Greenwich Borough Friends Meetup Group - New and Improved
**Greenwich Borough Friends Meetup Group** **Introduction** Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is a community based social group facilitated by the social networking portal MeetUp. Established in 2012 the group has members from within Greenwich and further afield. The primary aim of the group is to offer opportunities for members to attend social events in and around the Greenwich area. These events are held in public places and commercial establishments open to the public. The group does not have its own premises and does not hold events in private dwellings. The purpose of the Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is to be an open and inclusive social group and as such the group welcomes members regardless of background, beliefs, or circumstance and no restrictions are placed on membership. As a group we are proud to embrace a large and diverse membership.  Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is run by volunteers who are not professional event organisers. The group is not funded by any other organisation and all events are offered at no cost (Members are responsible for the purchase of their own tickets for any event such as theatre trips) and no charges are made for membership. To ensure that the group retains its open and approachable ethos a number of house rules and courtesies have been created to ensure that all members have a safe and enjoyable experience when attending one of our events. **General Conduct** 1.  Attending events. The group understands that members have busy lives and that things happen that mean it is not always possible for a member to attend an event for which they have signed up. All we ask is that people to change their RSVP on the Greenwich Friends Meetup page if they are unable to attend. This helps to host to manage the event more effectively and allows members on a waitlist to attend. 2.  Behaviour towards other members. As an open and diverse group it is to be expected that members will have differing opinions on a wide range of matters. While this is an interesting and valued aspect of the group, members must at all time respect the beliefs and values of all other members and refrain from making personal or abusive comments about other members. Any breaches of this behaviour could result in a member being barred from the group. To ensure that respect for members beliefs are upheld within certain events such as a topical debating forum a specific set of guidelines has been drawn up. See Debating Rules for details of these. 3.  Behaviour towards organisers/hosts. Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is run by volunteers who at all times aim to provide an enjoyable and sociable experience for members. The organisers are not responsible for the quality or content of events such as theatre productions or restaurant meals. These things are out of the group’s control. Hosts are always happy to receive constructive feedback from members on an event but negative and personal criticism of the group and it’s hosts is of very limited benefit and not in the nature of this MeetUp group. **Access Statement** To assist any members of the group with disabilities in accessing our events an access statement has been published to clarify the position of Greenwich Friends Meetup Group. This gives details with regard to access into events and support before, during and after these events. The statement covers issues concerning the responsibilities of the organisers and hosts with regard to members with disabilities and their corresponding responsibilities. For more detailed information please refer to the Access Statement on these pages. **Commercial Enterprise** The purpose of the Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is to provide opportunities to attend local social events in and around the Greenwich area. It is not a commercial organisation and is not funded or sponsored by any third party. Such external event are beyond the control of the group and the inclusion of advertisements could be construed as an endorsement of, or other form of support for, the event.  For this reason it has been agreed that this forum is not an appropriate platform for advertising commercial ventures of any kind regardless of their nature or purpose. Requests for such postings will be refused and any which are displayed will be removed. **Disclaimer** Greenwich Friends Meetup Group is an open and inclusive social group who welcomes all to become members. As the group meets in a wide variety of public locations the hosts and organisers cannot be responsible for the welfare, safety or access needs of any member who chooses to participate in any event organised by this group. While all reasonable steps will be taken to offer inclusive and accessible events ultimately not all events will be suitable for all members. Every member is responsible for their own health, safety, comfort, enjoyment and welfare and retains the responsibility for this throughout any event. Please also be aware that this disclaimer includes, incorporates and applies, where relevant, the whole of the Meetup.com term of service agreement which specifically states that members join Meetup and attend all Meetups at their own risk and cannot hold Meetup.com or its organisers and other members liable for damages.

We will keep events in and around Maidstone, and within a maximum radius of 10 miles of Maidstone. There is a £5 annual joining fee for new members joining the group, and for current members, which will be due for renewal on 1st August each year. Payment must be made within 4 weeks of your joining request being accepted to remain a member. Payment should be made to: T cooper 20-27-94 80181102 Please ensure you quote your name as the reference and when joining the group, use your first and last name so that payment can be matched to your joining request. We ask that members ensure they have a clear current profile photograph of themselves so that event hosts, and members, can easily recognise you. This group aims to give us a chance to meet up for some interesting conversations to enrich our lives, and form valuable friendships, and help us learn more about how the world works, as well as having fun. We also ask that members are courteous to each other. Some events, though not many, require a limited number of attendees, so please be sure when accepting an event that you want to, and intend to attend. We realise that circumstances may change closer to the date of the event, so if after accepting you find you are unable to join it, please ensure you change your RSVP to not attending as this will give others a chance to take the place and will also save event hosts looking out for you unnecessarily. Some events may require a deposit to be paid, as an example dinners, so in these instances please be sure to pay the host as soon as possible after accepting. Our intention is always to make everybody welcome and to feel included as part of the group, and we all want to have fun, and belong to a relaxed and friendly social group, so hopefully you decide it’s worth £5! We look forward to welcoming you to Maidstone Friends Food and Wine.

