Aberdeen 20s and 30s Social
Our group is for those in their 20's and 30's to mingle, be social, and meet some like-minded people. Join us if you're keen to expand your social circle and make the most of your free time. You may remember us from pre-COVID times where we were very active from 2017 through to March 2020 when the pandemic hit! Our events included tea/coffee meets, pub/bar socials, walking, bowling, mini golf, cinema, cards against humanity, meals out, acoustic music pub meets etc. MEMBERSHIP FEES: Before COVID, our group was run at the cost of the organisers. This time we are taking a new approach and asking all members to contribute £2 towards the membership fees. You will not be accepted into the group until this is paid. \- Before acceptance to the group\, please send £2 via Paypal to 'aberdeen2030social@gmail\.com'\. \- PLEASE MAKE SURE TO TICK 'FRIENDS & FAMILY' FOR PAYMENT\. We have already had people NOT do this and paypal take a 20% cut every time because they believe it is a business transaction when it is not\. \- If you do not wish to use paypal\, please email for alternative payment details\. \- We've had many people send a join request but not send the membership fee\. If this is not sent within 48 hours your request to join will be deleted\. Please re\-request once membership has been paid\. Please note: THIS IS A NEW BEGINNING FOR OUR GROUP. Although I (Chris) will be aiming to run events when my free time allows, a couple of our other main hosts pre-covid have moved away from the city so we are looking for more people to host events. Please stick with us during our initial start up and quiet periods. This group is what you make of it too. If you wish to run events of your own and help us make the group more active, please contact me to discuss, either by message here or by email above. it would be greatly appreciated. If any of you receive any unwanted direct messages from others in the group (especially those you’ve never met), let an organiser know and it will be swiftly dealt with. We want group members to feel comfortable coming along to our events to meet new people and enjoy themselves. THIS IS NOT DATING GROUP

Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club

Bridge of Don, T5

Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club
Who we are: The Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club meets on the second Thursday of every month in central Aberdeen. We want to be an inclusive group and we welcome everyone, from all ages, genders, demographics, and identies who want to share their interest in Science-Fiction no matter how much or little they know of it. What we do: Every month we will read the book from the reading list, set in advance by your un-democratically chosen Leaders, then meet up online to give everybody their moment to say what they felt about what we just read - what you liked, what you didn't like, or just what made you laugh or cry. We also have sporadic cinema nights on those blessed occasions that an SF movie receives a general cinema release, and as we have moved from pub based meetups to online we also try for a few social meetups over a meal and a drink to remind us all we are real people and not replaced by AI avatars! What we read: I have long since ditched our "We try to avoid the classics" because our members have a varying history with the genre, some very new, some read all their live so I declare the Golden age fair game again! We read everything from Alternative Histories, Dystopian Futures to Hard Science Fiction and Space Opera, even a bit of Science-Fantasty now and then. We are always open to suggestion, so please just message one of the organisers and we'll add your suggestions to the growing list! Membership and attendance: It is free to join the Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club and attend social events, but I do ask a very small sum of £1.00 per meeting to help cover the costs incurred from running the book club on Meetup.

