Life events can make it difficult to have a social life and when you do eventually have the time to have one it can be hard to make an effort to do anything. You want to go out but do not know where to go, you feel awkward going to places by yourself - joining Solent Friends will help. (We are not a dating site!). You will have the opportunity to attend regular meet ups at the local places near you. Coffee mornings, pubs, cinemas, live music events, days out, restaurants, and lunches. You will also be able to explore the Solent and surrounding areas through organised walks. The organisers are keen to set up new things so if there is something you fancy doing then let one of them know and opportunities will be explored. Our events are hosted by a friendly organiser or event host, who will be more than happy for you to contact them prior to the event via the site. We are a non-profit making group but do have to cover our site fees and costs. The membership is £12 pro-rated Jan-Dec and is due by 2nd January. ( or when you join. Please ask for details of how to pay). Throughout the year we have random gifts at some events and at the year end we make a donation to local charities. Terms and Conditions

Membership is currently free, will will try to recover annual site expenses by the occasional addition of a small fee for chosen events, e.g. the Theatre nights where the group has received a group discount from the event provider. It is hoped that these small contributions will enable a subscription-free group to continue.

Please note to avoid no-shows at our events (which can cause difficulties in booking tables etc.), Members who, on more than one occasion, RSVP to attend but don't show up may be supended* or removed* from the group. Last minute changes to RSVP status (e.g. less than 2 hours before the event start) will be classed as a no-show.

Members who are inactive on the website for more than 6 months may be removed* from the group.

Members who RSVP for an event and do not attend but incur the Event Host costs, may be suspended* until the Event Host has been reasonably compensated.

*All suspensions or removals are at the absolute discretion of the Organiser.

Members are responsible for their own health and safety during the events which they choose to attend. No responsibility is accepted by the Event Host, the Organiser or MeetUp.com, you attend at your own risk.

Hello Everyone, I've started this book club because I'd like to read a bit more and also meet some new people.

I think we can all look forward to meeting new people and discovering some books we might never have otherwise picked up. The group is primarily aimed at 20 to 60 year olds who enjoy reading books that typically appear in top 100 lists. We may do a few classics however the aim is to enjoy rather than educate.

Each meetup will cost £2 to cover the cost of using the meetup website.
