Fitness with Friends

Fitness with Friends

Fitness with Friends is for individuals, ages 35 and up, of all fitness levels who are goal-driven and committed to living healthy active lifestyles.  This is a collaborative group, and all members come into the group as event organizers.  Each member is most welcome to host and create small or large group events such as kayaking, zumba, walks, laughing yoga, book discussions, basketball, dancing, cooking healthy, socials, sneaker shopping, weight loss, biking and much much more.  Our goal is to diversify our fitness activities with like-minded friends while building each other up in mind, body, and spirit.   Each member will set his or her goals individually, but our achievements will be celebrated collectively.  There's no end to how we can exercise and celebrate together as friends.  Let's do it!

Fitness With Friends Guidelines

1) Hosting Events:  This is a collaborative group, and every member comes in as an event organizer.  Each member is asked to host events and to support others' events.  No meetup event is too small for our group. When two or more members come together to support each other's fitness dreams, it's an event!

2) Celebrations:  Please let us know when you've reached a personal fitness or health goal, and we'll gladly share in your joy.  Let's party!

3) Profile Pictures:  Please post a recent, identifiable, individual picture of yourself on your profile.  This allows the organizers and members to recognize you at meetup events.  Group shots, old photos, scenic pics or other images will not be permitted.

4) RSVP's:  Please change your RSVP to "NO" if you can't attend an event.  This allows our waiting list people to fill your slot.  No-shows will not be permitted to sign up for subsequent events with limited attendance.

5) Plus 1's:  This option will not be available for our group.  Only members may participate in our events.

6) Home Parties: We require new members to attend a public event before coming to another member's home.  For safety purposes we like to meet you at a public place first.

7)  Event Fees:  If there is an event fee, please be considerate and pay for it - even if something comes up at the time of the event.  Organizers and event hosts occasionally use their personal money to make reservations or bookings and count on attendees' payments for reimbursement.

8) Promoting your Business:  Our primary focus is friendship, however, those who are certified as personal trainers or coaches are most welcome to let the other members know about their services.

9) Members' ages: Many of our members are in their 40's & 50's, and we prefer that the people joining be over 35.

10) Inactivity: Inactive members will be removed from the group every 3 to 6 months.

This group was formed to enhance the lives of widows and widowers. We are a fun group whose lives have drastically changed due to the loss of a loved one. Let me first say this is NOT a dating group. We are an active group that meets regularly. We try to schedule events to suit those who want to be a little active and those who would like more challenging activities. Our group is meant to be inclusive, and we hope that you will recommend and provide your own ideas to enable us to enjoy, laugh and grow. Meetup for Metaphysically Minded People

Stroudsburg, PA

Hey there open-minded people who want to learn and expand your consciousness! We do amazing things at Shooting for the Moon, here in Snydersville, much of it focused on spirituality and holistic development. There are several ways to join so do not worry if you are the only one signed up, there is already an established group of individuals besides this meet up Group and their numbers will not be reflected in the meetUp count. We have a variety of event options for you to partake and enjoy! We have one-day classes, field trips, book readings, guest lectures, arts & crafts sessions, film viewings, special social events, and more. Come as often as you wish or as infrequently as your schedule allows. If you have an interest--to any degree of enthusiasm--in such things as general spirituality, astrology, tarot, cosmic gardening, herbology, and the like, then you'll find a home in our welcoming group. Come and learn and grow with us! Some events are free, some will incur a fee based on what all is involved in putting them together. **Make sure you go over an event's details so you know ahead of time what to expect.** Some quick ground rules: 1. If you RSVP for an event and then wind up not being able to attend, we just ask that you un-RSVP. Many of our events are count specific. 2. Kindness, comfort, and conviviality are a basis for how we run things. Please be kind (but you don't have to rewind). 3. If an event involves an entrance fee, you can pay in person with cash or card. 4. Our meetings hold to a balanced atmosphere of serious learning and fun. Our group's Mission Statement: The goal of Shooting for the Moon Spiritual Development Center is a place where people can grow, and learn to expand their awareness and understanding of others. Education and knowledge is power, fear is what you experience when you don't understand something or someone. By understanding another's spirituality, you can link with that person to form a stronger bond, one that leads both individuals closer to the divine.

Universal Spiritual Community

Stroudsburg, PA

Universal Spiritual Community

Welcome to the Universal Spiritual Community. A community where we recognize that we are all one, where we feel safe and supported. We know the truth, that love is the answer to every question and the resolution to every conflict. We create a space that allows us to step into our greatness by connecting with the Divine. We also create a loving, peaceful space in our surrounding community, by participating in and hosting community outreach events.

Let's get together, in-person, to live, learn and grow together in light and love. We gather every Sunday for prayer, meditation, chanting, manifestation exercises, and spiritual teachings. Afterward we share readings, discussions and communion with each other.

Some of the literature we use for inspiration may include: The Power of Now, Conversations with God, Celestine Prophecies, Ask And It Is Given, The Untethered Soul, The Four Agreements, A Course in Miracles, A Return to Love, The Alchemist, and many more.

We are a growing spiritual community of open-minded people. We all have ideas based on different backgrounds, experiences and religious beliefs. We respect each other's beliefs, differences, viewpoints and values.