Maidstone (Kent & London) 30s & 40s Socials
**Come along and meet friendly outgoing people in the local area.** We will be going for drinks, food, films, comedy nights, gigs, salsa, book club, walks, festivals, SUP days out and various other activities in and around the Maidstone area. We will also arrange days and nights out in many other parts of Kent with the occasional trip to London. This group is ideal for Kent based professionals aged approx 30-50 years old, whether you're new to the area or find that all your friends don't go out anymore and you want to meet some new outgoing, friendly people with similar interests. Any event suggestions are always more than welcome and anyone wishing to become part of the organiser team please feel free to discuss at a Meet Up or send a message. **We look forward to welcoming you to the group!** * This group is not run for profit but it does incur a high subscription charge so in order to keep the group running and offer great events for the future we do ask that you contribute £12.50 annually to help keep this great social group alive. * New members will have the chance to attend 1 meet up for free (within 2 months of joining) before paying their £12.50. * Please make sure you have a clear up to date photo of your face on your profile so that we can recognise you at events and to help maintain the safety of the group. * Please keep your RSVPs up to date, especially for limited number events such as meals, so the host isn't looking out for you and to allow another member to attend. * Continual no-shows will be removed from the group. * Please note that this is not a dating group. * Please do not private message another member if you have not met in person. Obviously if relationships develop naturally in person that's great but please be mindful of your approach, we want people to feel comfortable coming to our events. * Any inappropriate messages towards any of our members will not be tolerated and will result in a ban from the group and will be reported to the Meet Up admin. * If you're nervous about attending a meet up, please remember that we have all been the there and felt the anxiety of the first meet so we do our best to welcome anyone who is new. The thought is much worse than the reality, and you will be so glad you made the decision to join. Please feel free to message the host of the event you are wanting to join to express any nerves before attending an event. * Be courteous and respectful to others. Have fun, make great friendships and gain an active social life again!

