the world and enjoying weekend, weekday, and evening adventures together. Whether you're a hobbyist, want to learn golf, play a friendly basketball match in the park, or just enjoy bowling, this is the perfect group for you. Join for weekend fun, activities, games nights and more. Let's connect, explore, and make lasting friendships in a fun and welcoming environment! **FAQs** * **What is The Friend Group?** A casual social club we’ve started because we believe there are people out there—like us—who might have moved to a new city or just have a smaller social circle and want to meet new people. We’re all about creating fun, laid-back space where you can connect with others without the pressure of networking events or large groups. * **Why are the group hangouts small?** There are already some great, well-established groups in Newcastle, like [Come Together Newcastle](https://www.meetup.com/come-together-newcastle/?eventOrigin=event_home_page), that already do an amazing job of bringing larger groups together for all kinds of events. The Friend Group is just another option—something for people who might not find it easy to come out of their shell in bigger settings. By keeping our groups small, we make it easier for everyone to get to know each other and feel comfortable. We also want hangouts to intentionally be a shared experience, so keeping things small the best format for that. * **Why does the first event cost £40?** The £40 fee for our first event covers everything: £36 goes directly to the event itself ([Gimme All You Got Package](https://booking.lane7.com/newcastle-booking/#activitiesbox)), and £4 helps with props and meetup page contributions. Any extras from the event goes towards keeping our Meetup page up and running. * **Why Do You Want The Group to Be Self-Sustaining?** Good question! While I’ve covered the initial costs for 6 months to get the group going, it’s really important that The Friend Group can support itself in the long run. If just one person keeps covering the costs and then can’t anymore, the whole group would have to close, which would be a bummer for everyone. ***The idea here is simple: if you enjoy the hangouts and get something out of the group, you chip in a little to help keep it going. If you’re not attending hangouts, no worries—you don’t have to pay.*** This way, the group stays flexible and fair for everyone, and we can keep bringing people together. * **How Are Future Hangouts Planned and Budgeted?** This first event is a bit of a test to see if people like the idea of smaller, more shared experience type activities. If it works, great! If not, we’ll tweak things based on what you all think. We’re planning to do test variety of events to fit different interests and budgets - friendly basketball games in the park, art classes, potlucks, etc. That way, you can pick and choose what works best for you. * **Is the Group Free to Join?** Yes, it’s totally free to join The Friend Group! Once you’re in, you can decide which events to attend based on what you like, your budget, and your schedule. There’s no pressure to come to every hangout—just join in when it feels right for you. * **Can I Get Involved with Organizing?** Absolutely! We’re just getting started, and we’d love to have more people involved. Whether you want to help plan events, manage finances, or just lend a hand, please let me know. The more people pitching in, the better this group will be. But i'm mindful that this is a new group so please feel no pressure. * **How Will Financial Transparency Be Handled?** Meetup has a pretty cool feature where we can track all the transactions and expenses. We’ll also keep receipts for anything we spend, so it’s all transparent and easy to see. This way, everyone knows exactly where the money’s going, and those who contribute can feel confident that it’s all being handled openly and fairly.

Therefore the following will now apply:** 1. **A Deposit will always be needed for restaurant and certain event bookings - see the event page for details.** 2. **Deposits will be paid within 48 hours of joining the booking or members may be moved to " Not Going " if there is a wait list** 3. **Deposits will NOT BE REFUNDED if the your place on the event can not be filled.** 4. **Please take this into account when deciding the right time to join the booking and pay the deposit.** 5. **Annual Membership Fees: This will be £10 per annum and will be due on 1st January of each year payable pro rata after one month of joining the group.** **We will continue to remove those who have not, either viewed the group page or attended any events for over 6 months, on the basis that they do not intend to join an event. Social & Singles Meet Up 30+

Newcastle Upon Tyne, 41

Social & Singles Meet Up 30+
This is a social group for people 30+ And I’ve combined this with my singles group. Everyone is welcome if they think it's the group for them Most events are held in and around Newcastle but anyone in surrounding areas is welcome to join and anyone is welcome to host events in another area. We also have had events in Durham and Sunderland. There are always new people at every event and so you won't be the only new one and if you're apprehensive, just look out for the host or post a message on the comments section of the event when you will be arriving and we'll look out for you. This is a private group so only other members are allowed to see your profile and you may restrict certain information being shown. • Meet new people • Make new friends -Relationships • Widen your social circle • Most events are free unless otherwise mentioned. I know times are tough financially and I’ve removed membership fees Three reasons why a membership fee is charged: 1) You know that all members are actively part of this group so you're more likely to see them at our events. 2) A sense of community as members contribute both financially and with their time to organise events. 3) Meetup fees which it costs to use the Meetup.com platform.  I am not going to pick up the cost of running this group myself If you have any ideas for events anywhere in Sunderland, North/South Tyneside or Durham or anywhere in between, whether it's meals, drinks, walking, hiking, shows or if there is something that you want to do but don't want to do it alone, please message me and if you would like to host them yourself, you can become an event organizer. Please be aware that all members are required to have a clear, recognisable photograph of themselves on their profile. This is to ensure the safety and comfort of our members and to allow everyone to recognise group members when attending events. It is also not permitted to message other members that you have not met in person first or with inappropriate messages. Failure to comply may lead to your removal from the group.  Please note: If you RSVP for an event but cannot make it, please let us know. If you fail to let us know and don’t change your RSVP then you are likely to be removed from the group.

From time to time, we may offer some **cocktail** events and **parties** to bring everyone together, as well 🍸🍷🥳. Our **Adventures in Art** 🖼️ events centre around not just visiting museums and galleries, but also **trying out new creative skills** such as life drawing and pottery painting. There are other cultural activities to try out too, such as **theatre trips** and **live music events**. For those who enjoy cross-stitch, crochet or knitting with a side of chitchat, come and join our **Stitch and B\*tch**🪡🧵😉 … We host **two book clubs** \- one for fiction and one for non\-fiction \- take your pick or try both\! We also offer **film club** events from time to time, which skew towards foreign, cult and indie movies. It’s great if you want to engage in thought provoking discussion! 📚🎬 Sometimes we attend **talks and lectures** too, on various subjects: science, history, psychology, classics and more! It’s a great opportunity to learn something new and explore ideas together 🤓. Our events are primarily based in **Newcastle** and the surrounding areas, but sometimes we’ll venture a little further afield for day trips and some special adventures! If you’re interested in helping out with hosting in **Durham**, **Sunderland** or **Northumberland**, let us know as we’d love to branch out to offer events for young people there as well. If you have any ideas for new events, too, we are certainly open to suggestions ☺️. We do ask that members use their **first name** rather than an initial on their profile, and recommend using a **recognisable photo** of themselves. We are all here to meet with new people face to face! Clarity about who you are when you show up helps both the organisers and the members 😊. The group is fuelled on the values of **friendliness, kindness and mutual respect**. We are all adults, so let’s act like it 😉! **Bigotry, harassment and abusive behaviour won’t be tolerated**. We aim to foster a pro-social environment, so try to be considerate of your fellow members. **Now let’s have some fun** 🤩!
