Green Mountain Club Burlington Section Outdoor Adventures

Waterbury Center, VT

Green Mountain Club Burlington Section Outdoor Adventures
Welcome to the ***Green Mountain Club Burlington Section Outdoors Adventures*** Meetup Group. This group is sponsored and managed by the Burlington Section of the GMC. You don't have to be a GMC member to join this group or go on any GMC outing! All are welcome. And all GMC members are welcome to lead trips. The GMC makes every effort to keep all on our trips happy and safe. Our leaders are enthusiastic volunteers but are not professional guides. Every person participating should be aware of the inherent risks in outdoor activities and of their own capabilities. All are responsible for their own safety. Minors must be accompanied by parents on these trips. GMC Membership: Some of our trip leaders don't like to use meetup, so go to our gmcburlington.org website [events tab](https://gmcburlington.org/events/) to see a more complete list of our trips. Some outings listed here may give a meeting time and place. But others may require you to check with the trip leader first. This is so the leader can make sure you are prepared for the outing, and so the leader can manage the number of participants. Become a trip leader! There is no formal training and the only requirement is that you are a GMC member. Most learn by watching others and you can volunteer to co-lead hikes if you are not ready to fly solo. Most of us learn by observing and doing. We have an excellent trip leaders guide that can help. Contact meetup group manager David Hathaway (david.hathaway.78@gmail.com) if you'd like to become a trip leader, or to become a meetup event organizer (to post trips here). Please see the membership tab at greenmountainclub.org for more about joining the GMC. The mission of the Green Mountain Club is to make the Vermont mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail System and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont’s hiking trails and mountains. Joining is a way of showing your support for the important stewardship role the GMC has. In 1971, the Vermont Legislature passed a resolution, recognizing the Club as “the founder, sponsor, defender, and protector” of the Long Trail System and delegating to it responsibility for developing policies and programs for “the preservation, maintenance, and proper use of hiking trails for the benefit of the people of Vermont.” By joining the GMC, you are joining the preservation of hiking in Vermont.

Green Mountain Writers Group | ZOOM

Underhill, VT

Green Mountain Writers Group | ZOOM
Writers collaborating to improve their skills through workshops and learning events... • **WORKSHOPS:** Join with other writers from around the blue planet on Zoom as we discuss and work to perfect our writing every Friday morning, open to any genre: fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, nonfiction, memoir, flash, poetry, or screenplay. Stephen Kastner encourages emerging writers to join the Friday Open Genre Workshop for engaging MFA style discussions with a small, private and select tribe of writers willing to read and review each other's work in a creative test bed. We host the Poetry and Performance workshop with Darlene Witte on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month • **PUBLICATIONS:** The **[Green Mountain Writers Group](https://greenmountainwriters.com/)** (GMWG) publishes a website TO facilitate our workshop events, and an online journal featuring works developed by our workshop participants. In 2023, we released our first print publication, a compilation of GMWB Members' poems, *Poetry & Performance – Volume 1*. **NOW TWO FLAVORS OF GMWG:** I just acquired the former Burlington Writers Workshop Meetup Group after Peter Bielo recently abandoned it. After more than two years of no activity, I have the chance to rebuild and restore our group. There are 2,734 existing members. I plan to restore live meetings in person, in the city, that we sadly lost when COVID struck three years ago. I changed our Meetup name to **Green Mountain Writers Group \| LIVE** ([https://www.meetup.com/burlington-writers](https://www.meetup.com/burlington-writers?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1Qfh4KK8WMsGig-WMb4ri0BRJx3m-Kz1Lr7Yk3ox-96LCSCye5w1tU3Rk_aem_8UFyk3K7avFv0n5fDX8xHw)). I also lead the **Green Mountain Writers Group \| ZOOM** that I founded on Meetup in 2021 at [https://www.meetup.com/green-mountain-writers/](https://www.meetup.com/green-mountain-writers/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2B8lhKi2Xhc54wQGYLUpaJ53dNfEjs7CA7b6pdhPRlsRGdT9pZ7rqkufY_aem_VP5oasz9g-pqP6ZSDbp1bQ) to host our 760 members from all across the USA and internationally with meetings on Zoom. About the founder: **Stephen Kastner:** Since 1997, I have been an independent consultant at DesignWise Studios. I began a visual artist in painting and photography. In the 80s I worked as a professional photo-journalist for the NYT papers in Florida. In 2006, I lived in Yunnan, China and spent 6 months as a filmmaker while designing the curriculum for what was to became the top-rated Chinese Culture Spa on TripAdvisor, the Linden Centre. Now, I employ writing, digital photography, videography, graphic design, and networked media to create all varieties of digital storytelling and I coach authors on self-publishing.

Ladies Social Group

Essex Junction, VT

Ladies Social Group
I know, our name may sound stuffy, but I promise we are anything but... Our motto is "Come for friends, find sisters" for a reason... That is what happens here... So if you are new to the area or are going through a major transition in your life (think divorce, empty nesting or just need an uplevel of friends) and looking for a female only support system, we've got you. My name is Celeste Hartwell, and this group is my entire heart... Our purpose is to help women connect to new friends, form lasting friendships and have fun in the process. Making friends as an adult can be difficult...I know. In addition to moving to three different school districts as a child and having to continually start over, I have also had 5 major relocations as an adult. Each one leaving me with little to zero support system and learning each time how to rebuild better than the last time. So whether you're new to the area or have lived here all your life, if you're looking for a safe environment to find deep and meaningful connections, this is the group for you. No matter your age, stage in life, we want to meet you and learn more about you. Our events will include an array of activities from potlucks to book club, workshops to craft nights. Some things will include an investment of time and energy and others will have slight costs associated with them. You are welcome to come to what feels best to you and leave the rest. **We do shit ladies like to do.** Come for friends, find sisters. We're happy you're here and we look forward to meeting you at an event soon!
