Ocala Meetup Group (OMG!!) Social - Adventures
Hi Everyone! Welcome to OMG!! Since 2011 our group likes to have fun while making new friends. We’re of varying ages that enjoy visiting places of interest, historic places, botanic gardens, museums, cycling, pickleball, hiking, kayaking, disc golf, bowling, day trips, movies, dining out, etc. Our goal is to offer a variety of events, many will be free and some may require a fee. Life is better sharing new fun experiences with others. Please join us at one of our upcoming events. **Please get involved: We're also looking for more Event Organizers in 2023 to help create and lead events**! They can be walks, cycling, hikes, yoga, dinner, board games, breweries, movies, music, bowling, etc. If you haven't seen your preferred activity listed on your side of town, please volunteer to step up and be an Event Organizer and contact me. You might be surprised how other people are looking to do the same type of activity that you are. OMG has a great group of volunteers who plan/host our many events. We are very diverse in our views and expect members to be respectful and kind to each other. You will get out of it what you are willing to put into it and like our members to be active participants in this great group. **BY JOINING OUR *OMG*  MEETUP GROUP YOU AGREE TO OUR**  **TERMS OF PARTICIPATION** By registering and participating in this meetup, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the following statement: I understand that some activities, i.e. hiking, bicycling, kayaking, pickleball, etc. involve certain dangers and risks which I am prepared to fully assume for myself and anyone accompanying me. In addition, I agree to waive all claims which I, or any member of my family, or my heirs, executors or assigns, may have against this meetup or its agents for damages or injury sustained as the result of participating in the physical activity here or in the future with the group. It's always best to consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise activity. We are volunteers, not professional hosts, leaders, medical personnel or mechanics, just folks who enjoy group events with like minded peers :) . You are totally responsible for your own bike, kayak, personal skill level, personal safety and decisions. Hope to see you at an event soon! Ocala Photography Group

Ocala, FL

Ocala Photography Group
If you enjoy learning more about photography, taking fine arts pictures, and viewing those of others, this group is for you. At each monthly meeting, we'll share two or three of our favorites–whether new or the past. We'll also plan and enjoy field trips to events and locations that will be rich for exciting and rewarding images. Amateur and professional, fine arts or photojournalism, landscape or street photographers – all are welcome! The goals of this group are to socialize, learn, and share via photography. Socializing includes friendly discussions about Ocala and nearby places, and understanding how we each see and record photographically. Learning will not stress complicated formulas or how to use digital tools (there are thousands of YouTube/Vimeo videos out there that already do that), but rather understanding how each of us strives to successfully achieve our communications goal through photography. Sharing will take place as we encounter opportunities in our photowalks, events, meetings, commentaries, and guest presentations. Meetings will be moderated by master photographer John Elliott, a professional fine arts, photojournalism, and commercial photographer for 50 years. For more on him, see www.thehumanpulse.com/profile We look forward to seeing your images either in print or digital format and hearing your stories of challenges met and visions made! And please share one photo each week on our Facebook page! bit.ly/OPG-Facebook Please watch this space for information on our meetings. When you join the group, you will automatically receive advance notice of the upcoming meeting.

Center for Spiritual Living - Ocala

Ocala, FL

Center for Spiritual Living - Ocala
"Spiritual but not religious" is one way to describe us. "Advancement of Human Potential" is another Teaching spiritual practices and perspectives that yield tangible, real-world results is at the core of what we do. We believe happy, healthy, successful people aren’t lucky or favored by God—they are using spiritual principles that make life work. Since 1985, Center for Spiritual Living - Ocala has been offering the spiritual tools and teachings that allow people to experience a personal relationship with the Divine. We offer a multitude of opportunities for people in all stages of life to use their inherent gifts to transform their own lives, thereby making the world a better place. **Philosophy** The teachings of Centers for Spiritual Living integrate spiritual truths with philosophy, psychology and science. We revel in the ways that modern science is confirming ancient spiritual wisdom regarding the nature of Reality, humanity and our place in the cosmos. As one of the many Centers for Spiritual Living found throughout the world, Center for Spiritual Living - Ocala teaches a New Thought/Ancient Wisdom philosophy that incorporates affirmative prayer, meditation, healing, visioning, and other spiritual tools to help you lead a more conscious, harmonious and fulfilling life. **What We Believe – Our Guiding Principles** We believe that the universe is spiritual and has intelligence, purpose, beauty, and order. Our beliefs are in harmony with the essence of the world’s great spiritual teachings and we honor all paths to God. Whether it is called God, Spirit, Energy, Universal Intelligence or something else, we are ever conscious that all people, places and things are unique expressions of the Universal Intelligence that is within and all around each of us. **You and God are Inseparable** We believe God is a Loving Intelligence, never separate from anyone or anything. We believe we are all one with this indwelling Divine Presence and are therefore powerful beyond measure. We teach and practice a way of life that allows us to live in accordance with spiritual principles, which are as reliable as the laws of physical science. One of these is the law of Cause and Effect—that “It is done unto you as you believe.” In essence, your thinking and expectations create your experience of reality. By applying spiritual principles, you can change thought patterns that no longer serve you and create improved conditions in your life. Every Sunday with us is a unique experience! **Monthly Sunday Schedule:** **1st Sunday** \- Spiritual Practices **2nd Sunday** \- Super Second Sunday **3rd Sunday** \- Circle Sunday **4th Sunday** \- Psychedelics\, Dreams\, and Rituals \- We Are the Medicine **5th Sunday** \- The PRISM Market \(Spiritual Fair\)

Kayak The Nature Coast Gulf and Central Florida Rivers

Silver Springs, FL

Kayak The Nature Coast Gulf and Central Florida Rivers

MORE THAN 100 SPECTACULAR CENTRAL FLORIDA AND GULF "NATURE COAST" TRIPS!

