East Hampton Trails Preservation Society
East Hampton, NY
East Hampton Trails Preservation Society is a not-for-profit association dedicated to establishment, protection, maintenance, and enjoyment of trails, paths, and natural lands in the Town of East Hampton and throughout New York State. Our activities include weekly guided hikes offered to the public free of charge throughout the year on East Hampton's almost 200 miles of trails. In warmer weather, we also offer opportunities for road cycling, and for paddling by kayak, canoe or SUP around the Hampton's numerous bays and harbors. Volunteer members of EHTPS help in trail planning, mapping and maintenance, as well as educational and social activities. Members enjoy many social events, including a winter holiday party, spring brunch, summer beach picnic, and occasional movable feasts. More information, as well as a link to our membership form, is available on our website.
PLEASE NOTE: Meetup.com not infrequently shows incorrect starting locations for EHTPS activities on its maps, notwithstanding our best efforts to correct. PLEASE FOLLOW WRITTEN DIRECTIONS for where to meet, and contact the activity leader if you have any doubts or questions.

Sophia Meditation Center was created by a group of friends to provide a welcoming, warm, and inspiring place for anyone to come and meditate. We wanted a place like that, and expect that you do, too. That is why most of our schedule is simply open meditation sessions: come when you can, and meditate for the period of time you prefer.
For those who want meditation instruction, we also offer meditation classes and retreats for all levels of meditators.
Sophia Meditation Center is a non-profit organization, so all of our activities are donation-based and tax-deductible. There are no set fees, dues, subscriptions, memberships, "masters," anyone to follow, and vows or oaths to take, or anything like that.
So enough about us, let's talk about what you really want to know:
What is Meditation, Really?
Real meditation is:
• a form of perception
• a way of getting information
• a precise science
In modern times, people use the word meditation in vague, imprecise, and contradictory ways. In fact, most people have no idea what meditation really is.
Meditation is a state of consciousness. Since consciousness is the basis of perception, meditation is a state of perception.
In the state of meditation, by reflecting on a problem or question, we can find answers, insight, wisdom, guidance.
In the state of meditation, we can perceive what is hidden from the physical senses.
In the state of meditation, there is no debate, dogma, belief, or theory: there is only the experience of what is real.
