Greenwich Borough Friends Meetup Group - New and Improved

London, 17

Greenwich Borough Friends Meetup Group - New and Improved
**Greenwich Borough Friends Meetup Group** **Introduction** Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is a community based social group facilitated by the social networking portal MeetUp. Established in 2012 the group has members from within Greenwich and further afield. The primary aim of the group is to offer opportunities for members to attend social events in and around the Greenwich area. These events are held in public places and commercial establishments open to the public. The group does not have its own premises and does not hold events in private dwellings. The purpose of the Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is to be an open and inclusive social group and as such the group welcomes members regardless of background, beliefs, or circumstance and no restrictions are placed on membership. As a group we are proud to embrace a large and diverse membership. Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is run by volunteers who are not professional event organisers. The group is not funded by any other organisation and all events are offered at no cost (Members are responsible for the purchase of their own tickets for any event such as theatre trips) and no charges are made for membership. To ensure that the group retains its open and approachable ethos a number of house rules and courtesies have been created to ensure that all members have a safe and enjoyable experience when attending one of our events. **General Conduct** 1. Attending events. The group understands that members have busy lives and that things happen that mean it is not always possible for a member to attend an event for which they have signed up. All we ask is that people to change their RSVP on the Greenwich Friends Meetup page if they are unable to attend. This helps to host to manage the event more effectively and allows members on a waitlist to attend. 2. Behaviour towards other members. As an open and diverse group it is to be expected that members will have differing opinions on a wide range of matters. While this is an interesting and valued aspect of the group, members must at all time respect the beliefs and values of all other members and refrain from making personal or abusive comments about other members. Any breaches of this behaviour could result in a member being barred from the group. To ensure that respect for members beliefs are upheld within certain events such as a topical debating forum a specific set of guidelines has been drawn up. See Debating Rules for details of these. 3. Behaviour towards organisers/hosts. Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is run by volunteers who at all times aim to provide an enjoyable and sociable experience for members. The organisers are not responsible for the quality or content of events such as theatre productions or restaurant meals. These things are out of the group’s control. Hosts are always happy to receive constructive feedback from members on an event but negative and personal criticism of the group and it’s hosts is of very limited benefit and not in the nature of this MeetUp group. **Access Statement** To assist any members of the group with disabilities in accessing our events an access statement has been published to clarify the position of Greenwich Friends Meetup Group. This gives details with regard to access into events and support before, during and after these events. The statement covers issues concerning the responsibilities of the organisers and hosts with regard to members with disabilities and their corresponding responsibilities. For more detailed information please refer to the Access Statement on these pages. **Commercial Enterprise** The purpose of the Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is to provide opportunities to attend local social events in and around the Greenwich area. It is not a commercial organisation and is not funded or sponsored by any third party. Such external event are beyond the control of the group and the inclusion of advertisements could be construed as an endorsement of, or other form of support for, the event. For this reason it has been agreed that this forum is not an appropriate platform for advertising commercial ventures of any kind regardless of their nature or purpose. Requests for such postings will be refused and any which are displayed will be removed. **Disclaimer** Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is an open and inclusive social group who welcomes all to become members. As the group meets in a wide variety of public locations the hosts and organisers cannot be responsible for the welfare, safety or access needs of any member who chooses to participate in any event organised by this group. While all reasonable steps will be taken to offer inclusive and accessible events ultimately not all events will be suitable for all members. Every member is responsible for their own health, safety, comfort, enjoyment and welfare and retains the responsibility for this throughout any event. Please also be aware that this disclaimer includes, incorporates and applies, where relevant, the whole of the Meetup.com term of service agreement which specifically states that members join Meetup and attend all Meetups at their own risk and cannot hold Meetup.com or its organisers and other members liable for damages.

