We also recommend for your privacy and safety to not to use your full name as your username. Your first name or first name and last initial work fine. i.e. "Paul P". \ We frown upon No-Shows as this wastes the time of the event hosts and other group members. Please change your R.S.V.P. status if you decide not to come to an event you have signed up for.

Writers Who Write

Guelph, ON

Writers Who Write
We are writers who write, as opposed to writers who only think about writing. 😅 We learn by doing, and we believe that the best way to hone our skills is to write, and to write a lot! In addition to being diligent, honest, and enthusiastic, we dabble in multiple genres. And although we’re based in Canada, now that our meetings are online, we welcome writers over the age of 18 from anywhere in the world. Our meetings are free, but anonymous attendance is not permitted, and active participation is expected. Please note that by participating in this group and by attending our meetings, all members agree to abide by our Community Rules enumerated below. This group was founded in Ontario by Laura H after her enlightening experience of writing a short story outside of her preferred genre. She began the in-person short genre-fiction group, colloquially named “Story Club” and randomly assigned members a new genre per month through which they could showcase their talent. Now, although we still emphasize the value of writing outside of our comfort zone, we have recently expanded the group to welcome writers of creative nonfiction and we added a monthly craft chat. Soon we will add poetry and long-form gatherings as well. However, in keeping with the vision of our founder, the short story continues to rule! If you like what you’ve read so far, please take a look at our upcoming events and RSVP for those that spark your interest. We look forward to meeting you! Community Rules: By participating in our group and by attending our meetings you agree to: 1. Respect all attendees. We are a diverse group. All races, genders, orientations, cultures, and religions are welcome here. Hate in any form will not be tolerated. We emphatically ask you to consider the way your work or your words might be received by others, particularly those who are members of marginalized groups, and to act accordingly. 2. Be sensitive and empathetic. Work shared during our meetings must not include explicit sexual content, explicit violence, or undue descriptions of violence. This rule encompasses text, images, or links featuring nudity, sex, hard violence, or other graphically disturbing material. Although we recognize that sex, violence, conflict, and oppression are part of the human experience and therefore sometimes appear in the stories we tell, in this group it is unacceptable to gratuitously distress people who may be negatively affected by our writing. 3. Respect copyright and privacy. Recording any voice, video, or images during the meetings is not permitted. Likewise forbidden is plagiarizing the work of others. 4. Critique politely. We're all here to learn and share a love of writing. Most of our meetings center on giving and receiving constructive feedback. Constructive feedback is neither mean nor haughty. Please be kind and supportive. 5. Honor your affirmative RSVP or cancel it in a timely manner so that those on the waitlist can be notified and the meeting host can judiciously allocate time for reading, critiquing, and discussion. 6. Understand that spamming is a non-no. This meetup is not intended to provide opportunities to recruit members for any pecuniary or ideological purpose. Please refrain from pitching services, products, and dogma during meetings or in the chat. 7. Please let us know if something makes you feel unsafe. The hosts of each meeting reserve the right to remove anyone from the meeting (and possibly from the group at large) if they deem it in the best interest of the meeting or the group. 8. Everyone must state their first name in order to apply and remain in this group. Thank you.
