Whether it's a weekend hike, cultural activities, dancing, lessons, scuba, concerts, or an evening out on the town or stargazing, our group is all about free thinking and going on exciting adventures together. Recovery Dharma is a peer-led movement and community that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to recover and find freedom from the suffering of substance use disorder. Our program uses the practices of meditation, self-inquiry, wisdom, compassion and community as tools for recovery and healing. We believe that recovery is about finding our own inner wisdom and our own path.

This is a group for people to get together, eat, drink, be merry, and play board games. Though the group is primarily LGBTQ, all are welcome. Simple silly game at times, maybe larger group party games once in a while, but mostly the main emphasis will be on more long form (1-3 hours) Euro-type cooperative and competitive games - thought-provoking and thought-inducing games for mainly 3-5 players. Looking for laid back, easy-going people who want to play games and don't take it seriously.

I created a bar/drinking meeting group back in 2019 for Palm Springs locals. It was open to all ages, but it has become a de facto seniors’ group. There’s nothing wrong with that, but non-seniors stopped attending events, and most of the attendees weren’t “bar” people (i.e. didn’t stay out late, often didn’t drink, etc.).

So, we’re going to split the two groups, divided by age 60. This group will be the non-seniors’ group, and I’ll edit the other group to reflect its new age range, with the same title. This way no will feel excluded.

The group exists to help Coachella Valley locals (rather than tourists) to meet each other, and maybe explore some of the local nightlife together. Other than the age requirement, everyone is welcome, but please respect that it’s for people who like to party, at least on weekends. If you’d prefer to pick at a salad & drink waters for three hours, we’re not the right fit for you.

I am a certified sommelier with certifications from the Wine Scholar Guild in France and the Wine and Spirits Education Trust in the UK. Through my formal education in wine I am familiar with wines from many regions in the world. I am a vineyard owner with a small (400 vines) vineyard of Nero d'Avola grapes. The purpose of this group is to meet fellow wine lovers, enjoy different wines and learn a bit about wine. Our tastings include a minimum of 5 wines to taste along with food. **Books and Booze in the Desert is a group for women who love to read, share thoughts about books and have a cocktail or two in the company of a few new friends.** Please Note: We recently started a second group to focus exclusively on Mystery Novels. This group will meet less frequently, also on Thursday evenings, beginning in January. Membership in Books and Booze in the Desert will allow you to attend either group or both. I (Leslie Smith) took over this group almost a year ago and I'm delighted with the progress we've made in that time. There is now a core group of members who show up for most meetings, and everyone seems quite comfortable sharing their thoughts about the books we read. Since the previous Organizer provided a brief biography in this space, I will do the same. I'm a full time resident of Palm Springs; I'm retired, and I am excessively enthusiastic about lots of things, including books, wine, and photography, and I love to share my enthusiasm with others. I put a lot of time and thought into the books I select for us to read. I appreciate the fact that everyone has different taste and so I attempt to find books which will appeal to a broad audience. However, I freely admit a preference for strong female characters! I welcome comments, suggestions, thoughts, etc. from members at any time. You can always reach me via the website although I typically share my email address and phone number at meetings as well.

We practice a basic silent (non-guided) meditation for 30 minutes, a walking meditation (deliberate walking, feeling connection to our bodies and the earth) for 10 minutes, and a Dharma book reading and discussion for 20 to 30 minutes.
