COLLIDE: Tech, Sci, Arts, Culture and... - Northampton

Northampton, MA

COLLIDE: Tech, Sci, Arts, Culture and... - Northampton
This group is for those interested in multidisciplinary networking and collaboration. Taking inspiration from The Medici Effect\*, The Renaissance, and even such creative collaborations as Burning Man--**how can those of us the intersection of technology, science, arts, culture, philosophy, business, etc., amplify innovation and create new ways of thinking, behaving, expressing and living?**     We will also explore questions around the evolving edge of science and technology and their contributions to improving our collective knowledge and experience. How can they best serve us and the planet?    This group will meet to network, discuss, and brainstorm ideas, projects, and possibilities.     All are welcome.    \*Frans Johansson’s The Medici Effect shows how breakthrough ideas most often occur when we bring concepts from one field into new, unfamiliar territory; it offers examples of how we can turn the ideas we discover into path-breaking innovations.      "When you bring together diverse teams and perspectives, you have the ability to create an exponential increase in ideas....Diverse teams create far more ideas than homogenous teams" -Frans Johansson    **ABOUT US!**   Started in 2012 by Trish Blain, this meetup is one of the local pathway groups of NonOrdinary Society ([http://www.nonordinary.com](http://www.nonordinary.com/)) that offers new paradigm training and community for lovers of life and evolving edge facilitators and leaders. See a list of our groups HERE. ([http://www.nonordinary.com/meetups](http://www.nonordinary.com/meetups))      If you have questions or would like to be a partner with us, contact Trish at [trish@nonordinary.com](mailto:trish@nonordinary.com).     **Our Meetup History**   We have found that meetup attracts the kind of people we love — curious, passionate, renaissance creatives that care about the world and community. Before the pandemic, we held over 300 events and expanded into 7 cities based on partnership requests. Organized into eight "Pathways" of compelling topics, we were having a blast experimenting and growing our meetup network to over 50,000 subscribers.     **Our Meetup Groups in 2023**    We are excited to be offering meetup events again as ‘drop-in community’ experiences. They are a great way to get a low-risk introduction to NonOrdinary and to meet each other! Our Meetups are public events and are also listed in our Facebook group and on Eventbrite.      **Cultivating Community**    Skilled community is more important than ever; while we can offer ‘drop-in’ events through Meetup, we believe cultivating skills together over time is required to have a sustainable, rich, and productive community of badass collaborators. This requires a different container than Meetup.com can offer, which is why we are hosting our training community, NonOrdinary Society, on our own platform. You can learn more at NonOrdinary.com.

Also, some fun social networking and optional jumping jacks. **Difficulty level** of hikes will vary throughout the hiking season, though please note focus of group is hiking not walking. See below for more details and link to hike calculator. [http://www.nwhiker.com/HikeEval.html](http://www.nwhiker.com/HikeEval.html) **Hiker Responsibility Code** is a set of principles that all hikers can look to before they hit the trail. It also acknowledges the inherent danger of hiking in the back country and encourages hikers to be better prepared every time they are on the trail. You are responsible for yourself, so be prepared: **Hiker Responsibility Code** [http://www.hikesafe.com](http://www.hikesafe.com) You are responsible for yourself, so be prepared: 1. **With knowledge and gear**. Become self-reliant by learning about the terrain, conditions, local weather and your equipment before you start. 2. **To leave your plans**. Tell someone where you are going, the trails you are hiking, when you will return and your emergency plans. 3. **To stay together.** When you start as a group, hike as a group, end as a group. Pace your hike to the slowest person. Take breaks as a group. 4. **To turn back.** Weather changes quickly in the mountains. Fatigue and unexpected conditions can also affect your hike. Know your limitations and when to postpone your hike. The mountains will be there another day. 5. **For emergencies.** Even if you are headed out for just an hour, an injury, severe weather or a wrong turn could become life threatening. Don’t assume you will be rescued; know how to rescue yourself. 6\. To share the hiker code with others\. **Pets are permitted:** Must be on a 10-foot maximum leash and attended at all times. Must have proof of current Rabies vaccine. Please be courteous and clean up after your pet. If carpooling is required for posted hike then dogs are not permitted. UTOPIA of Utopias - Northampton
This is a group for **practical idealists to share ideas, skills, and resources…a place to vision, debate and collaborate.** Let's have conversations that have never happened before! Let's enjoy the process and each other.      We gather to be in a diverse group of creative, positive people who truly embrace the gift of different perspectives and are excited to cross-pollinate.    If you ask 100 people, "What does a better world look like?”, you're going to get 100 different answers. How can we help each other create the lives we want while also creating a viable, collective vision for a future that includes us all? We think of it as creating a utopia of utopias, where our versions enhance each other. We offer a framework that helps align us with each other so we can create the lives and world we know in our bones is possible.      Types of Meetups:      We will host facilitated groups, workshops and events with guest speakers. These will have varied costs depending on the event.      Some topics we explore include: * How do we align and collaborate with each other? * Aligning with nature, deep ecology * Redefining utopia, finding a common vision * Embracing alternate views in order to create something even better * Permaculture, hydroponics and innovative food cultivation * Homesteading and urban gardening * Food security, slow food, healthy food production * Innovative architecture, tiny houses, design * Deep ecology, living systems, earth-based spirituality * Personal and cultural beliefs about money * New ways of exchange, conscious money * Community organizing, social capital, community building * Antifragility, technology in harmony with humans and earth * Alternative energy * Conscious parenting, eldering, rites of passage, ancestors ___________________________________________________________________________________________    **You don’t want a better world…**  You want your own utopia. Doctor Who & BBC Fans of Western MA

Northampton, MA

Doctor Who & BBC Fans of Western MA

We meet to watch episodes, cosplay, potlucks, picnics, attend conventions, present discussion panels at conventions, produce Into the Time Vortex Podcast in conjunction with Gallifreyan Gazette. note: If you live in Central Massachusetts, please check out our sister group, Doctor Who Fan Club of Central MA.

