Ann Arbor Couples - Making New Friends

Ann Arbor, MI

Howdy couples! Us & You: We started this in-person group to make new friends and help couples in similar situations do so. We are a mid-late thirties couple on the introverted side, with no kids(nothing against them!), who moved to this college town during the pandemic. While some in their early 20's might find us boring, and some seniors might find us unbearably hip(said no one to us ever), we don't have any age cut-offs for membership. Events will be kid-free, but we don't care how many kids you do or don't have. We welcome couples (or thruples) of any gender identity, etc, who -also- welcome said diversity. We also welcome we-have-thirteen-cats or we-have-matching-Falcor-tattoos levels of eccentricity, but would prefer to avoid Tupac's-not-dead or I-was-probed-by-aliens levels. No offense, Jeff. Our intention with a couples group is to have a more relaxed environment without the sometimes-awkward looking-for-love energy of other groups and normal environments. We have nothing against those who enjoy swinging or the like; but we personally do not, and that is NOT the point of this group. Events: We hope to host a variety of small-scale(6-12 people) indoor and outdoor activities, ranging from couch-potato to moderate activity levels, all in-person, and mostly around downtown Ann Arbor. These could include or combine: going out for coffee/food/cocktails, local events or live music, local attractions like the botanical gardens or museums, nature walks or picnics, standup paddleboarding and kayaking, or small party-game and cocktail nights. We might consider some split events like "dude-bros hang at house while ladies step out for drinks, then rendezvous for pizza" or such. Please feel free to suggest an event, or (once we're familiar with you) offer to host your own event in the group. Looking forward to meeting you, Nick & Cynthia Optional - More About Your Hosts We are 1 part lovely, functional human woman, and 1.2 parts (by mass) odd duck on stilts wearing a human man's trench coat. We've lived in Ann Arbor since June 2021; but, due partly to the remote and travel elements of our work, we've done a piss-poor job at figuring out what making friends in a new town looks like in your thirties. We have both separately hosted meetups in the past, and now as a couple since 2016(you guessed it: we met through Meetup), we are back here hosting together. Whether dining out or enjoying a homemade pizza night, we eat gluten-free due to her Celiac. We love our two cats (Simon and Kaylee), domestic and international travel(points and miles!), quality cocktails(growing bar at home, or out), and crappy one-liners or puns. We live on the edge of downtown, and enjoy walking from spot to spot, like just making a Saturday out of heading to a cafe, to farmers' market, to brunch, to distillery, etc. Outdoors, we enjoy hiking and stand-up paddle boarding. There's not a sport(other than bowling I guess?) that we really like to do together. We can manage frisbee with the light dollar store ones(mine from Ultimate hurts her hands). And folksy-rockish music is our overlap in the soundscape. Social sciences, plants, West Virginia, photography, drums, spreadsheets, moral philosophy, cooking, fantasy, less-biased news, yoga, TV/movies, we promise we'll have -something- to connect over. :)

Oakland County Gamers - Board Game Community

Oakland County Gamers - Board Game Community
If you are looking to find local board game enthusiasts AND support local charities, this is the Meetup for you. OCG is a volunteer run charity organization that focuses on teaching board games as an avenue to build and strengthen personal connections and a local and online community to support our local charities.  All regular events are free and we have Coordinators on hand to assist you in joining groups to play games and make new friends.  The locations are chosen to support local community organizations and our annually adopted charity and offer the opportunity to support them while you play. We currently have members interested in everything from Catan and Ticket to Ride through Mare Nostrum and Food Chain Magnate, but this will ebb and flow depending on those participating.  Don’t worry if you’ve only every played games like Sorry and Monopoly.  Family board games have come a long way and OCG is here to teach and introduce you to next generation of games. Our main event is scheduled for every 2nd Saturday of the month.  Having just celebrated our 10 Year Anniversary, we have a very active core and consistently attract approximately 60-90 people to our 2nd Saturday gaming event. Smaller events are also posted throughout the month to give people the opportunity to game when available.  We are currently looking for dedicated teachers, event planners, and volunteers to further grow the community.  So, if you are interested, please contact the Organizer, Joe Brown for more information. Looking forward to gaming with you! Thanks!

My Sisters Book Club

Novi, MI

My Sisters Book Club
My Sisters Book Club will typically meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 pm to discuss thought-provoking literature, enjoy food and/or adult beverages, and have a great conversation. The focus of this book club is to enjoy the company and perspectives of other women while exploring and appreciating literature. **Processes**:  Every other month we open the meeting for three new members. New Member attendee months for the next year are as follow:  August 2021 October 2021 January 2022  March 2022  May 2022 July 2022  After your first book club meet, you are automatically able to RSVP without a waitlist to future meets until we get to a max of 20 attendees.  After attending previous book club meetings, new members are eligible for special events such as events at personal homes, movie viewings, or restaurant dinners.  Our objective is to continue building our sisterhood while maintaining and strengthening our current group's bonds.  **Book Selection**: Each month during the meet-up, we vote on what we will read for the next meeting. Any member present or not may submit a book to be included in the vote. Whatever book wins the book we read. A tie may be broken, or the alternate book is designated for the following month at the group's discretion.  **Meeting Schedule and Book Announcement:** Within three days of the meeting, I will post the next meeting date and the book selected on Meetup. Each person who RSVP's will be automatically placed on the waitlist, but current members will be removed as their place has been held. During the months that we accept new members, new members will also be removed from the waitlist based on the order of the RSVP.
