Fitness with Friends

Fitness with Friends is for individuals, ages 35 and up, of all fitness levels who are goal-driven and committed to living healthy active lifestyles.  This is a collaborative group, and all members come into the group as event organizers.  Each member is most welcome to host and create small or large group events such as kayaking, zumba, walks, laughing yoga, book discussions, basketball, dancing, cooking healthy, socials, sneaker shopping, weight loss, biking and much much more.  Our goal is to diversify our fitness activities with like-minded friends while building each other up in mind, body, and spirit.   Each member will set his or her goals individually, but our achievements will be celebrated collectively.  There's no end to how we can exercise and celebrate together as friends.  Let's do it!

Fitness With Friends Guidelines

1) Hosting Events:  This is a collaborative group, and every member comes in as an event organizer.  Each member is asked to host events and to support others' events.  No meetup event is too small for our group. When two or more members come together to support each other's fitness dreams, it's an event!

2) Celebrations:  Please let us know when you've reached a personal fitness or health goal, and we'll gladly share in your joy.  Let's party!

3) Profile Pictures:  Please post a recent, identifiable, individual picture of yourself on your profile.  This allows the organizers and members to recognize you at meetup events.  Group shots, old photos, scenic pics or other images will not be permitted.

4) RSVP's:  Please change your RSVP to "NO" if you can't attend an event.  This allows our waiting list people to fill your slot.  No-shows will not be permitted to sign up for subsequent events with limited attendance.

5) Plus 1's:  This option will not be available for our group.  Only members may participate in our events.

6) Home Parties: We require new members to attend a public event before coming to another member's home.  For safety purposes we like to meet you at a public place first.

7)  Event Fees:  If there is an event fee, please be considerate and pay for it - even if something comes up at the time of the event.  Organizers and event hosts occasionally use their personal money to make reservations or bookings and count on attendees' payments for reimbursement.

8) Promoting your Business:  Our primary focus is friendship, however, those who are certified as personal trainers or coaches are most welcome to let the other members know about their services.

9) Members' ages: Many of our members are in their 40's & 50's, and we prefer that the people joining be over 35.

10) Inactivity: Inactive members will be removed from the group every 3 to 6 months.

On most occasions, tables and seats will be reserved, at the venues for our indoor gatherings. This is done so that we can all be together, and enjoy ourselves.  If it becomes necessary to change your RSVP, please make your intentions known, no later than noon, the day before the event.  Otherwise, a seat will be waiting for you.  Thank you for extending your consideration to the hosts, and the establishments, that work hard to make us feel welcome! By signing up as a member of the group, and/or attending any group event, you and your guests fully assume all risks associated with such participation, including travel to and from the event, and alcohol consumption at the event.  You agree to be responsible for your own safety, and equipment, (if applicable). You and your successors agree to hold all Organizers, and other group members, harmless in the event of injury or death, including any matter associated with alcohol consumption.

Moving Forward with Friends Group Guidelines

1) Profile Pictures: Please post a recent, identifiable, single picture of yourself on your profile. This allows the organizers and members to recognize you at meetup events. Group shots, old photos, scenic pics or other images will not be permitted.

2) RSVP's: Please change your RSVP to "NO" if you can't attend an event. This allows our waiting list people to fill your slot. Our events are popular, and we would like everyone to have a chance to enjoy them. No-shows will not be permitted to sign up for subsequent events with limited attendance.

3) Wait lists: Please know, if you are on the wait list , there is a good chance you will be able to come to an event. Meetup automatically changes your RSVP to "Yes" when a spot becomes available.

4). Plus 1's: This option is not available for our home parties and other events with limited space, like Coed Conversion. Your friends are most welcome to join us at the other events, but we still encourage them to join MFWF's.

3) Home Parties: We require new members to attend a public event before coming to another member's home. For safety purposes we like to meet you at a public place first.

4) Event Fees: If there is an event fee, please be considerate and pay for it - even if something comes up at the time of the event. Organizers and event hosts occasionally use their personal money to make reservations or bookings and count on attendees' payments for reimbursement.

