The Friends of DalesBus Walking Group

West Yorkshire, gb

The Friends of DalesBus Walking Group

“DalesBus Ramblers” are a sub-group of “Friends of DalesBus” who are dedicated to supporting public transport access within and to/from the Yorkshire Dales. Guided walks are often linear and involve the use of a bus or train. This puts bums on seats and helps to safeguard the future of fragile rural transport services. By taking part in a guided walk you are helping to preserve these services. You don’t have to be a member of the group, but memberships are welcomed and give you some fringe benefits such as being able to obtain a Dales Railcard even if you live outside the normal eligibility area.

If you normally use your car, then you need to make sure you are parked in a suitable place to access the public transport mentioned in the program. If you are not used to this, it may seem a little confusing at first, so please contact the walk leader for advice if you are unsure. For example, a walk from Buckden to Ribblehead  may involve parking in Skipton or Leeds, catching the bus to Buckden then the train back from Ribblehead.

There are huge chains of interconnecting bus services available to get to the walks. For example from Manchester and Burnley to Skipton for a Grassington service, or from Bradford to Keighley to Skipton to Malham.  Bus service details in the dales are available on www.dalesbus.org or contact the walk leader if you are not sure how to access a walk.

Please note:

All walks, times and distances are approximate and are subject to revision as circumstances dictate. The walk will start after the bus arrives, and is timed to end in time for a return service. If there is service disruption, then this will disrupt the walk. Please accept the pace set by the walk leader, as it is designed to meet a return bus or train service. Participants going in front of the walk leader or behind the back marker may be deemed to have left the walk. Please contact the walk leader if you want further advice.

Please visit our website on www.friendsofdalesbus.org.uk for more up to date details of additional walks and any late changes to this walks program.

Whilst every care will be taken, and all walks are risk-assessed, all participants on a DalesBus Ramble are responsible for their own safety. Leaders retain the right to refuse to allow walkers with inadequate clothing or footwear to join walks, and regrettably, dogs other than registered assistance animals are not allowed on our walks.

Using the Bus or Train (details correct May 2019 and subject to change):

English concessionary bus passes are valid on most bus routes except 822, 825, 830, 831, and 881 services. Dales Freedom Rover tickets are available from the driver at £10 for the day or a Dales Privilege Rover at £8 on production of a railcard of any type ( e.g. Senior Railcard, Dales Railcard, Young Persons Railcard etc.), ENCTS elderly or disabled pass-holders or students with NUS or Metro Student Photocard.

Dales Railcards offering 1/3 discount  on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle and Leeds-Lancaster/Morecambe routes plus special offers at certain times of the year are available for Friends of DalesBus members to purchase.

Friends of DalesBus Membership:

Costs just £11 per year (£16.50 for couples/families). Any excess finances are ploughed back into running bus services. To join, please visit our website or send your cheque payable to “Friends of DalesBus” plus your name, address, and email address (optional) to: FoDB Membership Secretary, 8 Moorfields, Bramley, Leeds LS13 3JZ. www.friendsofdalesbus.org.uk

Walk classifications:

Easy: Suitable for all, a short and generally level stroll.

Moderate: A longer walk with uphill and downhill sections.

Strenuous: An extended walk with more uphill climbs and over rougher ground.

Additional information may be included with the walk details. For example “uses pathless open access land” gives an indication that the going is likely to be tougher than normal. Please contact the walk leader for additional information.

Whatever you enjoy, put a meet on! This is solely a social group so no advertising or money to be made from meets. To become a host, come to at least one meet and let the organiser know you'd like to be a host and we'll sort that out. 🫶🏻 **Is it your first time meeting us and you haven't met new people in a while?** Feel free to message the event host so you know at least one person. Or a first step could be to pop your head in, have a look at us and say hi if you feel comfortable and if not, join us at the next meet. 🫶🏾 **Origins** The group was founded in 2023 to bring young women together as there were no groups like this in Halifax. Founded by women who wanted to take action to overcome loneliness and to feel more supported and connected in their local area, they weren't waiting for someone else to do this for them! 🫶🏼 **Allies** Thank you for supporting the group by sharing our details with friends and family and for being an advocate for young women's mental health. If you are looking for a group to join, below may be useful links. As a group we have no financial gain or connection to them. Friends social group

