Peterborough Friends
Welcome to Peterborough Friends. We have been getting people off their sofas and out of the house since 2015. Firstly, we are not a singles, dating website, we are a social group.  We welcome friends from anywhere of any age, whether you are single, in a relationship or married. We eat out, drink, laugh, walk, dance, party, go to the theatre and even go on holidays. The group has events to suit anyone of any age. If you are fed up of staying in, wasting your time on dating websites and social media or just lonely then please give the group a try.  Scroll through our calendar and see the many varied events planned for this year. If you are interested in an event then please sign up to it so that myself and the other members can look out for you. Can I please ask that you bring cash when attending meals out as it makes it easier to pay the bill and means that the waitress does not have several small card payments for one booking. All meals will require a £5 deposit. This is to secure your place. If you cannot attend for a genuine reason I will transfer the deposit to another event, however if you cancel on the day of the event this will not be refunded. In the event of a meal being cancelled the deposits will be refunded. If I have asked for your deposit and you have not sent it I will move your name on to the waiting list until it has been received. If you RSVP for a theatre trip please send the full payment to me straight away as I have to book tickets for these events promptly so that we can all sit together. Lifts and travel can be shared so please don't be afraid to ask. Just post a comment on the event to see if anyone can help. Please do not contact people directly for lifts unless you have made friends with them. If you are free during the day we meet on Mondays at 11am and Thursdays at 2pm at Central Park. We meet outside the Willow Cafe in the centre of the park. If the weather is bad we still meet for coffee. These are gentle walks but if you would rather just come for a chat and a coffee please arrive at 11.30 and I will meet you in the cafe. If you prefer a longer walk then please sign up for Mark's alternate Sunday and Wednesday evening walks. MEMBERSHIP You will need an up to date photo of yourself to join this group. This is so I can recognise you at events. You will be removed from the group if you refuse to do this. It is helpful if you add a surname as we are a large group and this will make it easier for me. You are welcome to try out the group for free but after two events the cost is £25 for the year, via bank transfer to M J James, Halifax 11-07-34 00228953 ref "sub" or you can pay cash at any event where I have a receipt book. This cost covers the website charges, some of my expenses and allows me to run the group on a full time basis. This amount is non-refundable. If you do not attend your first event for six months your membership will be cancelled unless the subscription payment is received. SPONSORSHIP We are sponsored by Vicky Langton who works with Travel Counsellors. Here are a few words from Vicky ... "I can help you with any of your travel arrangements, from a weekend away, your favourite place to visit, a new destination to explore or for the trip of a lifetime. I want to ensure that I can find your perfect holiday that is tailor-made to you. I will work around the hours you are available, to discuss and sort your travel arrangements. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email, I will be more than happy to help” Tel: 01507 462 581 / 07516 705441 Email: [vicky.langton@travelcounsellors.com](mailto:vicky.langton@travelcounsellors.com)” If you have any concerns or questions please contact me on 07712107646 or send me a message on Meet Up. If you have a complaint about anyone in the group please contact me privately.  Please do not post comments on events regarding any complaints or these will be removed immediately. Anyone who cannot behave in an appropriate manner at events will be removed. I hope you enjoy your time with Peterborough Friends.

Ely Friends

Ely, C3

Ely Friends

Ely Friends is for anyone who’s ever spent a night in on their own wishing they were out doing something more exciting, or for those who’ve sat in the pub looking at the group of friends, wishing they could join them.

We bring together people from the local area to make friends and have fun. We’ve regular events, including pub quizzes, board game nights, pub nights, breakfasts and trips to Boogie Nights in St Ives. In between there are cinema trips, meals out, book talks and walks.

We’re welcoming and friendly, and open to all ages. Male or female, single or married. If this sounds at all tempting please sign up - it’s free.

We simply expect:
1. A recent, clear photo (so event hosts can spot and welcome you)
2. Up to date RSVP’s (waiting for no-shows ruins an event for everyone else)
3. Understanding that hosts are volunteers (trust their experience, don't argue self motivated changes)
4. You pay your own way (we don’t charge for events, but don't leave unpaid drink/food tabs)
5. You make your own way (fine to ask members for lifts, but don't expect or demand)
6. No private messaging before you've met at an event (we’re not a dating site!)

We hope to see you soon!