5) Slander: Members and organizers of MFWF's are going through difficult transitions, and we want this to be a safe group to come to for enjoyment and support. Please do not hurt anyone with gossip or harsh words. If you have a concern, we ask that you email the individual member instead of writing it in the conversation box for everyone to see.

6) Alcohol Consumption: Please keep your drinking within safe and legal limits while at an event.

7) Personal Information: For your safety, we strongly suggest limiting sharing personal information online. If you can not attend an event, changing your RSVP to "No" is sufficient. We also suggest refraining from posting your last name. Initials are fine.

8)  Members undergoing Divorce: This is a highly stressful time in the lives of our members and we would like our Meetup group to be a safe and peaceful way to make new friends and  to recover.  We ask that only one spouse join MFWF's during the divorce process.

9) Relationships: We sincerely ask that our members respect people who are dating, as a couple, and refrain from interfering in their relationships.

10) Group Reputation:  It is important to maintain a good relationship with the establishments we frequent.  Please conduct yourself respectfully and tip fairly.

Here's to moving forward with friendship, integrity and safety!

PA Restart: Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, Kayaking

Palmerton, PA

PA Restart: Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, Kayaking
This group is for folks 40+ who are new or are returning to hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and camping. Absolutely no experience is required, and all hikes are easy to moderate.  Our hope is to foster a love of nature, a passion for being outdoors, and a spirit of camaraderie with like minded friends.  This isn't a "singles" group; we welcome married, single, partnered folks and we celebrate diversity by being open and accepting to persons of diverse backgrounds. Please check the rating for each event listed.  If you are a fast hiker (a "rabbit"), you will hike up front at your own pace.  If you are an average/moderate hiker (a "turbit"), you will hike in the middle of the pack at your own pace.  If you are a slower hiker (a "turtle"), you will hike in the back at your own pace with the hike leader.  **Some hikes are only designed for turtles.**  If you are a Turbit or Rabbit, you may get frustrated by the slow pace.  **Some hikes are designed for Turbits and Rabbits; please don't sign up for those if you are a Turtle.**  Check the listing, ask the hike leader, and be honest about your ability. We are volunteers and are not liable for your health, poor planning, accidents, or, yikes, death.  By hiking with us, you agree you are in control of your abilities.  Hike leaders may ask you to sign a release waiver, but, even if they don't, registering for the hike means you are releasing the event leader and MeetUp from all liability, including injury and death. Attendance is important in case of emergencies on an adventure. Being a "no-show" means that another person couldn't attend.  3 "no-shows" will result in being removed from the group. Hike Leaders: \*\*We are always looking for hike leaders.  Please email Beth if you are interested! Beth "Squeak" RG is the hike leader for "Turtle" hikes.  She is a long distance backpacker on the Appalachian Trail, a Girl Scout Leader & Outdoor Adventures trainer, bagpiper, and the creator/organizer/leader for PA Restart and Palmerton Outdoors.  Previously, when she lived in NJ, she was the CO of Restart New Jersey for 10 years. She is a member of the ATC, AMC, Sierra Club and is a past Board member of the Appalachian Long Distance Hiker Association. She serves as an Outdoor Leadership Trainer for the Girl Scouts of Eastern PA and volunteers yearly at Harriman State Park. She has a passion for getting "unlikely" hikers out onto the trail.  Her hikes are always designed with new hikers in mind. Her hikes tend to be short (\~ 3 miles) and are reasonably flat with smaller inclines.  She also offers backpacking, camping, snowshoeing, and flat and Class 1 Rapid paddle kayak activities. Heather O. is the hike leader for "Turbit" and "Rabbit" hikes.  She has hiked and backpacked all over the world.  Her hikes tend to be a little longer and rugged, but well worth the effort!  She also maintains the attendance rosters for hikes. There are other hiker leaders that volunteer to lead events. Please read their descriptions carefully :-)
