Wilmslow Meets Manchester Socials

Wilmslow, C5

Wilmslow Meets Manchester Socials

It's said that a stranger is a friend that you haven't met yet  However, breaking the ice with strangers can be hard when your in a room full of them. What are you supposed to say, how will you remember all of their names & how will you know who the meeting organiser is?

The chances are that you've looked at and maybe joined a number of Meetup groups in your local area. Why join this one? Well, without getting all salesy about things, the success of this group over the last four years has been down to two things. Firstly, the open hearted nature of the members means that anyone who joins is immediately made to feel welcomed and appreciated.  We all know how hard it can be to step out of your comfort zone and show up at an event where you no absolutely no one in the room.   Secondly, the group has grown to the size it now is because we endeavour to keep things fresh by adding new types of events and locations so that it appeals to members with different tastes.

At this point you may well be wondering what type of people join this group and attend the events on offer?  The answer is people of all ages and from all backgrounds and cultures.  While the group started out as a singles group, the reality is that over the years it has attracted couples who are looking to expand their friendship network.  No restrictions are placed on age either.  However, members typically tend to be in their late thirties upwards.

So where do our Meetups take place?  The group was founded in Wilmslow with most events taking place within a 10 mile radius of the town.  However, members live across a much wider geography from the North of Manchester to the south of Cheshire.  Therefore, the intention is to offer Meetups in a wide range of locations. The primary locations will be Wilmslow, Cheadle Hulme and Didsbury.  However, look out out for events talking place in other locations in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire

In terms of the type of events that are organised. they range from larger "no attendee limits" evening Meetups at pubs with live music through to smaller weekend evening dinners and Sunday lunches.  For the more actively minded, country walks and ten pin bowling are also offered.

It's free to join this group.  However, depending on the venue, there may be a charge for attending.

If your new to the area or maybe just at a loose end & want to get out of the house & make some new friends this winter then why not join our group? Go on!

The Hale and Altrincham Women's Social Meetup Group

Altrincham, C5

The Hale and Altrincham Women's Social Meetup Group
This group is for women who are looking for new friendships living in the Altrincham, Hale and surrounding areas such as Bowdon, Timperley, Sale, Knutsford, Warrington etc. Generally our members are 50+ but young at heart. The group is about making new friends - our regular monthly meeting provides a chance for members to meet each other and we organise a variety of activities such as cinema trips, shopping, dinner, theatre nights, coffee and chats, or walks. Any member can 'champion' an activity or suggest a Meet Up and all ideas are welcomed. The emphasis is on local activities that are ideally free or accessible to all but if you've got an idea feel free to suggest it.  You can message the organisers and one of them will set up the event.  Please note that if none of the organisers wish to attend you may have to host the event yourself on the day. Now the boring stuff - We do charge a small fee of £5.00 per year to belong to our group which covers the costs of belonging to the Meet Up website and shows that you are committed to membership - but you are welcome to join for a while and see if you like us first. Please note that you must add a photo of yourself (not the cat!!) when applying to join. In order to keep our membership manageable if you do not attend a meetup event within 4 months of joining your membership will be cancelled. We also operate a three no shows and you are out rule as most other groups. We look forward to meeting you! Brenda (Organiser)

Origami Society in Macclesfield, Stockport, and Manchester

Macclesfield, C5

Origami Society in Macclesfield, Stockport, and Manchester
**Join us for a relaxing and creative time at our Origami Society in Macclesfield, Stockport, and Manchester!** Whether you’re a seasoned folder or a complete beginner, our welcoming community is the perfect place to unwind, chat, and make new friends. As a native Japanese speaker, I can also offer free Japanese conversation lessons during our origami sessions if you’re interested! Origami is not only a beautiful art form but also a great way to reduce stress, improve mental health, and promote relaxation. No previous experience is required, and we especially welcome those interested in the geometric shapes and patterns that can be created with origami. If you have a passion for science and math, you’ll find plenty to enjoy and explore. Studies show that origami also improves problem-solving skills and boosts concentration. **Venues:** The venues change depending on the availability but I pick a venue in Macclesfield, Stockport, or Manchester. I am looking for quiet, relaxing places with decent tables, so please comment on the group page or message me if you know of any good locations. **Why I Started This Group:** I moved to Macclesfield from Tokyo about a year ago and noticed that many social groups revolve around drinking and clubbing. Since I’m not into clubbing, I wanted to create a space where we can enjoy nice, relaxing conversations while engaging in activities like origami and expressing ourselves through art. This led me to start my own group for people who may feel the same and are looking for a more relaxed and inclusive community. Although I mentioned art, my background is in science, and I’m not a professional artist, but we can all be artists in our own ways! I also believe that origami is both a science and an art. In fact, I think crafting or creating something, like cooking, is a blend of science and art. Additionally, I started this group in September 2024, so it’s a very new group. This is also my first meetup group, so I would love to hear any suggestions you might have to make it even better! **Things You Need:** Origami paper will be provided, so you don’t need to bring anything. That’s the beauty of origami – you only need the paper to start! However, feel free to bring your own origami paper if you prefer. **How It Works:** I will find a table and try to be there at the meetup start time, but I will post an update on the event page if I’m going to be late. Please leave a comment if you can’t find the table. I will bring some origami books so you can start folding at your own pace by following the instructions. Feel free to ask me or other participants any questions. You can also bring your own instructions and work on them while seeking advice from others. If you’re unsure where to start, don’t worry – we can fold together in a classroom-style setting. There are many different patterns with varying levels of difficulty, so don’t worry if you have no previous experience. **Are You Going to Be Late or Leave Early?** No problem! It’s a very flexible session, so you can leave whenever you need to. If you’re going to arrive late, that’s not an issue at all, but it would be great if you could leave a comment on the event page or message me so I don’t forget to post any updates during the event. **Other Things to Note:** Since origami involves paper, the risk of paper cuts isn’t zero. Please fold the paper slowly and gently, at your own risk. I will choose venues that serve soft drinks and preferably also hot drinks, though they may serve alcoholic beverages as well. If you require special assistance to access the venues, please contact them directly. Come and be part of our Origami Society – where creativity meets relaxation. Happy folding, and see you soon!
