Eskrima Stick and Knife Training - Combat & Self-Defense

Worcester, MA

Eskrima Stick and Knife Training - Combat & Self-Defense
Come train in the indigenous Filipino Martial Art, Kali! (Ages 12+) When: Saturdays at 11:30 am Where: Elm Park in Worcester, MA (by the bridge) What is Kali? Kali, also known as “Eskrima” or “arnis”, is the indigenous fighting style of the Philippines. The basis of Kali’s fighting principles is that of blade fighting, which is deeply interconnected within Filipino culture. Though weaponry is the backbone of Kali, the training also incorporates hand-to-hand striking and joint manipulation/wrestling, known as Panatukan and Dumog respectively. However, typically for beginners, two sticks are used to train as a basis of all of the movement that is utilized within the martial art. Where have I seen this before? Kali has been used in hundreds of films through the years and is a staple in Hollywood fight choreography. The Marvel films (most obvious is the knife fight scene in Captain America: Winter solider), The Bourne Identity series, The Equalizer, recent James Bond films, 300, and more. It is one of the most versatile martial arts and great for self defense and improving your repertoire for those in the film/stunt industry! What will we be practicing? Training will incorporate basic footwork and movement, practicing strike patterns with single, and double sticks, and plastic training knives, while maintaining distance and no physical contact. It is a great opportunity to learn a new skill, get some exercise, and meet new people What do we need to bring? Plenty of water/fluids (we will be outside!) What’s provided? Training sticks - will be sanitized with spray on location! Plastic training knives - also sanitized Who will be there? My name is Conner Bean and I am I have been a martial arts instructor for over 15 years in Tokyo, Japan and Los Angeles, California. My wife Danni and I moved to Massachusetts to have our baby last June and we are looking to pick up our practice again. She is a High School teacher in Worcester and I currently teach Middle and High Schoolers in Rutland.
