The Hardy Walkers

We meet most weeks on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday exploring the fantastic Wessex countryside, hence the name of the group. Saturday walks are around 6 miles, after which many of us like to go for a drink/lunch together. Longer walks (8-10 miles) are arranged for Wednesdays and Sundays, generally including a sandwich lunch stop. The name of our group reflects the historical connection between Thomas Hardy and his Wessex novels, but also that we meet throughout the year and in most weathers. (If any aspiring Hardy experts or historical enthusiasts can give us a brief run-down on significant places as we walk round, that is always welcome.) The group now operates an annual Membership system. An annual fee (currently £5, Jan to Dec) will be charged when a person attends their second walk. Dorset walking and social group

The main focus of the group is to meet up and walk in rural Dorset, sometimes further afield. We also have other types of event, such as cycling, social events, festivals and so on. Whether you would like to suggest and lead events, or simply join in with other like minded spirits, you're most welcome to join us. The group is open to everyone over the age of 17, singles and couples. We're sure you'll find that members are friendly and will make you feel most welcome. Our walks are usually between 8 and 12 miles, sometimes more. They are often over steep terrain or rough ground, so you need to be reasonably fit. 'Out of the Box' Dialogue Group

Formed in 2016, 'Out of the Box' is a welcoming dialogue group for people who subscribe to different worldviews. You can just turn up to our interesting and varied events. There's no formal membership or subscription fee although you can make a small donation to help cover our running costs if you would like to. Secret Camping Weekend is a new breed of laid back weekend getaway. We takeover private campsites across the UK and provide organised experiences and workshops during the day, with fun themed entertainment at night (even the odd party)!

At SCW HQ we wanted to redefine the way people enjoy camping. Our weekends have a vibe somewhere between traditional camping (but with loads more activities) and festivals (but with less intensity). The main objective of course is delivering old fashioned fun for everyone.

Our experiences include: group yoga, outdoor campfire cooking lessons, cocktail making classes, organised nature walks and photography workshops, trips to local beauty spots, an outdoor cinema, mountain bike hire, sea kayaking, street food market, sports day games, acoustic music sets and themed evening entertainment.

We wrap up our SCW package with some glamping upgrades, like luxury showers and toilets, an indoor bar area, fully furnished bell tent and yurt hire, VW camper vans and private hot tub hire.

Bournemouth Seafront Walking Group

The main focus of Bournemouth Seafront Walking Group is to hold a regular Friday Afternoon walk between various points on the seafront from 2pm to 4pm. Other events for walks on other days or locations, meals out or drinks may be organised infrequently. We welcome singles or couples in no fixed age range but most members are in their 50s, 60s and upwards. Dogs can be brought along and can be let off the lead but they obviously must be kept under control and be non-aggressive. You are not expected to be a hiker, rambler or speed walker. Each walk is approximately 45 mins 2.2 miles each way with a stop for a drink at the midway point or on the return. So you simply need to be be fit enough to walk and talk for 45 mins before resting to do the same on the return. We normally start at a point which has free parking nearby or is close to bus routes. We are mostly fair weather walkers, so if it’s raining and we are likely to get wet the walks may be cancelled in favour of meeting in a Pub or Cafe for a drink and chat instead. There is a limit of 15 members on most walks so some may miss out if a member booked on a walk doesn’t show or cancels with less than 24 hours notice. Unfortunately membership will be cancelled if a member doesn’t show on 2 occasions or fails to give sufficient notice on 3 occasions. Membership is £5 payable on joining for the rest of the calendar year.

Bournemouth and Poole Fun Fit For Life Club The purpose of this Meetup is to connect with those people who prefer to exercise outdoors and make friends with like minded people. We have a community of healthy active members with a sense of fun and we welcome everybody, no matter their fitness level. Going to the gym can be daunting for some. It is easy to feel as if you are being judged on your body shape and fashion sense, with mirrors and posers all around in abundance. It can also be very insular, with music so loud you can't have a conversation, or people wearing earphones. Even in group classes there is no communication between participants and everybody disappears within 30 seconds of the class finishing. There is also the aspect of working in a forced air environment with everybody's germs and smells being recycled. We are very different, we get people to work outside in the fresh air, and engage with each other, in pairs or teams, doing exercises, games or races. The sorts of games we play are Touch British Bulldog, Stick in the Mud, skipping with everybody on one long rope, leap frog, wheelbarrow races and piggy-back races. In fact all the games you used to play before the world went health and safety mad. Come and get in back in touch with your inner child. Fashion is not an issue, come in what is comfortable and suitable for the weather. We do work hard, with activities pitched to each individual’s fitness level, fitter members exercise at a higher intensity, but we are very inclusive. We like smiles on faces, when people are having fun they tend to work harder without realising it, and therefore get better results. The sense of community we engender makes exercising with friends something members want to come to and be part of rather than something they feel they should do. Each session will cost £4.00 however your first taster session is free, £3.00 per session if you block book 15 sessions We also have other events, such as mountain bike rides, kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, mystery runs/walks on Sundays, paint balling, and occasional socials.