Maidstone -Friends Food and Wine
Welcome to this very friendly Meetup group. We host friendly social events such as comedy nights, quizzes, breakfasts, coffee get-togethers, music and dancing events, dinners and drinks, bowling etc. From time to time we will include other events to provide a variety. We will keep events in and around Maidstone, and within a maximum radius of 10 miles of Maidstone. There is a £5 annual joining fee for new members joining the group, and for current members, which will be due for renewal on 1st August each year. Payment must be made within 4 weeks of your joining request being accepted to remain a member. Payment should be made to: T cooper 20-27-94 80181102 Please ensure you quote your name as the reference and when joining the group, use your first and last name so that payment can be matched to your joining request. We ask that members ensure they have a clear current profile photograph of themselves so that event hosts, and members, can easily recognise you. This group aims to give us a chance to meet up for some interesting conversations to enrich our lives, and form valuable friendships, and help us learn more about how the world works, as well as having fun. We also ask that members are courteous to each other. Some events, though not many, require a limited number of attendees, so please be sure when accepting an event that you want to, and intend to attend. We realise that circumstances may change closer to the date of the event, so if after accepting you find you are unable to join it, please ensure you change your RSVP to not attending as this will give others a chance to take the place and will also save event hosts looking out for you unnecessarily. Some events may require a deposit to be paid, as an example dinners, so in these instances please be sure to pay the host as soon as possible after accepting. Our intention is always to make everybody welcome and to feel included as part of the group, and we all want to have fun, and belong to a relaxed and friendly social group, so hopefully you decide it’s worth £5! We look forward to welcoming you to Maidstone Friends Food and Wine.

The Dolly Mixtures - Medway Kent

Rochester, G5

The Dolly Mixtures - Medway Kent

Please note:
Please provide a full photo - when requesting to join the group. This is a ladies only group.

New members wanting to join The Dolly Mixtures, please be aware that some commitment is required - as I only hold occasional meetups within the month and they are mostly all held at a Fixed Venue; within the Medway area. It is especially important that members try and come along and give the Dolly Mixtures a go, The group is a made up of very friendly and welcoming ladies; all waiting to meet you!!

The Group is aimed for ladies ages 40 and upwards, I am reaching out to members who preferably live in the Medway area- ie: Strood/Rochester/Higham or any surrounding Medway Towns- but I do have members that come from Gravesend/Dartford/Sittingbourne and sometimes a little further afield so if you are willing to commute the distance, then I have no problem with you joining the Dolly Mixtures.
My main purpose is to bring together "like minded individuals" from a variety of backgrounds and cultures- to "form friendships be supportive of each other " and "have a laugh" and this year we are starting to get fit together!
As my group is a small setting, I only have limited places for members at each meet-up so my intention is to take on members who "are genuine and actively want to particpate with the Dolly Mixtures Group" if you are an individual who is finding it hard to make friends through work or hobbies, or maybe you are on the "quieter side" then this group might be for you, who knows what new friends you might make!
Meetups will include:
Having a drink together, and optional food is available; having a chat and a laugh along the way!

• Occasional "Sunday Roasts" will try and coincide those with farmers market days

• Coffee shop catch ups mid week and some weekends

• Card games including"Uno" and "Chase the Queen"
• Occasional day trips, cinema and walks

• Gym and swimming.

'Remember their are no strangers just friends whom have never met'

*** Please note: I now charge an annual £6 non refundable membership fee and this will be payable on the first meet up or via bank transfer - starting from April each year. This cost covers my expenses, and re-coups my costs of running and arranging meetups every month.

What I ask from my members - note: this is a small group so any non attendance obviously impacts on the group greater, please therefore consider this before responding as spaces are limited and if you can no longer attend please let us know as soon as possible so the space can be filled by another. If you find you have failed to attend I would expect an explanation for this for the event leader. Please note that 3 non attendances can constitute removal from the group and this is at the discretion of the event leader and myself Note that guests are welcome at some events if there is space available. Do doublecheck that you can bring a guest to avoid disappointment as of course members take priority.

