The Greater Wilmington-Newark Book Club

The Greater Wilmington-Newark Book Club

Hi! If you've been looking for a friendly and casual book club, you've come to the right place! Since 2007, we have been meeting every month for fun, thoughtful discussions of contemporary fiction and non-fiction, movie nights, author talks, field trips and more. My hope is for us to read things we might never have noticed or picked up on our own--we might just discover a new favorite book that way! Or, you might hate something we read and be the perfect devil's advocate. :) Either way, come check us out!

Join our Facebook group to keep in touch between meetings!

To see what we've read before, join our goodreads group, where you can access our bookshelf of all of our past book choices.

Feel free to check out our handy FAQs for all your burning questions, or send a message to one of the organizers any time.

Thanks for checking us out! We're happy to have you.

Note: This group is not open to solicitors. Please join only in the genuine hope of discussing books and meeting with other book lovers! Authors or publishers should please contact our organizers about any books you are promoting rather than posting publicly. <br>

Newark Acoustic Jam

Newark, DE

Newark Acoustic Jam

This group is for acoustic lovers who are self trained to those who are classically trained. Advanced beginners to professionals are invited. (Advanced beginner meaning players should be able to move smoothly through 3-4 basic chords).

While the name says "guitar", this group is acoustic in general. There's always room for bass, mandolin, harmonica, tambourine/shakers, keyboards, and so on. Also singers are welcomed with or without an instrument!
All styles are welcome and encouraged to join. As of this moment, I’m envisioning our group meeting 1-2 times per month.

To start with, we will meet at The Newark Arts Alliance in Newark. They have offered us some space on Sundays from 12:30 a.m. -approx 3 pm. During the nicer weather we may be able to meet in members backyards or parks, again, going with the flow. (Staying in and around Newark).  We're open to ideas.

What will we play? Whatever you’d like! A day or two before the meet-up, please visit the site to see how many people are coming. If 10 are signed up, then each member should print off 10 copies of 4 songs. If 30 people are coming, 1-2 songs should be plenty. Please bring your music stand and please try to limit songs to 1-2 pages. If you aren’t familiar with Chordie.com, check it out. Its a good place to find songs with chords. Basically we will go around the room, and each member will start us off on the song they have chosen.

To quote Planet Fitness, ‘this is a judgement free zone’ meaning you can sing, even if like me, you can’t! It’s all about having fun!
