Tri-Cities Hiking Club

Maple Ridge, BC

Tri-Cities Hiking Club

Welcome to the Tri-Cities Hiking Club (formerly the Maple Ridge Hiking Group).

This club is focused on creating adventures for outdoor enthusiasts . Although the name suggests a focus on the Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody area, and indeed we will be posting a number of hikes in the Bunzten Lake, Burke Mountain, North Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Mission area, but we will often look for exciting trails farther afield, up to Whistler and beyond or Chilliwack, Hope Manning Park, etc..

We will are also  planning to schedule a lot more Canoe and Kayak events.

Because I want to make this club a valuable resource for outdoor enthusiasts, we am very open to suggestions for hiking locations and/or related outdoor activities. Please feel free to post in the forum event ideas or drop the organizers a personal note. In that regard we are also looking for a few other good organizers so we always have a number of exciting activities scheduled. If you think you would like to take on a role like that, please contact Randy to talk about it.

DOG POLICY

I generally make a comment of hikes whether dogs are welcome. I post some of the hikes as dog friendly and some specifically as "please bring your dog".  On the more advanced hikes I usually mention if scrambling is required and whether I think dogs can make it.

My basic policy on dogs (and people) is if they are well behaved they are welcome.
If they cause trouble, chase the wildlife, or as happened in one case eats someone's lunch I may not invite them back.

If the hike is appropriate for dogs, feel free to bring your puppy, and if you’re well behaved I will ask the dog to bring you back another time.

BC Valley Sisterhood (aka 50+ Women in their 50s)

