Finding Friends--Social Events for Mid-Lifers (PDX Suburbs)

Oregon City, OR

Finding Friends--Social Events for Mid-Lifers (PDX Suburbs)
**WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT** Are you in your 40s, 50s, or 60s and looking to expand your social circle? Perhaps you’re coupled but seeking new friends, or maybe you’re “single and looking.” Either way, look no further! This group is designed to bring people together in fun, low-stress, interactive ways. **Speed-FRIENDING** These free events are hosted by the West Linn Library and give everyone the chance for a brief conversation with everyone else, regardless of gender or relationship status. Knowing everyone’s there for the same reason – to make new friends -- makes it somewhat easier to put yourself out there!  These events are not romantic in nature and you do *not* have to live or work in W.Linn to participate – all who are able and willing to be kind, respectful, and good-natured are welcome including singles, individuals who are partnered, as well as couples looking for friends to socialize with as a couple. **Speed-DATING** These events are geared toward singles, held in public venues in the PDX suburbs, and involve brief one-on-one conversations.  Unlike attending a MeetUp hike or game night hoping to cross paths with other singles, the brilliance of these events is you know everyone there is looking for love.  While there may still be some nervous excitement, that fact has a way of leveling the playing field and reducing anxiety. **MEET'CHA THERE's** Additional events happening in the community will be posted as well, providing added opportunities to get out and meet others.  These are open to those who are single as well as those who are partnered. **INVITATION** Come -- expand your social network, discover new interests, explore new friendships, perhaps find love, and have a *great time* in the process. We can't wait to meet you! **NOTE** The focus of this group and its events is on meeting people, enjoying conversation, and potentially forging new relationships, either platonic or romantic. Please, no youngins and no soliciting.

Meet Your Tribe Adults with ADHD PDX

Portland, OR

Meet Your Tribe Adults with ADHD PDX
Welcome to your tribe!  This is a friendly and inclusive peer to peer  group offering a safe and supportive community for anyone over the age of 18 who has been diagnosed with  or think they may a neuro-divergent brain function identified as ADD/ADHD. (Teens may attend with a parent or guardian.) Meet Your Tribe has been gathering at least once a month since 2017 until present. We don't "fix" anyone, tell anyone what to do or provide medical or psychological  advice. Instead, we share our personal experiences and what's been working for us. We believe we are NORMAL YET DIFFERENT and can best learn from one another how to live a more comfortable and fulfilling life. This group is private to protect its members from stigma and fall-out that often occurs when we reveal our differences outside our immediate circle. Our primary focus is on ADHD/ADD, however, we recognize that our members may often identify as experiencing other neuro-diversity such as Autism, Aspbergers, etc.  While we appreciate the goodwill and expertise of coaches mental health, medical, and other professionals, this group is not an appropriate setting to research or otherwise gather experiential information from the participants. Spouses, partners, family members and friends are welcome to attend  events. We understand that our differences in thinking, behaving and feeling have a significant impact on those we love and spend time with. What we ask is that neuro-typical attendees have a willingness  to listen to understand. We welcome questions about our experiences as long as they are intended to foster mutual understanding.  Please be sensitive to the fact that what works for you, will most likely not work for us. Make Friends with Someone in this Meetup

Portland, OR

Make Friends with Someone in this Meetup
It is a truism that in order to make friends, you have to be a friend. This sounds so simple, but it is a lot more than it sounds. Here is a list of 10 things to help you be a friend: 1. **Enjoy people** – Tell yourself, “I'm going to try to enjoy this conversation.” Loosen up. 2. **Express** – Don't hide who you are. Tell people the first thing you think about. Let them know your thoughts. 3. **Hear them out** – People are sacred. They deserve your full attention and understanding. Take care and take time to hear them out. 4. **Share** – Share your food, share your time, share your money (within reason), share your thoughts and ideas. Be willing to receive things other people share, too. 5. **Find commonalities** – Chances are you can find something in common with everyone you meet. 6. **Take initiative** – Don't wait. Be the person to start a conversation. You have to take the lead sometimes. 7. **Be willing to make mistakes** – Not everyone you meet are good people. It's okay to be hurt by people, as long as you survive to tell the tale. Hey, tell it as a war story to the new friend you make! 8. **Be positive** – No one wants to talk to someone who is negative all the time. It's okay to be hurt; it's okay to have problems, but do you want your hurts and your problems to define who you are? Be who you want to be, which at least is a positive person. 9. **Take responsibility for people** – Take the responsibility to help strangers and acquaintances simply because you know you want to. 10. **Tell them good things you are aware of** – If you know of an amazing sale, tell them. If you know of something really fun, tell them. If you know of a really good place, tell them. Take action! Come to our upcoming free Zoom meetings and put the above tips to practice right away! Remember: In order to make friends, you have to be a friend. Be a friend. Let's start! (Watch the inspiring video below, which is custom made for this meetup group.) This group is created by the Dianetics & Scientology life improvement center to help people improve interpersonal relationships, social life, and make more friends.
