The Friend Group

Newcastle Upon Tyne, 41

The Friend Group
Welcome to The Friend Group Meetup! Our group is all about making new friends from all over the world and enjoying weekend, weekday, and evening adventures together. Whether you're a hobbyist, want to learn golf, play a friendly basketball match in the park, or just enjoy bowling, this is the perfect group for you. Join for weekend fun, activities, games nights and more. Let's connect, explore, and make lasting friendships in a fun and welcoming environment! **FAQs** * **What is The Friend Group?** A casual social club we’ve started because we believe there are people out there—like us—who might have moved to a new city or just have a smaller social circle and want to meet new people. We’re all about creating fun, laid-back space where you can connect with others without the pressure of networking events or large groups. * **Why are the group hangouts small?** There are already some great, well-established groups in Newcastle, like [Come Together Newcastle](https://www.meetup.com/come-together-newcastle/?eventOrigin=event_home_page), that already do an amazing job of bringing larger groups together for all kinds of events. The Friend Group is just another option—something for people who might not find it easy to come out of their shell in bigger settings. By keeping our groups small, we make it easier for everyone to get to know each other and feel comfortable. We also want hangouts to intentionally be a shared experience, so keeping things small the best format for that. * **Why does the first event cost £40?** The £40 fee for our first event covers everything: £36 goes directly to the event itself ([Gimme All You Got Package](https://booking.lane7.com/newcastle-booking/#activitiesbox)), and £4 helps with props and meetup page contributions. Any extras from the event goes towards keeping our Meetup page up and running. * **Why Do You Want The Group to Be Self-Sustaining?** Good question! While I’ve covered the initial costs for 6 months to get the group going, it’s really important that The Friend Group can support itself in the long run. If just one person keeps covering the costs and then can’t anymore, the whole group would have to close, which would be a bummer for everyone. ***The idea here is simple: if you enjoy the hangouts and get something out of the group, you chip in a little to help keep it going. If you’re not attending hangouts, no worries—you don’t have to pay.*** This way, the group stays flexible and fair for everyone, and we can keep bringing people together. * **How Are Future Hangouts Planned and Budgeted?** This first event is a bit of a test to see if people like the idea of smaller, more shared experience type activities. If it works, great! If not, we’ll tweak things based on what you all think. We’re planning to do test variety of events to fit different interests and budgets - friendly basketball games in the park, art classes, potlucks, etc. That way, you can pick and choose what works best for you. * **Is the Group Free to Join?** Yes, it’s totally free to join The Friend Group! Once you’re in, you can decide which events to attend based on what you like, your budget, and your schedule. There’s no pressure to come to every hangout—just join in when it feels right for you. * **Can I Get Involved with Organizing?** Absolutely! We’re just getting started, and we’d love to have more people involved. Whether you want to help plan events, manage finances, or just lend a hand, please let me know. The more people pitching in, the better this group will be. But i'm mindful that this is a new group so please feel no pressure. * **How Will Financial Transparency Be Handled?** Meetup has a pretty cool feature where we can track all the transactions and expenses. We’ll also keep receipts for anything we spend, so it’s all transparent and easy to see. This way, everyone knows exactly where the money’s going, and those who contribute can feel confident that it’s all being handled openly and fairly.

Out With the Girls 30s and 40s

Durham, D8

We’re back! This is a group for woman who would like to get out and about more, meet new people and make some new friends. I would say Durham is the central location for the group but meetups with also be planned outside of this. For example, I like to go to the Metro Centre for cinema trips to make a day out of it. And I also want to get out and about in Newcastle a bit more so expect a few meals to be planned there. The main thing I will bring to the group is meeting up for nice lunches, trips to the cinema or a combination of both! I also enjoy going out for walks (of the leisurely kind!) along the coast and other beautiful places, and exploring castles, old building and new places – I may also add a bit of this to the group to see if anyone fancies tagging along. As the group develops and I gather more ideas, I will look to expand the range of events further. In addition to this, I’m also open to members planning events however there is absolutely no obligation to do so! If you’d rather just come along for good food, chat and company then the more the merrier! For those who are interested in organising events, there will be some ‘rules’ for lack of a better phrase – see below for more details! With regards to ‘rules’ for members, all I ask is that if you commit to attending a meetup, you try your best to make it. I completely understand that emergencies happen and anxiety can get the best of us – believe me I’ve been there! If you’re unable to make something you’ve signed up for, for whatever reason, please drop me a message or leave a comment on the meetup event as soon as possible. I don’t require details, just letting me know you won’t be attending is sufficient. No shows will not be tolerated. Neither will changing your RSVP (without a comment or message) within 48hrs of an event or once an event has been booked (e.g. a table has been reserved). Honestly, it’s just common curtesy to let me know if you are no longer coming. If this groups sounds like some you might be interested, please do join and come along to event if you can! I look forward to meeting you! Katherine x Rules for Event Organisers • You must attend at least one meetup event prior to becoming an organiser so the group and I can get to know you. • You can plan up to two meetups per month. • Ensure that any meetups you plan do not conflict with any already scheduled on the group. • Ensure that any meetups are for members only – please don’t enable bring a guest. • Ensure any preparation for the meetup is done in a timely manner e.g. booking a table, gathering money to book an event. • Keep attendees up to date on the organisation of the meetup – where to meet you, at what time, how to contacted you if needed (you can give your number out if you want to or download the meetup app) • If something unexpected occurs and you are unable to make the event – inform your attendees as soon as possible. Also drop me a message in case I am available to step in. • I reserve the right to revoke the ability to organise event at any time

