A group for anyone who has a relationship or connection to individuals with challenges that could include special needs.
We enjoy the perspective and intelligence people with challenges offer and we formally think of them as part of the community, are families and friends.
We all have unique needs and challenges, so we encourage everyone to refer to "Special Needs" as :
Unique Needs Individuals or "Individuals with Challenges"
As their champions, mentors, supportive roommate or community specialist, advisor, or guide you work hard to create a life for these individuals worth living.
Whether your special connection is through family as an aide or a friend of someone with challenges, as a mentor YOU are valuable here in this community.
Global health needs are not just about supporting international communities that are vulnerable or at risk, it can be these groups in our backyard's as well.
In this regard, we should be accountable to creating spaces where our loved one's, family members or friends can realize their potential.
We should be stewards of choice, self-determination, self-efficacy, equality, openness, transparency (as much as what we feel we can be) and accessibility.
This meetup will facilitate connections with others in the field, opportunities for networking, learning from your peers and hands-on through the odd workshop.
We are all leaders in our own journey. I will guide but encourage all of you to submit suggestions and become "co-leaders".