Optionally, once you've been to a few events (i.e. you've met an event organiser or two and have a good feel for how the group works) please do consider:
- Suggesting events on our discussion boards to determine interest (it can't clash with an existing event or financially benefit yourself - charities are fine)
- Hosting an event (mention in your suggestion you'd be happy to do this) which we can help you with
- Becoming an event organiser (once you've hosted several events)

Peterborough Buddhist Community Meetup

Peterborough, C3

Peterborough Buddhist Community Meetup
Our friendly group meets in person on Tuesday evenings (except for the 2nd Tuesday of the month). We meet from 7-9pm in the upper room of The Quaker/Friends Meeting House, 21 Thorpe Road, Peterborough, PE3 6AB. **Please note that the doors close at 7pm for security reasons. As we are upstairs we are unable to look out for latecomers.** If you’d like to be included in our monthly newsletter with details of the Tuesday evenings then please email us at [peterboroughbuddhistgroup@gmail.com](mailto:peterboroughbuddhistgroup@gmail.com) with your email address and we'll add to our mailing list. We are a welcoming group of people, drawn together by our wish to explore Buddhism and meditate together. You do not need to consider yourself a Buddhist to join us - we are made up of people from all sorts of different cultures and backgrounds, and the group is relevant to anyone looking for personal growth and meaning. You do not need to have any experience of meditation to come along. Learning meditation is a life-long experience, so we all have to start somewhere! The evening is always structured so that new people will be given the support they need to join in. Our classes run on donations and we suggest £7 although you are free to donate whatever you want. However we’d rather you come along even if you aren’t able to make a donation. Options to donate; ·         Giving directly to the group (‘Triratna Peterborough’) via their Natwest account: sort code 55-50-42, account number 63151499 or ·         cash on the evenings we meet There is a Peterborough Team made up of the Order Member (OM) and mitras (friends of Triratna) who meet approximately monthly to discuss the finances of the group, safeguarding, planning group activities such as who is leading the evenings, organising of events etc. If you have any ideas or concerns that you’d like to share with the team or the safeguarding representative then just ask whoever is leading that evening and they will point you in the right direction.

Peterborough Walking Meetup

Peterborough, C3

Peterborough Walking Meetup
Welcome to the Peterborough Walking Meetup Group. We are a friendly and amiable group of individuals who enjoy walking in our beautiful countryside. Many people are discovering the benefits of walking, from improving their physical and mental health, building overall fitness and meeting new people. If this is you, why not consider joining our group?  Walks take place throughout the week depending on the availability of our walk organisers, but generally take place most Saturdays where we walk more locally. On other days walks can be further afield and for a longer duration and mileage, and involve more hills. Occasionally we venture further afield to the Peak District, Wales, the Malvern Hills, etc where the walks are more challenging.  We walk at an average pace of some 2.5 mph, which should be manageable by most. Nonetheless, members will need to have a reasonable level of fitness given the distances walked (usually in the region of 8-9 miles), and the type of terrain covered which can be uneven and often slightly hilly. Your walk organiser will advise if there are any special considerations you need to be aware of, such as steep hills. However, if you have any doubt regarding your fitness please speak to your GP.  We normally stop for a short break, so for any walk do bring a packed lunch, drinks, etc. Also, remember that it is important to stay hydrated, so do ensure you bring plenty of water to keep you going, particularly if the weather is warm.  We would like our group to be fun and friendly and welcoming to all. However it is important to set some ground rules to manage expectations and ensure common courtesy among members. **General rules of membership** Please follow the rules below for your own safety and the benefit of the group: •        Turn up on time so that the group is not kept waiting. We will leave punctually.  •        Check the Meetup website before leaving. We seldom cancel but sometimes unforeseen circumstances occur. •        Please change you RSVP if you can no longer attend an event. •        Ensure you have suitable footwear and clothing. •        Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of the group when walking on roads and crossing railways lines, etc. •        Make sure you are fit enough for any walk you are attending. If in doubt, seek medical advice. •        Sorry, but dogs are not allowed on our walks. We may modify these rules from time to time to ensure the continued enjoyment and safety of all members.

