Authentic Theravada Buddhism

Markham, ON

Authentic Theravada Buddhism
## What we're about The Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery Toronto, also known as The Buddha Meditation Centre of Greater Toronto is a place for people to learn and practice the teachings of the Buddha as preserved faithfully in the scriptures of [Theravada Buddhism](https://www.mahamevnawa.ca/theravada-buddhism.html). The lay community is led by fully ordained monks (bhikkhus). The Buddha Meditation Centre of Greater Toronto is part of the [Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery](http://mahamevnawa.ca/) (pronounced maha-may-oo-NA-wa). We've been at our present location in north Markham since 2008 and have over 500 individual members from all across the GTA. If you are interested in learning about the Buddha's teachings, you may also want to check out our weekly Dhamma talk in our other meetup group, Friday-Dhamma talk, and devotional service. We offer a variety of regular activities such as Dhamma Talks (sermons), Day long meditation retreats (Uposatha- Eight Precepts observance), and children's and teens' classes in the English language.  Also, you can learn the perfect way how and why to meditate in the way the Buddha taught. **We will cover:** * Meditation posture * Why we meditate * The problems that happen in our meditation and how to overcome them * Breathing meditation * Loving-kindness meditation * Meditation on the parts of the body and the elements * Walking meditation and more... All the classes are taught by monks trained in the Theravada Buddhist Tradition. All of the techniques we teach in these classes are simple, useful, and down-to-earth. Don't be nervous if you've never been to a monastery or meditation Centre before. The atmosphere at the monastery is peaceful, welcoming, and very friendly.
