Group Guidelines

The activities outlined below are STRICTLY prohibited:

• Continually RSVPing yes to an event then not attending. This means others that want to attend are denied a place when the event becomes full. If you have three or more “no shows” then you will be removed from the group, and will have to rejoin again.

• Sending overly personal messages, sleazy attempts to flirt – ‘You look lovely in your profile picture’ – you know the kind of thing.

• Verbal, physical, sexual, discriminatory, visual etc. harassment of organizers, event hosts, members, guests and the general public. This includes online harassment via Meetup messages, WhatsApp, SMS etc.

What happens if you break the rules?

First offense - Member is given a verbal or written warning.

Second offense - Member is banned from the group.

Please note that this is subject to the discretion of the organizers. In some circumstances, offending members will be banned without warning and if a crime is being/has been committed, the police will be informed.

If you feel that others in the group are breaking these rules (for example, spamming your inbox or sending you private messages that make you feel uncomfortable), please notify one of our organizers immediately, your report will be kept anonymous.

The New Horizons Network is a job search network support group. Founded in 2003, it is committed to assisting people who are pursuing employment with Rochester, N.Y.  area companies and beyond, as well as those interested in Self-employment or retirement alternatives.

It provides a forum for assistance in the areas of Transition Skills [resume and elevator speech preparation, interviewing, networking, social media, etc] as well as health benefits and insurance, credit counseling, investment decisions and alternatives, self employment opportunities [eg. Franchising], etc.

New Horizons Network meets weekly, starting with 'Light Networking' at 8 AM at The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1957 Five Mile line Road, about 1 mile North of the Penfield four corners. It is located on the SW corner of Five Mile Line and Whalen Roads, in Penfield. The business meeting continues from 8:30 - 10 :15 AM.

Meetings follow a common agenda format that is distributed every Sunday night to attendees who have signed an Attendance Sheet at a prior meeting.

Welcome! Our PURPOSE is to provide a central cyber location for women of the greater Rochester area (in Victor, Canandaigua, Pittsford, Brighton, Fairport, Irondequoit and many more) to come together and enjoy day trips, lunch, dinner, festivals, flea markets, movies, hiking, bike riding, theatre, spa days, shopping, coffee, conversation, potlucks, cooking classes, wineries, and more. Whether you are new to the region, found yourself to be an empty nester, or just need to do something nice for yourself and make some friends—we are here for you, to give you that little nudge and to support you to sign up and begin meeting friends and doing fun things!

There are a few guidelines.

*Your profile picture needs to be a picture of you. We want to know YOU and also be a social network of integrity and one that is secure. Plus, we want to be able to recognize you.

*If you RSVP for an event, you are expected to show up for it. If you are unable to attend, you must change your RSVP to “not attending” at least 48 hours prior to the event to allow the next person on any waitlist to take your spot with enough notice that a spot opened up for them.

*Any No-Shows will be marked as such. After 3 No Shows, you may be asked to leave the group absent compelling reasons for your absences.

*Membership dues for 2021 is $15 annually, paid through the app.

Membership was free for 2020 due to Covid concerns (actually I paid all expenses out of my own pocket) and will be free for a 14-day trial membership in until 1/22/2021 to allow you to browse around to see if we’re a good fit. Thereafter, the annual dues will be charged to cover costs of administering this site and running the Meetup (fees for maintaining the app, site locations, supplies for Meetup events, etc.).

Registration is online and is simple to ensure you never miss out on our next event. Meetup does not allow dues to be paid by cash or check; you must go through the site. This site is closed.  Only trial membership members and those who have paid dues will have access to Meetup particulars. 

Members inactive for 12 months who have never participated in a meetup may be removed (with safety in mind) at the discretion of the Organizer.

Modern Widows Club (MWC) is to women to women mentoring. All ages and stages are welcomed. There is a “gap in the system’ between grief and reconciliation that leaves a formidable widow often on her own, fending for herself as she forges onward seeking to master one of life’s greatest challenges. … This requires a new perspective that can only be found if she has access to positive new connections, communities, skills and knowledge that are meant to champion her to thrive. We are the stage of "What's next?". We focus on getting your power back, realizing your resilience and courage, and more all with the support and encouragement of other widows who understand.
And most importantly we want to enjoy ourselves and have fun.

Join us to learn new ways of cooking and baking as well as explore cultural culinary secrets. There will be great opportunities to learn hands-on new cooking techniques, savor new flavors and meet people who love to prepare and eat all types of food. My good friends and I collectively know just enough to be dangerous in the kitchen.  So whether you don't know jack about cooking or are a master chef, join us for food, fun and friendship.  Some meetups will be geared toward couples, others singles, and the occasional meetup for parents and their children. Some meetups will be in a small group setting, others in large. Hence, a number of different venues exist to meet your diverse cooking needs. 

Even though our first stop this year is Italy, our culinary travels will take us to other places like Mexico, Thailand, France, Japan, United Kingdom, India, Ethiopia, China, Morocco, Spain, and Greece to name a few, sprinkled here and there with American cuisine. For all those who join us at a meetup, recipes will be given for all the dishes we make so you can go home and share what you experienced with your family and friends. If you have suggestions for a meetup, feel free to post a message to the message board!
