Scranton Area Moms of Munchkins (MOM)

Scranton, PA

Scranton Area Moms of Munchkins (MOM)
Scranton Area Moms of Munchkins (MOMs) is an in-person playgroup for mothers and their children in the greater Scranton area of Northeast Pennsylvania. Our mission is to connect mothers from various backgrounds and provide them an opportunity to meet new people, make playmates for their children and garner support from a diverse group of women. *PLEASE NOTE: If you have requested to join our group, you will be contacted through Meetup Messages. Please be sure to check your messages regularly. We strive to respond to membership requests within 48 hours. If you do not respond to our initial welcome Meetup message within two weeks, your membership will be declined. You can always request to re-join us whenever you are ready! This helps to keep our records current and helps us focus on reaching out to members truly interested in joining our active group of moms! You can always email us any time at scrantonmomsofmunchkins@gmail.com if you have been trying to respond to us via meetup and have been unsuccessful. :)* Welcome to the Scranton Moms of Munchkins (MOMS)! If you are looking to make friends for you and your child, you're in the right place. We are an active, in-person meetup group and we are eager to meet you!  This group is mainly geared for Moms with kids newborn through age 5. Most of our events are held during the week within 15 miles of Scranton. We welcome all types of moms - stay at home, work form home, working full or part time, etc! We also offer Moms Night Outs/Ins, movie nights, and family fun dates. We are here to meet other moms for friendship, advice, laughs, and most of all, support.  We would have to have you join us! What are you waiting for? Click the "join us" button to get started! If you need further information or assistance, please contact Scranton MOMS president, Cadee, at scrantonmomsofmunchkins@gmail.com. **\*\*\* FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS \*\*\*** **Who can join Scranton Area Moms of Munchkins?** We welcome any mother who has the time and desire to attend an active playgroup. The group is geared for SAHM, WAHM and PT working moms with kids ages 7 and under. Currently the group is comprised of primarily infants, toddlers and preschoolers and the majority of activities take place during school hours. **Currently, we do not accept fathers or caregivers to the group as the primary member. We are for moms of little ones ONLY! We do have family events periodically where family members are invited to attend. At this time, Dads, Nannys, Grandparents, etc. can not bring little ones to play dates in place of moms and are not to attend events unless the event is designated a "family event". The group was formed to allow moms an opportunity to develop a support network while providing social interaction for their child(ren).** **How old are the children in your group?** Typically, the littles in our group range from newborn through 7 years old. We do not require you to leave the group when your children are older; however it usually becomes harder for moms to attend meetups when their kids are busy in school and school-related events! **Due to this, we ask that NEW members to the group have children aged 5 or under** (mixed ages in a family are fine! As long as one of your children is 5 or under). **If your child(ren) are ONLY over age 5, your membership request will be declined.** Some of our events are understandably geared to a certain age group (infant playgroup, early walker playdates, etc). The event description on our calendar will designate if their is an intended audience or age range for that specific event. **How do I join you group?** When you request to join our group, please make sure that you have a complete meetup profile, following the instructions provided to you. We require a clear picture of you in the profile, your first and last name, and the names of your little ones/ages. This helps us to identify you at meetups and also ensures the safety of our members and their little ones, so that we know who we are meeting! After you request to join us on meetup, we will contact you via MEETUP MESSAGES. This is a function within meetup. A notification may come to your email, but please check you spam folder. You will then be directed to email us to exchange information and review our policies. After that, we arrange to meet you and your little one(s) at a playdate at a public place. If you wish to join our group, we will then approve you on Meetup and you will have full access to the group website to RSVP for events! You will have a 14-day free trial to try out the group. At the end of your free trial, you will need to pay the annual dues to remain in the group. **Is there a fee to join this group?** Membership Dues are $25 a year, which includes a mom and her children. Dues are required to be paid during the two week trial period if you wish to remain in the group. If you do not pay your dues within this two week time frame, you are moved back to "pending" and then have one week to pay them on Meetup or you will be removed from the group. Dues are renewable every year on your original joining date. Occasionally a playdate will have a fee for attendance (trampoline park, Lakeland orchard etc) but most of the events are completely free. **What types of events does your group schedule?** The group schedules playgroups at local parks and member’s homes, craft days, holiday parties, mom’s nights in/out, family play dates, and more. Organizers are always looking for new ideas and suggestions for future events so feel free to make suggestions! And as soon as you're a member- YOU can host your own events too :) **Where/when do the events take place?** The group meets in Scranton and surrounding areas, typically within a 10/15 mile radius of Scranton. Please be aware of this if you live outside of the greater Scranton area. We have members from Wilkes Barre, The Back Mountain, Tunkhannock and The North Pocono area; just be aware that events are held local to Scranton if driving will affect your attendance. The organizers try to vary the locations, and choose centrally located venues, to allow for greater attendance. The majority of our events occur during the week. We do try and offer a variety of times (both morning and afternoon) to allow for greater flexibility for working moms and those with school age children. **What if I want to host an event at my home?** Fantastic!! We're happy to have playgroups, home parties, and mom’s nights at member's homes! Please contact an organizer to set up an event on our calendar. **What do I do to confirm attendance at an event?** After you have been approved, you will have access to our full calendar of events, within Meetup (please note all event information is housed in Meetup; please visit our website on Meetup or use the Meetup app to attend our events). In order to confirm attendance at an event, you can RSVP “YES” under the specific event you would like to attend. Please feel free to attend as many events as you’d like, but be sure to only RSVP “YES” for events if you are committed to attending. If you aren’t able to attend the event you must change your RSVP to “NO” within 24 hours of the event time. We understand that with children and families, things come up, but in order for the group to be successful we need committed participants. If you must change your RSVP close to the event, you may post on the event page on meetup to let the hosts know you are unable to attend.

