The Georgia Companion Bird Society (formerly known as The Georgia Cage Bird Society) was formed in 1955, and is a club for devoted parrot & bird owners/lovers. Our meetings are held monthly at the Smyrna Community Center in Smyrna, GA. Our purpose is to bring parrot people together for education, fun, networking and friendship, & as an "ADOPT DON'T SHOP" organization, our focus goal is to support and collaborate with Georgia and other state 501(c)(3) parrot/bird rescues and sanctuaries, and help the hundreds of surrendered or unwanted rescue/sanctuary birds find safe and loving homes.

Our monthly meetings include educational presentations by local Avian Veterinarians as well as various individuals with expertise in specific parrot/bird species. Many of our meetings are social events, but ALL of our meetings are solely for the birds, meaning that your healthy, clipped or harnessed well-mannered feathered kids are welcome to accompany you to the meetings!

Our "birdie" attendees ranges from the tiniest of Finches to the largest of Macaws & every kind of bird in between. In addition to the meetings, we have Spring and Fall bird picnics at Red Top Mountain, field trips, & separately from the club, many of us enjoy "Birds' Brunches or Dinners Out" at various patio restaurants in the Atlanta area.

Born in a time of COVID-19/ Coronavirus, we're a group of beginner fishermen, fisherwomen and anglers desiring to get outside in a way that we learn from each other while having fun outdoors and doing something where we can respect our distance naturally while developing ourselves collectively.  Experienced anglers are welcome as well, too.  We would love to learn from you, and you know how good it is to teach a man or woman to fish.  It's way better and much more satisfying than giving him or her one; you're teaching and learning self-reliance.

There's no need to be an expert in anything; we're not out to compete. Just join up and learn from each other and build friendships online and outdoors. For the outdoors part, you'll need your rod, real and tackle, and a Georgia fishing license. You can get them for $15 from Walmart or Bass Pro Shops, etc. (Georgia Residents). No training needed.

Remember to bring your masks (balaclavas work well too!). Let's have fun and learn how to harvest some fish!  Kayaks, canoes, etc., they're welcome too!.

This group is for you to get fit, more healthy, make friends while walking.

My name is Marigold. I started a local walking group to keep active and fit. I realized others could benefit from this so decided to share with more people that is how this group got started.

Walking for Fitness and Fun is for you if you want to keep fit, meet new friends and get the support of others to keep going with your fitness objectives.

Walking for Fitness and Fun is for different fitness levels. It's for you if you're interested in the outdoors, exercise, meeting new people, reconnecting with nature and having fun.

Our walks and hikes are in the metro Atlanta area particularly in the West, North West and South West areas.

To keep things simple you are responsible for your own health and safety and not the organizers or event hosts.

We walk as a group for approximately 1 to 2 hours which can be 1-5 miles in distance depending on the terrain e.g. parks or nature trails.

Please wear good walking shoes, and drink water before and after walks. You might also like to bring with you a light weight backpack, a facecloth or small towel (for warm days) and a bottle of water.


Feel free to invite friends and family on walks. Please update your RSVPs if your plans change as we have a two 'no shows' policy.

Hello fellow metro-Atlantans! This group is for those who want to get out and enjoy nature, some always good for you exercise, and meeting new people & making new friends. This is a no pressure group, aiming to organize weekend hikes to various locations around the metro area. Must be dog friendly, LGBTQ-friendly, and ready to go for a hike! We welcome all who want to join. We only ask that these simple rules are followed.

1. Respect Boundaries.
2. Respect Pronouns.
3. Respect Others Pets- if you bring your dog and they become aggressive towards other dogs, please be respectful of the group and walk away from the triggering dogs. We won't ask you to leave unless you don't control your dogs behavior and actions.
4. Respect Others Beliefs- the preference is no political or religious talk, but seeing as we are all adults, if there is a disagreement, the rule is agree to disagree and change the subject. Lets make this a fun walk, not an uncomfortable debate.