Darlington and Bishop Auckland Social Meetup 40+

Spennymoor, D8

Darlington and Bishop Auckland Social Meetup 40+
We host a variety of regular events e.g.meals, drinks, walks, cinema and theatre trips, days out and craft activities - all events are hosted by members who volunteer to support the running of the group. Anyone can be a host so if you have an idea for an event , let us know. The group is non- profit making and is run by a voluntary leadership group whose role is to oversee the group run successfully. Group members come from different backgrounds & bring individual differences, so kindness & mutual respect are things we value highly. We ask that everyone treats everyone else with kindness and respect and that any form of bullying, disrespect or offence to others is something we won't tolerate. Membership fees - are £5.00 per year and renew each July. Membership fees are non refundable. Keeping the group active - the group's purpose is for people to get out and about and make new friends. To do this, we need people to be active members and to attend events. Managing the finances- event hosts will decide if they want to collect deposits fir events and to collect these. It is also up to their discretion as to whether deposits are refundable. This information should be made clear in the event details. In terms of the membership fees, we need to collect enough to cover the running costs of the platform. The organisers and event hosts do not make any financial gain from the group. Restricting numbers at events - this is at the discretion of the host. We know it can be frustrating when you can't get on events so we ask you keep a regular check for events and use the waitlist option as places do become available. Cancelling off events and no shows- we understand that at times you won't be able to make events you had planned to attend. In these circumstances please let your host know that you can't make it or if you have pre-booked a meal and need to cancel late then call the restaurant and cancel your place yourself rather than rely on the host to do it. Don't forget to remove your name as attending as there may be people on the waitlist. Bringing guests- here we need to consider other members and the impact on them. If event numbers are restricted, it may mean members can't get onto events. Guests are therefore welcome on all our walks or events that are not number restricted but for all other events, we have decided that guests will not be able to attend. Dealing with issues- talking to people is the way we will deal with any concerns or issues, just as you would with friends outside the group. If you ever feel uncomfortable in the group , please do reach out and talk to one of the leadership team who will seek to support you in getting things resolved. If we are aware of any behaviour within the group that is causing upset for anyone else, we will act as needed and do reserve the right to end the membership. However, this will only be done after a resolution cannot be reached. Making decisions- the leadership team will meet regularly and any decisions relating to the group will be made jointly by them. Keeping everyone safe- health & safety and data privacy settings direct from Meetup.

Bishop Auckland Social Seekers (Something for Everyone)

Evenwood, D8

Bishop Auckland Social Seekers (Something for Everyone)
Welcome to The Bishop Auckland Social Seekers (Something for Everyone) group. So first of all we are coming close to the end of our first 6 months as a group and what a 6 months this has been!! When we set up our group, we never imagined how successful it would be, even to the point where we thought that we would never get to 25 members let alone the 62 we have today and are grateful to each and every one of you for your continued support. As we are now looking at the next 6 months, we just wanted to go over a couple of things that we as organisers have encountered and that we feel would improve the experience for all 😊 We would ask that all members regularly check the site not only for new events, but to check on events that they are already booked on. Especially when booking tickets for popular events, we may require payment in advance and quite quickly once tickets are released for sale. We do not have contact details for all members and therefore our only means of communicating details to members is through the meet up site. It's also important to check in case timings/meet up points etc have changed, and saves disappointment for all involved in the event. Meals are pre-booked for events well in advance and although it can be frustrating to not be able to get onto some events, it isn't acceptable to turn up to events on the day, especially if there is a waitlist. We have chosen to restrict numbers to 10 on these events as it is manageable for us as organisers, and some of the venues are small and cosy, and could cause embarrassment for the host and the venue if they cannot fit extra on the night. However, 10 is what we as organisers have personally chosen to implement but other hosts are welcome to manage their events ad they see fit 😊 We know that life happens and are not overly concerned with people who have to drop off events last minute. It would be helpful if you could message the host of the event prior to dropping off an event though, as this means we can monitor and confirm places with venues. There are occasions, however, that monies for deposits have to be taken prior, venue dependant, and can be non-refundable. As much advance notice as possible for non-attendance would be gratefully appreciated in these cases to allow places to be opened up to other members. If an event is fully booked, please do put your name on the waitlist as places do become available and we can then add you on. We have recently had an instance where a member has been removed from the group due to inappropriate behaviour. We would just like to gently remind everyone that offensive and inappropriate behaviour towards organisers or other members, will not be tolerated by the group. We wanted to set up this group for people to come along, meet new people, experience new things and hope to develop friendships and have a good time along the way. We aim to showcase the different types of restaurants and cuisines in our local area and possibly find new places which none of us have been or it has been a long time. Book and Cinema clubs are both popular and whilst the book club was started by a previous member it still carries on and we have all read different genres that what we would, it gives a new perception to what there is out there. In a similar vein we started the cinema club to enable people to join together to enjoy seeing films that they may not have have looked at before and also someone to go to the cinema with. As we now enter our second 6 months we feel that there are many more activities that could be of interest to our members and welcome and are open to any suggestions from you to help get more out of the group. Please feel free to step forward and host any events that you may find locally, just let us know what you'd like to do and we will put on for you. Once again, many thanks for your continued support and we look forward to another fantastic 6 months with many more shared experiences and a life well lived 😁