Spada Kai Historical Fencing

Jessup, PA

Spada Kai Historical Fencing
Spada Kai Historical Fencing is a HEMA - Historical European Martial Arts - group based in the Scranton, PA area. HEMA is an international martial arts community and so there are many flavors of HEMA club, but what makes HEMA unique from other martial arts systems and communities is the common goal of recreating martial arts based on historical treatises and documents found in Europe, mostly from the 16th to 19th centuries. While some weapons are more popular in HEMA than others (longsword, saber), you can find treatises focusing on many other types of swords, as well as grappling, striking, polearm, sword and buckler, dagger, fighting in and out of armor, on foot or unmounted - the list goes on. The historical aspect of HEMA makes it unique from other martial arts, but it is also similar to other martial arts communities in that a HEMA club with a healthy culture should be warm, welcoming and encouraging, but without sacrificing the competitive spirit of any students who are inclined to compete. If you want to train hard and be challenged, you're in good company. And if you're less interested in competition and just happy to attend class, have fun swinging a sword and make friends, you are equally welcome to train with us without pressure to compete. These two goals are what our club logo represents with the quokka and the honey badger: friendship and community alongside martial excellence and competition. You might love HEMA if: * You love history. * You love martial arts. * You've ever picked up a stick and pretended it was a sword. * You need a physical activity for the sake of fitness, but the ones you've tried out so far were boring. Swordfighting \*cannot\* be boring. * You enjoy self-development and improving a skill over time, and pressure-testing it against other skilled practitioners. * You'd like to be part of a warm, welcoming community made up of people with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. If any of that sounds good to you, contact us. We'd love to meet you! \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- General information and frequently asked questions: Q: What should I bring to a lesson as a first-time attendee? A: We advise athletic clothing so that you can move around unrestricted, as well as your own source of hydration. If we're meeting outside on a warm day, bring more hydration. Q: What is the minimum age for a student? A: We require new students for our regular Sunday meet to be above the age of 12. We are open to teaching younger folks, so let us know if you're interested, but at the moment we don't hold a meet for students 12 and younger. Q: Do I need to bring any fencing equipment though? A: You don't! We have enough loaner gear to equip several beginners for light-to-medium contact drills/sparring, although not enough to fully gear someone up for full-contact sparring or competition - yet. HEMAists usually start out using their club's loaner stash and then build up their own personal set of equipment over time after they've decided to keep at it. Q: Do I need any prior experience? A: No. Q: What? You want my money? A: Yes, unfortunately someone has to pay for all of this, although the first two meets you attend are completely free, or if you opt for private lessons, the first two hours are discounted 50%. Here are our prices at the moment: Single 2-hour outdoor meet: $15 Single 2-hour indoor meet: $20 Private lesson (send us a DM if interested to schedule; outdoor only at the moment): $20/hr Pass to attend all meets during a month: $50 when meeting indoors; $40 when outdoors Q: Is there a waiting list? A: Not at the moment, but we appreciate you signing up as an attendee on our Meetup Event or sending us a message so that we know who to expect.

SacredSelfDiscovering Firewalks

Scranton, PA

SacredSelfDiscovering Firewalks
Greetings! My name is Albert. I am a bus-life, traveling Ceremonialist and IPHM Accred Firewalk Facilitator. This group was formed as a gathering place for those interested in Firewalking or joining one of our Firewalk Ceremonies. Firewalking is an ancient art where people, often times the spiritual leaders of a community, would walk or dance across smoldering hot coal beds without getting burned. This was done for some as a spiritual practice, some performed it for healing or symbolically breaking through limitations, to some it was an initiation, a right-of-passage and others it was a competition. All intentions aside, firewalking has found its place with cultures and communities across the world for centuries. Today, the practice holds more value perhaps than ever as the mental, emotional, spiritual and communal benefits it offers still carry on. Our firewalk ceremony days are filled with empowering, challenging and fun activities intended to prepare us for the walk at night and to enliven our spirits and connect us into the fire of the heart. The firewalk can be a powerful way to challenge ourselves and grow, as symbolically it can represent many obstacles we may be facing. It is also a powerful place to set new intentions for desires we may hold for ourselves and our lives. A firewalk provides a unique opportunity to deepen relationship and connection to the magnificent energy of the fire. We claim our power as we make the choice to walk through the coals and we allow it to help us kindle and tend our inner flame. Events All are welcome. Minors must always be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. In the spirit of reciprocation, 1 tree will be planted for every event ticket purchased.