Doctor Who and his companions travel through space and time in the Tardis, having many great adventures. It's listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running science fiction series. The classic series ran from 1963-1989 and the new series has run from 2005-present. In addition to the regular TV series, there have been spin-offs, a cartoon version, radio plays, books, toys and all manner of related merchandise, movies, a magazine, live events, computer games, and non-computer role-playing games.

"Dr." v. "Doctor" is generally the form used for Doctor Who used by BBC. However, at times the shortened form has been used. We use the shortened version of the word in the name of our group, because the url name was available, as well as vanity names on social networking sites that we are on.

What is this group about? We watch episodes and bandy about various theories, run panel discussions at fan conventions, have picnics, potlucks, field trips, and other geeky activities.

Do I need to be all caught up to join or attend meetings? No, people are at a wide variety of levels.

What ages and genders are welcome? All genders. Ages 18+ unless with parent/guardian. Most are 20s-40s.

Do you watch Classic or New Who? Both.

Who played The Doctor? 1 William Hartnell, 2 Patrick Troughton, 3 Jon Pertwee, 4 Tom Baker, 5 Peter Davison, 6 Colin Baker, 7 Sylvester McCoy, 8 Paul McGann, 9 Christopher Eccleston, 10 David Tennant, 11 Matt Smith, 12 Peter Capaldi

Who are some of his enemies? Monsters and enemies: Cyberman, The Master, Daleks, Ood, Silurians

Who are some of his companions? Sarah Jane Smith, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song, K-9

Do you watch other shows? Yes, a lot of us are fans of other series like Torchwood, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Misfits, Red Dwarf and other BBC Series, so we mix those in at times.

Does it cost to join? There is a free trial. After that, dues are just $5 a year! It allows you to RSVP for events and it the funds take care of the fees that meetup.com charges the head organizer.

Requirements? This group is about meeting people and creating community. Please include a picture of you in your profile and your full name. This helps us to recognize each other at the events.

RSVP If you respond that you are going to an event but can't come, please change your RSVP to no as soon as possible. New members who no show to the first event they RSVPd to will be removed right away. Generally two no shows (ie: you have RSVPd yes but don't show up) is enough to be removed from the group. Late or frequent cancellations are about half as bad.

Harassment: Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

EROS: Exploring Love, Sex and Soul - Northampton

Northampton, MA

EROS: Exploring Love, Sex and Soul - Northampton
The Eros meetup is for **passionate lovers of all kinds that are interested in sharing and learning about love, sexuality, relationships, and the ecstatic, creating more connection and capacity for enjoyment.**     This group will be exploring a wide range of topics in personal and broader societal and cultural contexts. Please be comfortable with explicit sexual language (hard to talk about these topics otherwise).     You are welcome if you are single, a couple or poly…we welcome any relationship status, denomination, sexual orientation, gender identity and lifestyle.      Here are some sample of the kinds of topics we explore:      * How to get what you want in relationships  * Ecstatic sexuality and states of consciousness  * What makes sex “mind-blowing”?  * New paradigm, next level relationships  * How to constantly fall in love with your partner  * How not to lose yourself in relationship  * How to flirt without being creepy  * Healing trauma through relationships and sexuality  * Transforming conflict in relationships  * Cultivating and channeling sexual energy  * Ethical nonmonogamy   * How to enjoy your body and increase pleasure of all types  * Cultivating desire and passion  * Exploring taboos, morality & ethics    You might be asking…is this about “hooking up”? (Do people still call it that? 😉) Just like any other social setting, there is always the potential for meeting someone you click with. I met my husband in this very meetup group! However, the spirit of this group is learning in an open, playful, respectful environment – not a hookup space. Please do not reach out to people you have not yet met; you will be removed from the group if you do. And no pics – you know what I mean!      _________________________________________________________________________   **You don’t want a relationship…**  You want a soul partner. Not a romanticized cliché, but rather someone who challenges you to be a better version of yourself. A partner who is willing to open deeply, reveal themselves and really KNOW you. Someone who encourages your uniqueness and remembers who you really are even when you can’t.      **You don’t want to get laid…**   You want mind-blowing sex, to be broken open, and stretched at the edge of your capacity for love, pleasure, and the divine.   (Quoted from the [NonOrdinary Manifesto.](https://nonordinary.com/manifesto/))   ________________________________________________________________________________      **ABOUT US!**   Started in 2012 by Trish Blain, this meetup is one of the local pathway groups of NonOrdinary Society ([http://www.nonordinary.com](http://www.nonordinary.com/)) that offers new paradigm training and community for lovers of life and evolving edge facilitators and leaders.