In Touch Peterborough

Peterborough, C3

In Touch Peterborough
We are a social and activities based group for Peterborough and the surrounding area. We are the oldest established group in the area with one of the most active memberships. 'Diversity' is my aim for In Touch in both activities and membership as I think this creates a more stimulating group. I try to maintain this by controlling entry to the group. Our diverse range of regular monthly events include: New members night, Coffee mornings, Badminton, Games afternoons, Ten-Pin Bowling, Cycle Rides, Leisure & social walks, Meals out (World Cuisine, Chinese, Curry Night, Fine Dining), Live Music Events, Pub quizzes, Pub Meetups, Cinema Nights, Rounders and Comedy nights.  As the group has grown we are now creating a range of our own unique events including 'Geo Cache Trail' and 'The Aliens have Landed'. We have also organised the bigger more difficult events other groups don't. Our extensive list of bigger events include: Theatre trips, Rounders, Archery, Quad Biking, White Water Rafting, Scalextrics Racing, Theme Park Visits, Escape Rooms, Hovercraft Driving, Shooting events (Clay Pigeon & Pistols/Riffles), It's-A-Knockout, 5K Inflatable Challenge and Karting. Previously we have arranged Day trips, Weekend breaks and holidays and are always looking for new things to try. **ORANISATIONAL SETUP** This group is an organiser based group with experienced event planners taking the lead in organising events. We have sound financial control and a group kitty as a limited insurance for our events. This hopefully gives people more confidence with our events and a more professional feel to the group. **GROUP HISTORY** The group was founded in Jan-2012 by Janet Wilkinson. Lotte Kolind ran the group from Nov-2012 until July-2013. Jonathan Rippon has run the group since June-2013. **COST** In Touch is completely free to members. From August 2024 I now take a small contribution from some paid events to help towards the meetup subscription fee which is currently £340 per year. You may also make a purely voluntary donation to the group if you wish. **CODE OF CONDUCT / BEHAVIOUR** I expect everybody to treat others with respect. I will remove any member showing inappropriate or antisocial behaviour. The group is also private, which means non-members cannot see who is a member. **AGE RANGE** Anyone over the age of 18 can apply to join. I try to maintain a diverse age range within the group. We currently have people in their late 20's through to people in their 50's. We have events to suits younger people as well as older people. We have host's in their 30's, 40's & 50's. **CULTURAL DIVERSITY** The group welcomes everybody on an equal basis and enjoys the diversity of having many people in the group who are not native to Peterborough / England. We have people from Portugal, Poland, India, China, Peru, Spain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and America within the group. **MARITAL STATUS** THIS IS NOT A SINGLES OR DATING GROUP. This group's prime aim is to organise fun activities for people to enjoy and to enable people to socialise together. Most of our members tend to be single but we also have many couples within the group too. My main aim is to create a community of people who support each other! **JOINING THE GROUP** Anybody who complies with the above can apply to join the group but be aware that I do limit entry to try to maintain the diversity of the group. This can mean that you are held on the pending list for a period of time, depending on who else is applying to join at that time. **ATTENDANCE** We recommend that you try to come along within the first 6 weeks of joining. If you are nervous for whatever reason, contact me or another one of our event hosts and we'll help you take that first step. Be aware that I actively manage our members list and do remove inactive members. This is to keep our membership count real. You will be able to apply re-join. **PREREQUISITES** We do require all members to have a portrait style photo of themselves for identification purposes. If you submit a photo or picture of anything/anyone else but yourself, your request to join will be declined. This is important for the hosts as they need to know who is coming to the events. It also increases the trust and security within the group. **CONTRIBUTING TO THE GROUP** We have a dedicated group of organisers within In Touch but are always looking to encourage new organisers/hosts to join the leadership team. If you've been in the group for 5 months or more and would like to organise or host an event then please contact me. I'll help you plan your first few events to build your confidence. The involvement of members helps the group continue to grow and offer a large range of events to suit all. Looking forward to meeting you all. St. Ives: Speaking, Leadership & Confidence

Holywell, C3

St. Ives: Speaking, Leadership & Confidence
We are a friendly club, helping people from many walks of life to enhance their public speaking skills. The club is part of Toastmasters International, a not for profit organisation dedicated to supporting people to improve their confidence and encourage personal growth. The education programme is a continuous programme of self improvement, allowing you to plan what you’d like to work on and get the most from your membership - it is extremely effective, but more importantly, we have great fun! Our meetings include prepared speeches and members provide feedback on how to improve. An impromptu speaking session tests your ability to come up with a short speech in the spot! We run our meetings in a warm and friendly environment and take a very professional approach to running our meetings, providing variety and opportunity for all to improve. We generally have between 12 and 20 people at our meetings - we use MeetUp for advertising and we have our own [website](https://www.huntingdonshirespeakers.co.uk) for communication with our members, including meeting agendas where members can sign up for roles. We only use MeetUp for guests, hence we get fairly low numbers from MeetUp but good attendance on the night. There are five areas we can help with: 1. Public Speaking 2. Interpersonal Communication 3. Strategic Leadership 4. Management 5. Confidence You don't need to bring anything special with you - we love having guests at our meetings and finding out how we can benefit them. We have a relaxed dress code and the only thing that we ask is that people are supportive and respectful. In terms of refreshments, we hold our meetings in a Hotel and use their services. They have a well-stocked bar and a great menu. We take a break during our meeting to eat together and get to know each other better. Interested? Why not pop along as our guest for the evening and see what we can do to help you? It doesn't cost anything to come as a guest, and we're used to hosting several guests on any evening.