Tunbridge Wells Francophiles - The French Conversation Group

Tunbridge Wells, G5

Tunbridge Wells Francophiles - The French Conversation Group
**Bonjour et bienvenue à bord.** Tunbridge Wells Francophiles -the French Conversation Group has **been in existence for over ten years** and continues to grow and evolve. You will find a warm and inviting group with Members traveling from all over Kent, Sussex, and Surrey to attend our Meetup. We are a very informal, friendly, and jolly group – so please do not be afraid to come along. We will be looking forward to meeting you.  In terms of fluency, **there is a mixture of conversational standards within the Group but, it is preferable to have a minimum level of conversational French** to be able to join in with the discussions, as beginners may struggle. However, this group is by no means intended to be just for those who speak French perfectly: it is also about meeting people and making friends with a mutual interest in France, and things French. Everyone helps each other improve their spoken French in a positive and helpful way that builds confidence in speaking a foreign language. Regardless of your ability, you are very welcome. We meet on a **Monday evening for conversational French** at a restaurant in Tunbridge Wells **every two weeks.** The restaurant has been selected because it has a pleasant ambiance, a good menu at reasonable prices, and is located **near the centre of Tunbridge Wells**, so people can either walk or drive there. Most people have dinner, but some just join us just for a drink and a chat. **We start around 19.30**  and we speak conversational French for most of the evening but when the coffees arrive, we switch back to speaking English for the last 20 minutes or so. We usually finish around 22.00 and at most meetings, we get between 10-18 attendees. Some people are regulars who come to every meetup and others on an ad-hoc basis. We also organise other activities such as going to the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells to see French films or the occasional day trip to France.  We always welcome suggestions from members for other things to do. To cover our fixed costs, such as payments to Meetup head office for the cost of running the website and other incidental costs, **we charge a one-off joining/ membership fee of £5.00 plus a rolling £10.00 subscription charge to cover 5 meetings**, which you then renew to pay for another additional 5 meetings. However, we only ask for payments after your first visit. Please come along and see if our group is for you. If it is and you want to join, then we will ask you for the subscription. We ask that you come to a meeting within the first two months of joining which gives you four opportunities to join us in this period. If you do not come within this period, we will cancel your application but you are very welcome to re-apply and then come when it is convenient for you. **All payments are made by Internet banking** for simplicity. We are a not-for-profit group and after covering our running costs and maintaining a healthy surplus to pay for the next year’s subscription to HQ, we return all excess surpluses back to the regular Members of the Group, usually at Christmas. All funds are accounted for.  **How to join?** Please complete the application form. We require that you post a photo of yourself on your profile. It must show your face as it helps us recognise you on your first visit, so we can meet and greet you. Also, so we can help you on your first visit by seating you next to someone with a similar standard of spoken French, please indicate your level of fluency. If you do not know your level of spoken French, advice is given on this website. [https://www.france-langue.com/french-levels/](https://www.france-langue.com/french-levels/Finally,) Finally, the Group has also agreed that Members cannot use the Group as an opportunity to sell goods or services. **What next?** When we have received your application, please come along to a meeting to see if the group is for you. There is no charge for attending your first meeting. Then if you wish to join us you will need to make your payment of £15.00, you will then have access to the programme of meetings/events. The £15.00 is made up of a one-off joining /membership fee of £5.00 combined with your first subscription of £10 for 5 meetings. After 5 meetings, you then pay again for additional meetings.  Finally, If you would like any further information about our group, please email:  **maggie123meet@gmail.com** or **gareth.meetup@gmail.com**  **Quotes from attendees about Tunbridge Wells Francophiles** These are just some of the comments that we have received about the Group. Carol ***“Thanks to everyone who came along for making it such a fun evening”.*** Marcus ***“A pleasure. Nice to see everyone; good food”.*** Brian ***“I really enjoyed last night. Great to make the acquaintance of new members plus spending time with "old" friends. The group goes from strength to strength”.*** Alan ***“Good fun”*** Jean ***« Really enjoyable evening and my guest enjoyed it too and wants to join us again.”*** **It's a very informal, friendly, and jolly group - don't be afraid to come along!**

Mid Kent Social

Maidstone, G5

Mid Kent Social
Hello and welcome to Mid Kent Social. We are a broad-based social group for those of age 50+ whose members generally live in the Maidstone & Medway areas – but that’s not a prerequisite for joining! However, it is our area of interest for our events though we do plan visits & walks further afield. MKS is for all those who want to get out and make friends, and join in events which you may not get to hear about otherwise. So no staying indoors staring at four walls! Now you can enjoy a variety of events, safely and unpressured, in the company of like-minded people. These range from short walks around a town centre or River with coffee and cake after, through to country rambles, theatre and cinema on occasions, Some events will be free of charge, although others may incur entrance and/or travel costs. Where deposits/payments are needed for events, this will be clearly stated in the event listing. Organisers are happy to hear suggestions for potential future events from members. You can attend one meet up within the first month before paying the membership fee to see what we are about and what future events we have on the calendar. On occasion you may wish to bring a guest to an event but please check with an organiser first. Our membership year is 1st Sept - 31st Aug. This must be from your personal account so as to reference your subscription. The Group account for payments is: Mrs J E Kirby Sort: 60 05 29 Acc No: 22013989 We have only two conditions for membership: - Firstly, a clear very recent (within 6 months) full head & shoulders picture of YOU only (not your kids, doggie or a nice tree.....!) is required to remain in the group. This can be updated as often as you like. This is both so the event host can recognise you when you arrive at an event, and for your personal safety that you also know who is at the event. If you’re not happy with walking into an event on your own for the first time, we can arrange for the host to meet you outside. Secondly, we ask that all new members attend a MeetUp within a month of applying to see if the group suits you.. It is important that you are sure you can attend and change your RSVP to not going so others perhaps on a waitlist can go. Failure to turn up 3 times without notice or RSVP change could result in removing your profile. So if you’d like to expand your social life, come and join us! We look forward to welcoming you. **PLEASE BE AWARE FAKE PROFILES FOR PHISHING PURPOSES ARE ILLEGAL AND WILL BE REPORTED BEFORE BEING REMOVED**