Surrey, BC

BC Valley Sisterhood (aka 50+ Women in their 50s)
Thank you for your interest in this Sisterhood. The purpose of this group is to become close friends with other women in our age group (@50-65) and grow up together, have fun on the way, learn from each other, share resources, and support each other personally and professionally in a safe environment, therefore preventing poverty and mental illness associated with aging. **Please, read and agree to our GOLDEN GUIDELINES below.** This group is small, private, inclusive, and welcoming to all kinds of women, especially those that want to be themselves and/or reinvent themselves at this time in their lives. The membership is limited (<100) to promote true connections and friendship through personal interactions doing all kinds of fun and interesting things. Click on PAST EVENTS for previous activities with pictures. Active Living & Laughing, Love, Peace & Compassion is what you find here! Together we enjoy lively social meetups every week, as well as bi-weekly gatherings in calmer settings for an opportunity to discuss topics of interest. In Talking Circles we share personal experiences, resources, and advice (SES Program). You can introduce your business, a charity or any other good cause you like to support or ask for help for yourself. We attend comedy shows, theater, and concert performances. We try different restaurants and dance to live music almost weekly at different venues from Langley to Burnaby. Besides for live bands or karaoke, we also get together in pubs for brunch or dinner, and/or to play pool, darts, dice, and table games. In addition we go walking, bicycling, skating, bowling, shopping, drumming, and swimming. In the summer we play golf and mini golf, go camping, have a picnic, and attend outdoor concerts and festivals. Occasionally we are politically and environmentally engaged, planting trees, going to fairs, attending marches or organizing fundraisers, clothing exchanges, and special events. Our potlucks at the 'Clubhouses' (private residences) are especially popular, and so are art classes. We enjoy sharing stories sitting around a camp fire and even started weekend getaways together. We can post any indoor and outdoor activity or road trip anyone is interested in. Every member is encouraged to organize or host an event online or in person, large or small with (un)limited attendees in private or in public. Seems at our age many Sisters are still busy during the workweek, but remember to make more time for yourself to stay fit and healthy for as long as possible. A support system and active social life with lots of laughter is essential in that. ***Golden Guidelines for ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP:***   *1.) You are a 50-65 years old female and live locally in the lower mainland of British Columbia. Our events are primarily held from Langley/Surrey to New West., PoCo, and Burnaby, with occasional activities in Vancouver and other surrounding areas. You are responsible for your own transportation, but we car pool often.*   *2.) You post a clear and recent picture of ONLY your FACE without sunglasses or filters, so we can recognize each other. The picture can be changed for each group you belong to by going to the groups homepage, select YOU'RE A MEMBER, then PROFILE and CHANGE PHOTO for that group only, not your main profile.* *3.) You enable your notifications for this Sisterhood and check the calendar often/preferably weekly. Some upcoming events are posted but will not be announced till a couple of weeks before the event date.* *Tip for new members: Click PASSED EVENTS and check out pictures and what we have done so far.* *4.) You RSVP for events and keep them current; avoid last minute cancellations, especially if reservations or tickets are involved. Add guests in the RSVP count. Please, also check before each event you attend for changes or cancellations due to weather, for example.* *5.) You attend events at least 3-4 times a year, better of course weekly or monthly to really build close friendships. Whenever possible try to participate in our bi-weekly SES (Social, Emotional, Spiritual) Program with Talking Circles, education, exercises, and activities. We share personal experiences and resources.* *6.) You contribute financially to pay for the Meetup platform and misc. items needed to put on events. For 2024 the membership fee is $ 60.00 CASH ONLY (please NO e-transfers, non-refundable for 2024), due by 31 March 2024 or within 3 months of membership. Event Organizers receive discounts of up to $ 30.00 and Clubhouse owners enjoy a free membership. Two free public events ok for new members!*   *7.) You agree to attend a couple events in public settings and pay your membership before an invite to “Clubhouses” (private residences), the SES Program, and our private Facebook page is extended. Facebook offers a better opportunity for members to share ideas and to coordinate smaller get-togethers.* *8.) You respond to personal emails and text messages from me, your organizer and friend Uli. Of course, you should extend that courtesy to your other Soul Sisters as well.* *9.) You are yourself, have fun, give and receive support, and stay in touch. Naturally, we expect you to be respectful, kind and considerate towards your Soul Sisters at all times. There is zero tolerance for aggressive behavior, repeated No-shows, or use of heavy street drugs.* *10.) You attend all events at your own risk. Organizers care deeply, but are NOT responsible for you in any way. You understand and agree to this when you RSVP for events.*   If these simple guidelines are impossible to follow, it is my hope that you at least communicate with me and let me know what is preventing you from being more involved. In case you are removed due to inactivity after 3 months, you may rejoin once time and interests align with this Sisterhood.   Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. There have been website glitches with Meetup, so please inform me of mistakes or if you have trouble navigating the site.     I am here for you with an open heart, mind, and arms and so are your Soul Sisters. Welcome!   YOURS TRULY ULI 778-512-4200

Burnaby Elite Hikers

This is a small group of intermediate hikers who enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, camping, and scrambling. Beginners are welcome as you can learn from the more experienced members. I started this group as I like to venture into the outdoors with a small group of regulars who are at similar levels of outdoor experience. (maximum members count for the club is 50)

Criteria to join

Must have a recent profile of  your photo showing your face by yourself only (update if needed)

User name in profile should be your first name (only)

Must commit to join the group’s outings at a minimum of 2 per season of the year (that is 2 outings every 3 months)

Q & A to help you decide if this group is suitable for you:

• Are you interested to meet other hikers?

• Do you work well in a team environment?

• Do you agree to stay close with the team while on an outing?

• Do you have basic outdoor clothing and basic hiking gear?

• Are you willing to learn something new?

• Are you willing to share some of your transferable skills?

• Are you willing to carry some team gear on a trip?

• Are you prepared to participate in regular drills in outdoor safety training?

• Are you prepared to assist other hikers in an emergency situation?

• Do you stay calm in an undesirable situation?

• Do you agree to stay within your skill limits?

• Would you consider to take up training if needed (first aid, avalanche safety, etc.)

If your answer is yes to most of the above questions, you are in a good place with this group.