WE'RE EXPERIENCED, SAFETY-CONSCIOUS KAYAKERS!

WE ESPECIALLY ENJOY OUR "SECRET" SIDE AREAS!

AND WE STOP TO OBSERVE WILDLIFE AND TAKE PHOTOS!

(Stopping to enjoy wildlife along the way is a principal focus of our events, and we have outstanding photographers who paddle with us!  Our collection of photo albums is truly awesome!  This handsome hunk was "captured" by Bill K., on the Santa Fe River.)

(Photographer and "Assistant Organizer" Bill K. and "Event Organizer" Goti in one of our many "secret" places, Photo by Cris)

WHERE WE PADDLE: The Gulf's "Nature Coast” from Steinhatchee to Tampa, and Central Florida waterways as far north as Gainesville and the Santa Fe, as far south as Tampa and as far east as the Orlando area. We've explored all these areas and have found our own special, "secret" places.

(Our "Event Organizer" Eric R. was leading us on one of our "secret" streams. As you can see, he's a man we can count on to get us through!  Yes, he did!  And with room to spare!!!!!!  Photo by Cris)

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR YOURSELF TO FIND OUT IF YOU QUALIFY AND WOULD ENJOY OUR EVENTS. If you answer "Yes," then "Join us!"

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: Can you swim to get back into your kayak or to shore after a flip?

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: Do you ALWAYS wear a vest-type Coast Guard-approved PFD tightened to fit snug?  (No inflatables!)

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: Does your kayak have flotation fore and aft, and do both ends stay afloat after a flip? Are all hatch covers attached securely to your kayak, both inside and out?  Do you check this at least yearly?

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: Can you do the T-Recovery to assist others to get back into their kayak after capsizing, and do you practice this?

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: If you flip and find yourself separated from the group, can you do self-recovery (get back into your kayak unassisted)? Do you practice this and do you carry the gear you need?

* SAFETY REQUIREMENT: Do you always carry a spare paddle so you can continue with the group when/if yours breaks or is out of reach?

(Finding a place to get out can be a challenge on Gulf Open Waters! Photo by Ron W.)

EVENTS: We have more than 100 different events to chose from, and the list is growing as we continue to explore new places. Our trips include well-known popular places, as well as others not found in paddling books. There are five types of paddles: inland rivers, Gulf open waters, sheltered Gulf areas, lake open waters and explorations.

HOW EVENTS ARE CHOSEN, OUR FOCUS BEING SAFETY, COMFORT & ENJOYMENT:

* For Gulf paddles, we go only when tides and winds are favorable and it’s not too hot.

* During cold weather, we start later and paddle open waters and places with manatees.

* In springtime, we paddle areas where birds are nesting.

* In autumn, we do the runs with the best fall colors.

* In hot, humid weather, we start early and do shady places and runs with springs where we can get out and cool down!

(Summertime! Staying in the shade! Photo by Goti M.)

CANCELLATION AND CHANGE OF VENUE: When weather forecasts indicate unsafe and/or uncomfortable conditions, events are cancelled or the venue changed to a place we can enjoy safely and comfortably.

(Mom and baby on the Silver River, Photo by Rick T.)

PARTICIPANTS: Experienced, safety-conscious kayakers who live throughout Florida.  Some join us only when we're paddling close to their home, others drive longer distances to experience new waterways and meet other like-minded paddlers. With the arrival of cool weather, we especially enjoy the migration of our wonderful snowbirds!

(Head spring at Gum Slough, Photo by snowbird Barb H.)

NO MEMBERSHIP DUES!

WE ARE NOT A "CLUB:"  We're only about kayaking, getting together to enjoy this sport with like-minded paddlers. After our trips, those who wish to socialize more sometimes arrange among themselves to enjoy local restaurants.

NO OBLIGATIONS TO PADDLE: Members paddle only when and where they wish.

WHO SHOWS UP: A mix of different members sign up for each of our paddles.

(During this trip up Gum Slough, Dan C.  was helping Brinda C. get over this dead fall without damaging her yak. In the background, you can see Rick W. clearing away branches, which allowed the rest of us to get through an easier, softer way! We're so fortunate to have such strong members we can count on when the going gets rough!  Photo by Rick T.)

TO SEE WHAT MEMBERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT US: Go to "Group reviews" on our "Home" page, far left near the top.

(One of our super "Nature Coast" tidal trips, this one from the Chassahowitzka River to Crawford Creek, here entering the gorgeous stretch on Crawford Creek, Photo by Cris)

ENJOYING WILDLIFE:  We slow down and/or stop in our kayaks to observe wildlife and take photos.

(The Silver River is a favorite of our talented photographers because of its numerous wildlife photo opportunities, this one caught by Brinda C.)

TIDAL CONSIDERATIONS: Gulf coastal paddles are planned for days we can expect to have plenty of water, so we won't find ourselves stranded in shallow areas with oyster bars!

OPEN WATERS EVENTS: At least 16' sea kayak and open waters gear, as well as experience paddling in winds and waves are required.

(Words could never express how very much I enjoy the company of the extraordinary yakers who choose to paddle with us!  Photo by Ron W., Remark by Cris, the Organizer)

(Heading up the Homosassa River to see MANATEES!!!!!!!!!  Photos by Cris & Rick T.)

NOTE TO BEGINNERS: We enjoy introducing new paddlers to the numerous wonders of our region! It doesn't take long to get ready when you start by learning with qualified instructors the skills needed to paddle with us. When you can answer "Yes" to the "QUESTIONS FOR YOURSELF," you'll be ready to join us! If you don't know where to start, there are three "Nature Coast" outfitters who offer lessons, kayaks and gear under "Sponsors" in our toolbar along the top.