Friends social group
Welcome to our friendly group for people 50 or over who are looking to make new friends. We are based in Leeds and have members from all over Yorkshire. Our objective is to bring together people who are looking to broaden their circle of friends and socialise a bit more. We organise a wide variety of events, so there's always something for everyone or ask if you have some ideas. Don't suffer from loneliness at home when you can join us and have fun! If you’d like to try us out before paying the £5 annual membership fee, you are very welcome to attend one of our coffee mornings free of charge. **Please be courteous to others!** We understand that things can and do happen at the last minute so if you’re going to be late or unable to attend, please amend your RSVP as soon as possible to let your host know and / or allow someone on the waiting list to go instead. We don’t tolerate no shows and will remove members who don’t make their apologies more than once. If you’re feeling unwell, please don’t show up and pass along your germs to others! We are a social group and not a vehicle for advertising your products or business. Memberships are cancelled if you contravene these rules or have not attended any event for six months. To join, please **make sure your profile photo is a clear, recent, face-only without sunglasses (just like a passport photo)**. This helps our hosts easily identify you at events. As there are multiple people who go by a common first name only, **we need to be able to distinguish you from others**. So, we ask for something that uniquely identifies you such as a surname. For the same reason, the initial won’t be sufficient but a throw in another letter (which doesn’t have to be the second one) or a number and we’d be happy! For example, please don't name yourself "Paul", or "Paul G", but “Paul Grant”, "Paul G24" or "Paul G - York". The cost of 2024’s annual membership is £5, payable to your host at your first event of the year. Please note that we may not be able to action Requests to Join immediately as we fit in our volunteering for this group amongst other commitments (full time work as an example!). Thank you for considering joining our group. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Greater Social Life Union of Bradford

Bradford, 45

Greater Social Life Union of Bradford

The Thumoslang Network is an association of groups whose members use Thumoslang, the nomenclature for social clarity, as their basic strategy for greater social life. Part of the network is the Greater Social Life Union (GSLU). Its mission is long-lasting joy for its members through faster actualization of their personal ideals.

There are many steps on your journey to greater social life. Here are the first steps for members of GSLU. After reading the rest of this introduction, you should read the 2021 book The Guide to Thumoslang. Many of our members put this new knowledge into practice as suggested by The GSLU Handbook.

When you spend more time in damage control mode and less time benefiting from your various relations, you waste a great deal of effort in your social life. Such a cost of opportunity keeps you from going at high speed towards your ideals, in creating your ideal self, and in actualizing what you truly want to become. This is likely due to a lack of social clarity, which is essential for internal conversations and vital for meaningful relationships.

Unintentionally created in 2017, accidentally discovered in 2018, and first taught in 2019, Thumoslang is the nomenclature for social clarity. It is used as a language for faster communication, be it in complex collaboration or difficult conversation. The first widespread use of social clarity has been predicted by Thumoslang pioneers to be just as important as the first widespread control of fire. All is explained by The Guide to Thumoslang, which is backed by The Dictionary of Thumoslang.

Again, the Thumoslang Network is an association of groups whose members use Thumoslang, the nomenclature for social clarity, as their basic strategy for greater social life. Part of the network is the Greater Social Life Union (GSLU). Its mission is long-lasting joy for its members through faster actualization of their personal ideals.

Your ideals are the same as your ideal self, which means what you truly want to become. "Everything else is secondary," said Steve Jobs. Our group activities involve you with the first practical steps in the further development of your ideals, in keeping others from interfering with your life, and in building a group of in-person friends who keep on encouraging you and nurturing your ideals. To be sure, if you lack social clarity in your internal conversations, face unwanted drama too often, are not sure of your social life or your path into the future, or have no friends and no groups available on a regular basis to help create your ideal self, this group is for you.

*** MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS ***

Our group activities bring you the following benefits:

Benefit 1 - Mastery of Relationships

As new GSLU members participate in the union's activities, they will quickly find themselves having noticeable enhancements in their social lives. The further they participate in GSLU activities, the faster they naturally acquire the mastery of relationships.

Benefit 2 - Best Friends for Your Ideals

Our group activities include practical steps in building a group of in-person friends who keep on encouraging you and nurturing your ideals.

Benefit 3 - Internal Dialogues More Effective

Thumoslang is a set of terminology whose use is intended to benefit one's clarity in social situations. Consequently, Thumoslang allows you to have clearer communication with yourself in your mind.

Benefit 4 - Meaningful Relationships Much Stronger

Our members use Thumoslang to mend or strengthen their existing relationships, build new relations, and achieve greater social life.

Benefit 5 - Faster Actualization of Your Ideals

The actualization of your ideals goes faster when it regularly involves your best group, which is the small group of in-person, second-mind friends who are the best for the nurturing of your ideals. Our activities help you speed up the actualization of your ideals by reducing social roadblocks and increasing social shortcuts in your life.