Aberdeen Young Walkers

Aberdeen, T5

Aberdeen Young Walkers
Aberdeen Young Walkers is part of Ramblers Scotland, a charity which aims to promote walking through out Scotland. We have a great group of organisers who not only organise hillwalking meets but a wide variety of social events too! So if you are looking to have fun, get fit, and meet a welcoming bunch of people, then this is the ideal group for you! **Joining us** Please ensure that your profile has a clearly identifiable picture of you on it, as well as your actual first name. This is for the safety of our walk leaders. **Membership** This is a Ramblers group and as such we ask people who wish to walk with the group regularly to join as a member. Membership costs around £41 a year and there are lots of great benefits (in addition to being able to come on our walks!) including a magazine 4 times a year, organised skills training, and a discount at Cotswolds!  New people to the group can come along up to three times before deciding if they want to join. Please let us know if you are already a Ramblers member.   You can join online by visiting Ramblers website @ https://www.ramblers.org.uk/membership Please ensure you select ABERDEEN YOUNG WALKERS as your group. We are not the group called 'Aberdeen'. **Safety** Please note: All members should take responsibility for their own well being and safety while on the walks. All members attending any hill walks should have a good pair of walking boots, waterproofs, rucksack and warm layers as a minimum unless otherwise stated by the walk organiser. The weather in Scotland is highly unpredictable and you should come prepared for all weather conditions even if it is sunny at the start of the day! Please do not come dressed in Jeans, trainers or other inappropriate clothing as you may not be allowed on the walk especially if it is a potential risk to the group. We have also put together [kit lists for low level and high level walks](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U94Ckm8zHfCYF6v5iWz2Zt7nzB7bywtd?usp=drive_link). If you are unsure about what is appropriate kit, please contact one of the walk leaders - we are all more than happy to help **No shows/wait list** We have a large number of members signed up to the waiting list for each event - as a result we would request that you think in advance about whether you can attend a walk, and change your RSVP as soon as possible - preferably several days before - if you cannot. **Photographs**  Photographs which are published on Meetup may be used on Social Media sites and for Marketing purposes so if you are uncomfortable with this, please ensure you get in touch with one of the organisers.  **Conduct** We will not accept - * Aggressive or abusive behaviour * Offensive comments / jokes * Bullying or harassment * Unsolicited advances / contact (including in-person, text, calls, Whatsapp, e-mail) We hope to see you on an event soon! So there is no need for mats and no special clothing required. We are all volunteers of a Charity organisation and have many years of experience in offering free Sahaja Yoga Meditation classes. --- All across the globe, many are seeking new sources of energy. Meanwhile, the most **transformative energy** of all is hiding in plain sight, within us. It's natural, sustainable, and infinitely renewable. It's called inner kundalini energy. And everyone already has it — everyone!. It is often likened to an inner feminine or motherly energy which automatically knows about us and what is needed to help us **restore balance and harmony** within our subtle being. It works spontaneously, effortlessly, organically and cannot be paid for. --- The classes are designed to help those attending get into a genuine meditative state, which can be felt tangibly. It is **quite effortless and spontaneous**.The free classes feature introductory talks, video's, practical workshops and general question and answer opportunities, making them perfect for seekers trying to establish a **state of yoga**, and they are available across London most evenings and throughout the UK. --- The idea is that you don't do yoga - you Achieve Yoga! --- Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a simple, time-honored technique. Anyone can do it.Founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a world wide movement for **peace and self awakening**. --- All the meetings and classes are free of any charge. Each week we go through **simple meditation techniques**, often with guided meditations to help **re**duce stress and achieve the peace of true meditation. --- We share tips on how to help stay in balance during the day and how to meditate at home. The meditation is based on connecting with the inner chakras (energy centres) and **balancing the subtle body**. --- The tradition and aims of meditation are explained which in essence is to be in the present with **no mental activity or thoughts** about the past or the future.Occasionally there are 1 day retreats to help those interested, deepen their individual experience and hear advice and tips from those who have been practicing for some time. It’s ultimately all about getting into ‘thoughtless awareness’, a **natural state** of being. --- We have a web site in London too which you can visit if you are ever there for more info about weekly meetings:[www.sahajayogalondon.co.uk](http://www.sahajayogalondon.co.uk/)Join us on [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/London.Free.Meditation) and [Twitter](https://twitter.com/SahajL) --- 10 Reasons to try-out Sahaja Yoga Meditation in **Aberdeen in 2023** --- **It’s easy.** You don’t have to spend years living in the mountains to achieve enlightenment. You don’t have to give up anything or spend weeks in silence. You don’t have to learn mantras or wear special clothes or even try to clear my mind. The meditation simply happens spontaneously. The classes are easy and fun, and as long as you keep up your daily ten minutes of meditation you find you are able to achieve a deep and peaceful meditation on a regular basis. **It’s free.** You don’t pay for your meditation. There are no catches, and there are no hidden expenses. If you missed attending classes one week, it doesn’t matter. You just picked up the classes again when you could manage it. It is simply the generosity of spirit of other Sahaja Yoga meditation practitioners that allows Sahaja Yoga to be taught to whomever desires it, at no cost. **You can see results.** You feel relaxed and you feel a deep sense of calm. Now you can also feel your chakras (energy centres) and through the meditation techniques learnt along the way you can understand the vibrations of your own energy centres. If you feel unwell you meditate and use the techniques you’ve learnt to heal your chakras, and you can then feel the centres clearing, and as a consequence your health improves. **It’s all-inclusive.** All the major religions and their core teachings are acknowledged and respected in Sahaja Yoga. No one’s spiritual journey is right or wrong. And through meditation the wisdom of all the great gurus and saints is easily revealed and understood. In fact, you’ll find that since you’ve been meditating you’ll come to understand and appreciate the teachings of great teachers such as Lao Tse, Buddha and Mohammed. **You’re your own boss.** You meditate and introspect at your own pace. You don’t have to keep up with others, or feel pressured into doing things you’re not comfortable with. You are your own teacher, your own guru, your own master. This technique of meditation empowers you and enables you to help yourself. You don’t have to rely on anybody else. Of course, there are many people who practice Sahaja Yoga Meditation who can teach you a great deal about the yoga & meditation and its various techniques. However, all that you need is ultimately within you. **It’s everywhere.** Sahaja Yoga is practiced in almost every country in the world. So, no matter where you travel you can always locate a local Sahaja Yoga Meditation programme that you can attend. Whenever you get the chance, and no matter where you are, You try to link up with other Sahaja Yoga practitioners and enjoy a collective meditation. (Meditating with others is a much deeper and more powerful experience than meditating alone.) **It’s portable.** You don’t need to take anything with you to meditate: no mats, no potions, no special clothing or books. You can meditate anywhere – in a quiet room or on a noisy bus; at the beach or watching a movie. Thoughtless awareness (the state of meditation) is easy to achieve if you keep meditating daily, and it can be achieved in almost any situation. **It makes sense.** Everything you’ll learn will make sense. There is a lot of common sense in Sahaja Yogameditation, and even though not everything was known to you (for example, the chakras and their respective qualities), once you have a chance to learn more about the meditation, it feels very natural and comfortable. **Everybody does it.** When you begin a hobby or join a new group, you often find that there are particular types of people who are in the group with you. For example, some groups attract younger people, others older folk; some groups have a lot of people who are wealthy, or people who live in a certain part of town. In Sahaja Yoga you will find people from every walk of life, from every demographic – male and female, young and old, rich and poor, every shape, size and colour, with varying interests, languages and beliefs. You don’t have to be a certain type of person to do Sahaja Yoga meditation. It is one of those rarities: something for everybody. **You feel good.** Without fail, every time you sit down to meditate you feel better.
