The Hiking Group - CT & NY

This is a group for anyone interested in hiking (most of our members are 50 years old and older). All skills levels are welcome. We started this group to meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Looking forward to exploring the outdoors with everybody. PLEASE make sure you have a CLEAR PHOTO of yourself on your profile picture. This is REQUIRED so that you can easily be recognized. Every weekend we offer hikes of varying degrees of difficulty. Hike are free for members (membership only $10) and $2 per hike for non-members. Sometimes we stop at a restaurant for supper after the hike. "C" hikes are the easiest with minimal elevation and duration (2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours). "B" hikes are more challenging in terms of elevation & duration (2 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours). "A" hikes are the most challenging (4 to 6 1/2 hours). Hiking boots or sturdy footwear & a backpack are strongly recommended. Bring liquids and a trail lunch. Children are welcome. It's up to the hike leader if dogs are allowed. Please give yourself plenty of time, to find us, since we only wait an extra 10 minutes, before starting an event, to be fair to everyone. You are responsible, for your own safety and we cannot be held liable. The leader normally goes to the "meet" rather than the "carpool" site. People are expected to "self-assemble" and leave the "carpool" site to arrive at the "Meet" site on time. All questions concerning a particular hike can and should be addressed with the leader for that hike.

Spring as sprung! Let’s enjoy the blooming of nature by taking our flotation devices out on crescent lake. Kayaks and paddle boards are NOT provided so please bring your own or if anyone has a two person kayak and is will to make a new friend leave a note in the comments. Based on the weather please dress accordingly, rainy days could make for a great adventure! Please leave any personal items in your vehicle or make sure they are tied down to your raft. The entire lake is about a mile and a half loop which could take us about an hour.

Litchfield County Explorers

Our meetup group schedules hikes regularly for both the advanced hiker looking for long and strenuous workouts as well as the less serious hiker looking for shorter and more moderate walks. We hike all the trails and preserves in the Litchfield County area and often venture into New York and Massachusetts. Our focus is on exercise, making friends, and appreciating nature. We usually follow each hike with a social gathering at a local eatery.

This group is unique in that there is strong emphasis on learning about the diverse flora and fauna of Connecticut's wooded habitats and its ecology. I recently completed the DEEP/Goodwin Forest Master Naturalist program and love sharing the things I find exciting about the areas we explore. I am also really interested in CT history. When I'm not leading hikes for Litchfield County Explorers, I guide hikes professionally for the Mayflower Inn in Washington, CT and internationally for Connecticut Audubon Society EcoTravel. I am certified as an AMC hike leader and in wilderness first aid from the National Outdoor Leadership School.

Join us weekly for fun knitting and crocheting, conversation, and new friends. We welcome all skill levels and needlecrafts. Don't knit or crochet? Bring the craft you do!

We look forward to getting to know you! Please RSVP when you are able to attend a meeting so we know to look out for you. Our group of regulars has gotten large and meetings are well attended and space can get tight if we are not prepared. Please RSVP every week if you know you are coming! We need to know when to add tables and chairs.

Our group has a limit of 50 members. Three to four times per year I need to remove inactive members. If you do not attend the weekly meeting at least every so often, I'll send you a message asking you to please make room for someone else to join. You are always welcome to stay or rejoin, but please do not remain a member if you do not intend to come to our meetup.

The meetup is free to attend. Twice per year (June and December) I ask regular members to contribute towards the Meetup fee that I pay. This is completely voluntary and works out to about $4 or $5 for the six months.