Also to note, we have become a very jolly, harmonious, close, kind group and we welcome wholeheartedly new friends to join us so don't worry we were all new girls once, hope to see you soon ***

Maidstone, G5

Maidstone (Kent & London) 30s & 40s Socials
**Come along and meet friendly outgoing people in the local area.** We will be going for drinks, food, films, comedy nights, gigs, salsa, book club, walks, festivals, SUP days out and various other activities in and around the Maidstone area. We will also arrange days and nights out in many other parts of Kent with the occasional trip to London. This group is ideal for Kent based professionals aged approx 30-50 years old, whether you're new to the area or find that all your friends don't go out anymore and you want to meet some new outgoing, friendly people with similar interests. Any event suggestions are always more than welcome and anyone wishing to become part of the organiser team please feel free to discuss at a Meet Up or send a message. **We look forward to welcoming you to the group!** * This group is not run for profit but it does incur a high subscription charge so in order to keep the group running and offer great events for the future we do ask that you contribute £12.50 annually to help keep this great social group alive. * New members will have the chance to attend 1 meet up for free (within 2 months of joining) before paying their £12.50. * Please make sure you have a clear up to date photo of your face on your profile so that we can recognise you at events and to help maintain the safety of the group. * Please keep your RSVPs up to date, especially for limited number events such as meals, so the host isn't looking out for you and to allow another member to attend. * Continual no-shows will be removed from the group. * Please note that this is not a dating group. * Please do not private message another member if you have not met in person. Obviously if relationships develop naturally in person that's great but please be mindful of your approach, we want people to feel comfortable coming to our events. * Any inappropriate messages towards any of our members will not be tolerated and will result in a ban from the group and will be reported to the Meet Up admin. * If you're nervous about attending a meet up, please remember that we have all been the there and felt the anxiety of the first meet so we do our best to welcome anyone who is new. The thought is much worse than the reality, and you will be so glad you made the decision to join. Please feel free to message the host of the event you are wanting to join to express any nerves before attending an event. * Be courteous and respectful to others. Have fun, make great friendships and gain an active social life again!

Kent Social Anxiety and Personal Growth

Headcorn, G5

Kent Social Anxiety and Personal Growth

I have started this group because there appears to be no such meetups in Kent for Social Anxiety sufferers, and my social life is not as good as I want it to be. This is no doubt be the scariest thing I have done so far.

Whilst I am not sure where this is going, but I thought I would try it out, and see what happens. I have suffered with SA every since I was in school, and only now do I feel like I am getting better. This meet is part of my own process in overcoming the restrictions this fear has placed upon me, and living a more successful like.

This group is not just about anxiety, but has a greater purpose in helping others live more fulfilling and successful lives. I want it to be a place were we can help each other grow and thrive. To help reduce the fears that you have and start living a more fulfilling, and happier life in general.

Anyone is welcome to join. Meetings are free, however donations are welcome to help pay for the room hire. I want this be a group for us to hang out, go to places, which can be anything from walks, social events like, drinks, cinema, concerts, anything we as member would like to try.

The Locations for the meet will be in central Kent. Maidstone, Ashford, Tonbridge towns.

This is a place for like minded people to socialise. The important thing is to become more comfortable in social settings, make a few friends, and try new things. Social anxiety is not the only topic we can talk about.

I want this to be a group friends so we can talk about anything. I also would like to share insights and experiences coping with this problem among the group.

This group is for those who suffer, shyness, awkwardness, anxiety. Those who have trouble making friends, problems at work, feelings of loneliness. This is the first group I have made, and any help with it would be appreciated. But I want us all to have a say in this.

Hopefully as the group expands I want to encourage other members to get involved in planning and hosting future events.

Disclaimer This is not a therapy session, and I am not a therapist. This is not a place for diagnosis, treatment, or cure. Though I do hope to be able to help you in some way, I still advise in getting professional help. This group is for people who offer respect, compassion, acceptance, and understanding to others. Feel free to voice you own opinions, suggestions and words of encouragement. I look forward to seeing you there. Richard
