The Friends of DalesBus Walking Group

West Yorkshire, gb

The Friends of DalesBus Walking Group

ā€œDalesBus Ramblersā€ are a sub-group of ā€œFriends of DalesBusā€ who are dedicated to supporting public transport access within and to/from the Yorkshire Dales. Guided walks are often linear and involve the use of a bus or train. This puts bums on seats and helps to safeguard the future of fragile rural transport services. By taking part in a guided walk you are helping to preserve these services. You donā€™t have to be a member of the group, but memberships are welcomed and give you some fringe benefits such as being able to obtain a Dales Railcard even if you live outside the normal eligibility area.

If you normally use your car, then you need to make sure you are parked in a suitable place to access the public transport mentioned in the program. If you are not used to this, it may seem a little confusing at first, so please contact the walk leader for advice if you are unsure. For example, a walk from Buckden to Ribblehead may involve parking in Skipton or Leeds, catching the bus to Buckden then the train back from Ribblehead.

There are huge chains of interconnecting bus services available to get to the walks. For example from Manchester and Burnley to Skipton for a Grassington service, or from Bradford to Keighley to Skipton to Malham. Bus service details in the dales are available on www.dalesbus.org or contact the walk leader if you are not sure how to access a walk.

Please note:

All walks, times and distances are approximate and are subject to revision as circumstances dictate. The walk will start after the bus arrives, and is timed to end in time for a return service. If there is service disruption, then this will disrupt the walk. Please accept the pace set by the walk leader, as it is designed to meet a return bus or train service. Participants going in front of the walk leader or behind the back marker may be deemed to have left the walk. Please contact the walk leader if you want further advice.

Please visit our website on www.friendsofdalesbus.org.uk for more up to date details of additional walks and any late changes to this walks program.

Whilst every care will be taken, and all walks are risk-assessed, all participants on a DalesBus Ramble are responsible for their own safety. Leaders retain the right to refuse to allow walkers with inadequate clothing or footwear to join walks, and regrettably, dogs other than registered assistance animals are not allowed on our walks.

Using the Bus or Train (details correct May 2019 and subject to change):

English concessionary bus passes are valid on most bus routes except 822, 825, 830, 831, and 881 services. Dales Freedom Rover tickets are available from the driver at Ā£10 for the day or a Dales Privilege Rover at Ā£8 on production of a railcard of any type ( e.g. Senior Railcard, Dales Railcard, Young Persons Railcard etc.), ENCTS elderly or disabled pass-holders or students with NUS or Metro Student Photocard.

Dales Railcards offering 1/3 discount on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle and Leeds-Lancaster/Morecambe routes plus special offers at certain times of the year are available for Friends of DalesBus members to purchase.

Friends of DalesBus Membership:

Costs just Ā£11 per year (Ā£16.50 for couples/families). Any excess finances are ploughed back into running bus services. To join, please visit our website or send your cheque payable to ā€œFriends of DalesBusā€ plus your name, address, and email address (optional) to: FoDB Membership Secretary, 8 Moorfields, Bramley, Leeds LS13 3JZ. www.friendsofdalesbus.org.uk

Walk classifications:

Easy: Suitable for all, a short and generally level stroll.

Moderate: A longer walk with uphill and downhill sections.

Strenuous: An extended walk with more uphill climbs and over rougher ground.

Additional information may be included with the walk details. For example ā€œuses pathless open access landā€ gives an indication that the going is likely to be tougher than normal. Please contact the walk leader for additional information.

