The 100-year-old Sierra Club has 3.8 million member and will allows us to continue offer outdoor activities in the same manner as always, with our leader posting hikes and hikers RSVPing for events using Meetup.  We hope you will support us by joining the Sierra Club **[https://www.connecticut.sierraclub.org/  ](https://www.connecticut.sierraclub.org/)** membership is not a requirement (But encouraged) to participate in hikes & events. This change is solely an internal move so we may retain the ability to post and lead hikes consistent with what we currently do. The CT Sierra Club is a strong organization with a mission to protect the resources of CT, from the Sound to the forest uplands and the flora and fauna that occupy these places and the places in between. They will help us with all the support that our hikers/event participants don’t see but enable us to operate effectively. (Training, Liability protection for our leaders, etc.)    **The CT Chapter is regulated by and subject to the Articles of Incorporation and By-laws of the Sierra Club, Inc., and organized under Section (501) c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.**

This will still be a casual affair but padded pants and shorts, faster drying breathable shirts and biking gloves are recommended. Rides continue into colder months so use layers of clothing that can be adjusted as necessary. Type of bicycle- The majority of our riders use hybrid bicycles. These work best at our pace of 10 MPH and ride better on stone dust trails and off road. Your local bike shop is the best place to purchase one. Sophia Meditation Center

Old Saybrook, CT

Sophia Meditation Center

Register here to stay informed: https://sophiameditation.org

Sophia Meditation Center was created by a group of friends to provide a welcoming, warm, and inspiring place for anyone to come and meditate. We wanted a place like that, and expect that you do, too. That is why most of our schedule is simply open meditation sessions: come when you can, and meditate for the period of time you prefer.

For those who want meditation instruction, we also offer meditation classes and retreats for all levels of meditators.

Sophia Meditation Center is a non-profit organization, so all of our activities are donation-based and tax-deductible. There are no set fees, dues, subscriptions, memberships, "masters," anyone to follow, and vows or oaths to take, or anything like that.

So enough about us, let's talk about what you really want to know:

What is Meditation, Really?

Real meditation is:

• a form of perception

• a way of getting information

• a precise science

In modern times, people use the word meditation in vague, imprecise, and contradictory ways. In fact, most people have no idea what meditation really is.

Meditation is a state of consciousness. Since consciousness is the basis of perception, meditation is a state of perception.

In the state of meditation, by reflecting on a problem or question, we can find answers, insight, wisdom, guidance.

In the state of meditation, we can perceive what is hidden from the physical senses.

In the state of meditation, there is no debate, dogma, belief, or theory: there is only the experience of what is real.

Meditation Instruction

We offer:

• Silent, open meditation sessions a few times a week, where you can come and go as you wish. Drop by, enjoy the peace and quiet.

• Lectures twice a month on alternating Saturdays.

The lectures are recorded, so you can listen to them anytime, or check them out to see if what we teach is a good match for you.

Download free recorded lectures and accompanying images.

Have a question? Please let us know.

We hope to meet you!

Sincerely,

Your friends at Sophia Meditation Center

AWBL

Madison, CT

AWBL

The Association of Women Business Leaders (AWBL) is a community of Connecticut women professionals who network, brainstorm and empower each other in their business pursuits. More than a networking group, AWBL has a strong educational aspect to assist members in growing their businesses while maintaining balance. Come and experience our inspiring speakers.

WE ARE STILL MEETING - READ OUR CHANGES IN 2019

In July of 2017 we moved from Comfort Keepers, 722 Village Walk, Guilford due to the sale of the business.

Thank you Patti Urban for your  commitment to AWBL and giving us a home for so many years. We created a wonderful community and we still will keep it going.

Finding a venue on the shoreline that can serve us mornings has been a challenge to say the least. We tried  various venues and locations in 2018 and they were not the right fit.

WE DID  NOT WANT TO ABANDON OUR AWBL COMMUNITY THAT HAD COME TO RELY ON THE CONNECTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED. WHEN THE LEADERSHIP MET THE FEELINGS WERE MUTUAL AND WHILE WE ARE ALL BUSY WE LOVE THIS GROUP AND ITS MISSION.

WE ARE SHIFTING TO A NEW FORMAT FOR NOW. WE HOPE YOU WILL CONTINUE JOIN US.

We are currently meeting quarterly (4 Meetings) from September to June only. We are moving to a lunch meeting and it will be the 2nd Thursday and 2 hours to accommodate lunch and speaker. See Dates below.

You will still be required to pay $5 at the door and be responsible for the cost of your lunch and beverage.  Check our meeting listings for details. For now mark your calendars for dates and times established.
