Yorkshire Climbers

Leeds, 45

Yorkshire Climbers
We are a group based in West Yorkshire, for people who want to climb or have days out in the hills and mountains. The group has being going for 12yrs (as of Jan 22). We are a very busy, friendly group with a small core of enthusiastic, committed and experienced climbers. When the weather allows meet weekly to climb outdoors (mainly 'Trad' but some 'sport') alongside regular bouldering meets, during the summer months and as often as the weather allows during the winter. We also meet at least weekly indoors at climbing walls (mainly Big Depot on Thursdays, further afield Harrogate, Sheffield etc on Sundays). During the summer months we have several residential meets in the Lakes and Snowdonia, staying in YHAs, bunkbarns or camping, and now have a 'Winter Escape' trip to Spain. We are also giving some thought to walks, social events and more European climbing destinations. **We need to make it clear that, whilst some of us have years of experience, we are not instructors or professionally qualified to teach climbing and we are not responsible for teaching new climbers to belay etc.** **If you are new to climbing:** please join us when you have completed the wall's induction programmes: for boulderers this is generally basic instruction, for lead climbing you will need to have completed a relevant course in top rope belaying and lead belaying **Climbers:** those who are already competent and can sign themselves in can come along to any event. **Membership:** £10 for the year to cover the meetup costs. We ask you to pay once you start climbing with us on a regular basis. We have a number of spare harnesses, pairs of shoes, helmets and belay devices which we can lend out (please let us know before the meeting whether you need to borrow anything. Alternatively, equipment can be hired at climbing walls. Additionally, before joining us you should read the BMC participation statement which states: "The BMC recognize that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement." If you do not accept full responsibility for for your own actions and involvement in any outdoor activities please do not join this group, Yorkshire Climbers cannot accept responsibility for the actions of its members and advises everyone to get adequate insurance for the activities they want to take part in, Insurance details can be found on the BMC site. So, if you think this is for you, come along and experience the fun of climbing!!!

Walks & Weekends Away, (fka Leeds YHA Walking Group)

Leeds, 45

Walks & Weekends Away, (fka Leeds YHA Walking Group)
**Hello there!** We are a friendly group of people who enjoy walking and outdoor activities. People leading walks for the group are not qualified walk leaders or do not have any outdoor qualifications. People joining our walks do so at their own risks. **How do I meet the Group?** It is best to contact the events organiser and let them know that you intend to attend a walk/event. You can then sign up for the walk/event on the meetup site. This lets the walk leader know how many people to expect on the walk/event and this allows them to plan accordingly. You can also contact one of the committee members identified as contacts on the front cover. **Is there a membership fee?** Yes, but you are welcome to try one walk before being asked to join. There is no charge for individual walks. The subscription is currently £5 per year. You can contact John Freeman, our treasurer, through the meetup site and arrange payment. Alternatively you can speak to a committee member. Please note that we are charged by the number of members we have in our group so if you do not attend an event within 12 months you will be removed from our meetup always with the option to rejoin at any point. **Do I also need to be a member of the national YHA?** No, you do not need to be a member of the national YHA . When we stay in a YHA hostel on our weekends away it is sufficient for one person in the group to be a national YHA member. You may however be asked to show ID when you stay at a a YHA hostel. **How do I get to events?** We encourage car sharing. Use the meetup site to book onto the walk and you can also request a lift or offer to car share. **Who runs Leeds YHA Walking Group?** An elected committee co-ordinates the group’s activities which are then run by individual members. All members are actively encouraged to lead walks and to organise events. **Tuesday evenings:** Walks and social events are organised on Tuesday evenings usually starting at 7.30 pm. **Weekends away:** These usually involve Friday and Saturday nights at either a YHA or an independent hostel with walks, occasional cycle rides or other outdoor/social activities organised on the Saturday and Sunday. You do need to be a fully paid up member of the group to attend a weekend away. **Weekend day walks/cycle rides:** Unless otherwise stated we start at 10.30am. We stop for refreshments on the walk so please bring a packed lunch & drink. Please wear appropriate clothing and hiking boots including waterproofs. **Walks:** \*\*Grade 1:\*\*A gentle, fairly flat walk of up to 6 miles. \*\*Grade 2:\*\*An undulating walk of about 7-9 miles. \*\*Grade 3:\*\*A walk of 10-13 miles with moderate ascent \*\*Grade 4:\*\*A walk of 14-16 miles –significant ascent \*\*Grade 5:\*\*A challenging fast-paced walk of 17+ miles. **Cycle rides:** \*\*Grade 1:\*\*A gentle fairly flat ride, up to 15 miles. \*\*Grade 3:\*\*A moderate ride with some hills, up to 40 miles.

Take A Hike, Young Persons' Walking Group - Ramblers

Leeds, 45

Take A Hike, Young Persons' Walking Group - Ramblers
Take A Hike is a friendly walking group for younger ramblers (roughly aged 20’s to 40’s) based in the Leeds/Bradford region. New members are always welcome! Our group was founded in 2002 and is run entirely by volunteers. We are just one of around 500 Ramblers groups across Britain. Take A Hike is a great way to meet people and explore the area. We are a [website](http://www.takeahike.org.uk) -based group, rather than a Meetup group. We use Meetup to publicise a selection of our walks to help people find out about us. If you’re not already a member of the Ramblers, we invite you to try two or three of our walks for free before deciding whether to join\*.  There is usually at least one walk on offer every week, from short local evening rambles to masochistic 20 mile hikes in the Dales. **You won't see all our walks as events here on Meetup, you need to visit our [website](http://www.takeahike.org.uk) to see the full schedule.** Sometimes walks are added at fairly short notice, so it’s a good idea to check the website regularly. If you have any queries, our [FAQs](https://takeahike.org.uk/group-info/faqs/) include guidance about who the group is aimed at, what to wear for walking, what to bring with you on a walk, how fit you need to be etc. There's also advice if you’re thinking of bringing a dog along. If you want to know anything else have a look at our [website](http://www.takeahike.org.uk) or send us a message. \ We’re on [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/takeahikegroup) too - please give us a 'like' and have a look at what we’ve been up to. We hope to see you soon! \*Please note that to lead a walk for our group, and to attend our socials (apart from the monthly pub meet) and weekends away, you need to be a member of the Ramblers (Britain's walking charity). Joining involves paying a monthly or annual subscription. Being a member has several other benefits. As well as supporting the charitable aims of the Ramblers, you also receive magazines, have access to hundreds of organised walks across the country every week, plus there’s a discretionary 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoor and other outdoor shops. Find out more [here](https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-member.aspx). \