Friends social group

Friends social group
Welcome to our friendly group for people 50 or over who are looking to make new friends. We are based in Leeds and have members from all over Yorkshire. Our objective is to bring together peopleĀ who are looking to broaden their circle of friends and socialise a bit more. We organise a wide variety of events, so there's always something for everyone or ask if you have some ideas. Don't suffer from loneliness at home when you can join us and have fun! If youā€™d like to try us out before paying the Ā£5 annual membership fee, you are very welcome to attend one of our coffee mornings free of charge. **Please be courteous to others!** We understand that things can and do happen at the last minute so if youā€™re going to be late or unable to attend, please amend your RSVP as soon as possible to let your host know and / or allow someone on the waiting list to go instead. We donā€™t tolerate no shows and will remove members who donā€™t make their apologies more than once. If youā€™re feeling unwell, please donā€™t show up and pass along your germs to others! We are a social group and not a vehicle for advertising your products or business. Memberships are cancelled if you contravene these rules or have not attended any event for six months. To join, please **make sure your profile photo is a clear, recent, face-only without sunglasses (just like a passport photo)**. This helps our hosts easily identify you at events. As there are multiple people who go by a common first name only, **we need to be able to distinguish you from others**. So, we ask for something that uniquely identifies you such as a surname. For the same reason, the initial wonā€™t be sufficient but a throw in another letter (which doesnā€™t have to be the second one) or a number and weā€™d be happy! For example, please don't name yourself "Paul", or "Paul G", but ā€œPaul Grantā€, "Paul G24" or "Paul G - York". The cost of 2024ā€™s annual membership is Ā£5, payable to your host at your first event of the year. Please note that we may not be able to action Requests to Join immediately as we fit in our volunteering for this group amongst other commitments (full time work as an example!). Thank you for considering joining our group. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Harrogate Ladies

Harrogate Ladies

Are you a female wishing to meet new friends, expand your current social network or just meet new people in general to share some fun time with? Then maybe this is the group for you! This group was created for females in the Harrogate and other surrounding areas to come together, chat and make new friends in the process.

Please note the following:

1. Please make sure that you have a current photo of yourself and use your first name, not a nickname. It is hard to identify members at events when we only can go by a picture of their children or pets.

2. Respect and consideration for others is priority so if you RSVP for a meet up please do attend. I understand that due to unforeseen circumstances one may need to cancel but if you could please change your RSVP and inform the organiser/host it would be much appreciated.

3. Unfortunately, on previous occasions, venues/tables have been organised and booked, and some members haven't attended on the day. As such, members will still be charged Ā£1 for a 'no show' on that date. If you can't attend please advise and change your status prior to the day of the event.

4. Member activity is monitored monthly and no shows and or inactive members will be removed.

5. The MeetUp website charges a fee each month to run, and so to stay active there is a small fee of Ā£1 at each event towards the cost of running the website, and is very appreciated!

Take care and look forward to meeting you soon.

Thank you

Chapel Allerton and Roundhay Nights Out

Leeds, 45

Chapel Allerton and Roundhay Nights Out

Hi and welcome to the Chapel Allerton and Roundhay Nights Out group.

This is a friendly group aimed primarily at people who would like to make new friends in the Chapel Allerton and Leeds areas over casual nights out. We will be providing the opportunity to meet new people in a casual friendly environment, whether it is over a few drinks in local bars and pubs, or sampling the local cuisine, attending a musical gig, catching a movie or joining in with one of the many comedy clubs in the Leeds area.

If this sounds like the kind of things that would interest you then it would be great to hear from you.

Important: When joining the group please provide a photo that clearly shows your face and some interests so that the organiser(s) and other members can easily recognise you on events. If you do not provide a suitable photo or something about yourself (however basic) then your join request will be declined.
Important: When adding yourself to an event, if the event is full (such as the limit has been reached), then add yourself to the waiting list and when someone drops out the first person on the waiting list will automatically join the event. If you can no longer make the event, please change your RSVP to 'No' to allow someone else to go in your place. If you repeatedly fail to cancel your attendance and do not show up for events then your membership from the group may be cancelled as it is not fair on other members and organisers who have taken the time and effort to attend events.
Let's Play The Piano! - Leeds

Leeds, 45

Let's Play The Piano! - Leeds

If you love playing or listening to the piano, our group is for you!

Having established "Let's Play The Piano! - Manchester" in 2015, we thought it would be great if Leeds also had a group!

All abilities/styles welcome and no previous performance experience required (playing is optional).

The events will be informal, the aim being to increase performance confidence, have fun and meet new friends. If you'd like to try a duet, just bring it along!

Refreshments are included and non-players/audience welcome too.

There's an attendance fee of Ā£6. This is just to cover operational costs including insurance.

Besbrode Pianos (www.besbrodepianos.co.uk) have very kindly offered us private use of the Steinway floor of their showroom. As you can see from the photo, it's very impressive and we'll be spoilt for choice on which piano to use! The events will be on a Sunday afternoon, so plenty of free parking outside. It's also about 15mins walk from Leeds train station.

Looking forward to seeing you at an event soon!