We also strongly believe in fostering an environment where we support each other during trying times, and celebrate with each other our individual victories.

We look forward to meeting you and having you become a member of our Soul Family!

With Light and Love Always...

Namaste...

The Pocono Book Club

Stroudsburg, PA

The Pocono Book Club
Yes, book clubs still exist! Yes, you are not the only lit-lover left. Yes, you don't have to live in a major metro area to praise the prose to all who will listen. Bibliophiles, book worms, and casual perusers unite! The Pocono Book Club is the first, the original, the authentic, the largest, and the best literary get-together in the Greater Pocono Mountain region. Since 2015, we've met once a month in a relaxing gastronomic setting to discuss everyone's thoughts on the book-of-the-month. Our two simple criteria are that you enjoy reading and then talking about what you read over good food & drink. Fiction is our mainstay, and we've delved into non-fiction; medium-lengthed is our distance, but we can handle the longer and shorter books; in-person and virtual meetings have both happened. We mix things up from time to time with additional features, including: theater screenings, grab bags, book festivals, and author participation. Your thoughts matter, join a group that will appreciate them in proper bookish fashion. Here’s a sample of what we’ve read over these past 9 fantastic years (and counting): “The Storied Life of AJ Fikry,” by Gabrielle Zevin “Lincoln in the Bardo,” by George Saunders “I am Malala,” by Malala Yousafzai “The Snow Child,” by Eowyn Ivey "The Island of Sea Women," by Lisa See "The Bear and the Nightingale," by Katherine Arden “Killers of the Flower Moon," by David Grann “The Girls of Murder City,” by Douglas Perry "The Secret History," by Donna Tartt "Less," by Andrew Sean Greer “The Martian,” by Andy Weir "Wish You Were Here," by Jodi Picoult “The Library Book,” by Susan Orlean "Sea of Tranquility," by Emily St. John Mandel "The Great Alone," by Kristin Hannah "Hillbilly Elegy," by J.D. Vance “Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald,” by Therese Anne Fowler “Empire Falls,” by Richard Russo "The Couple Next Door," by Shari Lapena "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania," by Erik Larson "The Dutch House," by Ann Patchett "Hour of the Witch," by Chris Bohjalian "The Dry," by Jane Harper Hope to have you join us! Nazareth AND surrounding areas: Empathy Circle

Bath, PA

Nazareth AND surrounding areas: Empathy Circle
Would you like to speak and feel fully heard? Would you like to connect to yourself and others more deeply? Do you want to work on developing your empathy skills? Would you benefit from freely sharing, without the cost of a therapist? Do you want to feel understood? Valued? Excited about your life? Beloved Participants I warmly invite you to the Empathy Circle. In our circle, your well-being matters to us. We understand the importance of being heard, each and every one of us. We're are here to be present for whatever is on your mind and heart. You are not alone; we are here with you. And, I'm hosting these circles at no cost for you. The circles are Free. Our only focus is on being present for you now, in the moment. Your comfort and growth are the priority. We genuinely care about your experiences. Your thoughts and feelings are valuable. We're committed you your emotional journey. Become part of a caring community. You'll find a welcoming and understanding space. Together we foster a culture of compassion. Connect with like-minded individuals who care. Share your thoughts in a nurturing environment. Anyone can attend an Empathy Circle - but the circle is a small group of 5-6 people. The format is simple, and the results for all of us is nothing short of profound. Everyone will get a change to speak for 3-4 minutes. Your listener will reflect just what you have said. No judgment or comments of their own. Just repeating one idea at a time, whatever is on your mind and heart. Once the speaker has had their turn, they then become the listener. We will continue for 40 minutes. “Although our brains are built for positive emotions, one major obstacle gets in our way: Dr. Pert explained that our brain’s functions are hindered by “the thought that we are separate from each other and from the rest of creation.” In other words, if we lack empathy, if we lack this connection to others and the world by separating ourselves emotionally, indeed from creation itself, we interfere with the hardwiring of our brains. Developing empathy for others and self-empathy, and teaching others to do the same, will dramatically improve not only emotional health but physical health as well. Another huge benefit from the Empathy Circle is that it gives our amygdala a pause. The amygdala's role in the brain involves processing emotions, particularly fear and stress responses. After a stressful event, the amygdala can become activated, triggering the "fight or flight" response and releasing stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Chronic stress can lead to heightened sensitivity of the amygdala and a diminished ability to return to a balanced state. Practicing stress management techniques regularly can help improve the brain's resilience to stressors and facilitate a smoother reset process after stressful events. The active listening part of the Empathy Circle calms down the amygdala because you are only focused on returning a description of what the speaker has verbalized. We are not racing around in our brain to figure out what you want to say next, since all the is needed is just a succinct feedback. This is golden. “Empathy for ourselves and others — the emotion connecting us to the world — is a tremendous healing agent." Compassion “turns on” our immune system and improves health dramatically. All positive emotions, studies show, release brain chemicals called endorphins that dull pain and produce pleasure. Each empathy circle is limited to 6 people. Once we grow into a bigger group, I will be expanding. Of course, we agree to use first names only, and confidentially is expected. I have found that it helps me to feel more in the moment, and calms down my mind. Sometimes not even friends or family are available, or capable of being empathic. This resource is as close as you can get to a true friend without any of the drama.
