Are you looking to meet some new friends and have some new kinds of fun? Do you like to eat? Dance? Play games? Drink? Play trivia and watch movies, etc? This may be the group for you!

West-Side Friends is a great way to get together with other people who love to have awesome social events and activities. We get together to play board games, we do charades, we eat out, we dance the night away, and we also play trivia. We socialize both in our homes and outside at restaurants, parks, movie theaters and a variety  of public spaces. West-Side Friends is a diverse, fun group for people of varied ages, tastes, backgrounds and interests.

Joining a Meetup group is easy to do. Going to your first Meetup event, especially if you do so alone, might not be so easy. The members of West-Side Friends want you to know that we are a friendly, diverse, and welcoming group of people who share a love of friends and fun. Let us know you are coming, and we will look for you. We highly encourage you to post a photo - posting your photo makes it easier for us to find you, but it is not mandatory.

Our events are hosted by group members who are all volunteers. We welcome your thoughts and  suggestions, and we encourage you to share them with us. Of course we always appreciate your help! If you have a great idea, feel free to host a meetup or contact an Organizer to help you get started. Everyone is welcome here.

DUES:
We collect a $6.00 annual due. We offer an alternative method of payment, not through the meetup app, whereby the cost is $5.00 annually. New members have a 30 day trial period to decide if they want to join and become a member. You are welcome to bring a guest with you one time - - after that if your same guest wants to join in on the activities, they need to become a member.

NO-SHOW POLICY:
We have a no-show policy for our events and activities. In our group anyone is welcome to host an event. For those who are attending an event, it is very important to check your schedule and un-RSVP from an event if your plans change. If you do not show up to an event for which you are signed up, or if you cancel after RSVPs are closed, you will be marked as a ”no-show”. You will be allowed three “no-shows,” after which point you will be kept on a waiting list for all events for a year. If spaces open up on the day of an event, you may be moved into that event. But no-shows will not be overlooked. West-Side Friends is a group that welcomes everyone, and we do not like to be strict. But it is embarrassing to have an event at a restaurant and only have 12 people show up when 20 signed up.

This is a group of single adults venturing into their 50's and beyond with a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds.

Our vision is to make new friends while enjoying the many different venues and events the Houston area has to offer.

Participate, but step forward to host an occasional event! It's easy - just ask.  That is why this group zooms - the great members who care and share!

You must be Age 50 or older

You must be Single

You must post a recent photo and complete the brief profile

You must have access to the website so you can be up-to-date on group activities and details as well as adding your RSVP to an event.  Things happen, but it is not OK to repeatedly RSVP and no-show.

Most events are scheduled in the Katy and surrounding areas with some excursions, day trips, and festivals in the surrounding cities.

A Picture/Headshot is required to join the Group as well as to maintain Membership in the group.  The picture must show your face, pictures of children, landscapes, etc. are not acceptable.

This is the Houston Chapter of the group Kat Burson brought together in Minnesota during her 6+ years there. Minneapolis Paranormal Research Society or MPRS. They currently have over 1200 members at this time!

Due to a traumatic spinal injury, I relocated to be near my support group of family and friends in the Houston area in June of 2014. Beginning July 12, 2014 the first Meet Up of HPRS was held with paranormal topics and investigations being the focus.

We have found ways to meet the needs of many without limiting membership. This was and will always be a challenge but the benefits outweigh the struggles. HPRS will allow members with access to reportedly active sites, an opportunity to investigate with an experienced team simply by bringing the investigation to the group or building a relationship with the team through monthly meet up attendance. As time has gone on, a core team  or several core teams have developed as well as new and Co Organizers.  Kat moved to be closer to her family and friends on the west coast, where she is originally from, and has over the past year (2018) held events when she has traveled back or remotely through a co-organizer. 

Kat will still be in touch with her group as she has many close and wonderful friends here in Houston; so essentially she still is and will be an active member as time allows.  But to keep this group true to its founding, Jae Emery is taking reigns of 'the mother ship' HPRS.  We will again have regularly scheduled monthly meetings.  

We will also have workshops as Jae has become over the past several years a very proficient tarot reader and is an empath/intuitive.  Other team members will also be tasked with helping hold informative workshops in addition to our monthly meetings and investigations.

We will hold "field trip" style investigations where many can attend. Most investigations require 4 to 9 team members. In addition, there will be a monthly meet up where we will discuss past investigations, up coming investigations, new equipment and techniques. With the last half reserved for discussing the paranormal experiences of our members.

Check the site for meet up dates. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss personal experiences, get feedback from others and grow in our understanding through sharing of those experiences.

As the new facilitator of this group I feel a huge responsibility to ensure that we continue to grow, learn and share experiences and benefit from each others knowledge and expertise. This has always been a very open, caring, compassionate and fun group - and we will continue to embrace the ideals which have made this groups what it is today in 2019!
