Brighton Outdoor Society

Brighton, P6

Brighton Outdoor Society

We are the Brighton Outdoor Society, the hike, bike and other outdoor activities club!

The group strives to cater for a range of levels and interests when it comes to walking and cycling located in and around Brighton and Sussex.

Our group is open to all ages, singles and couples of differing racial/ethnic/cultural/religious/political backgrounds. We are united by our love of the outdoors.

The group is not-for-profit, but in order to cover the meetup fees, we require a £3 annual membership payable when signing up to your 2nd event. Should any surplus revenue be generated this will be donated to a selected charity each year.

All members should strive to be as reliable as possible, editing their RSVP to 'not going' in good time. No showing to an event is unacceptable and doing so twice will result in being removed from the group.

Check out the 'Our Calendar' tab for all upcoming activities. We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon!

Sunday Walking And Talking (SWAT) - Brighton

Brighton, P6

Sunday Walking And Talking (SWAT) - Brighton

This is a group for people who enjoy a Sunday morning walk in the Sussex countryside in convivial company.  The walks will usually be roughly 3 to 5 hours in duration and will, where possible, be accessible via public transport. Walks can be either circular or linear but will feature at least some sort of refreshment point at the end of the route.

Although the pace is not on a par with the Ramblers you should ensure before signing up for a walk that you can maintain a steady pace.  As a guideline, the Group usually walks at around two and a half miles per hour.

Dogs are, in most instances, welcome but remember on many routes you may encounter livestock who can be particularly protective of their young in early summer (that’s enough disclaimers). Dogs are entirely the responsibility of their owners and it the owner's responsibility to ensure their dogs are on a lead when nearing roads or livestock.

The walks are free and open to all (even non-members) and any member of the group can suggest/organise a route – the more the merrier.

Please be aware - There is always a risk of injury when participating in any outdoor activity so please be sensible and responsible. Always be prepared for adverse weather by bringing a waterproof jacket, warm clothes, and high energy snacks in cold weather and protection from the sun and heat in summer. Please wear sturdy footware. By RSVPing to a walk, you accept responsibility for your own safety, and agree that the Organisers and walk leader can be in no way held responsible for any injury incurred to yourself, your guests, or your or their dogs, in the course of the walk.

Brighton over 35s Lesbian & Queer Women's Group
The over 35s Lesbian, Bisexual & Trans Women’s group is a self-organised and funded group for  women who identify as lesbian, bi, and trans who live authentically as female. This is a social group for singles women and couples alike who are mainly over 35. We host a variety of regular and one-off events such as pub meet-ups, quizzes, café get-togethers,  club nights, cinema, music, theatre events, various outdoor activities such as camping, scenic walks, picnics, beach BBQ, bike rides... and much more! (please see the calendar for further details). Some events are open to friends and family. All members are welcome to make suggestions for future events and if you are interested in hosting an event please contact one of the committee, we are always keen to encourage members to host events. In order to help cover the costs of running the group, we ask for an initial joining fee of £5. Should overhead costs (such as the Meet Up website annual fees) increase, we might occasionally ask for additional donations. Events are generally free to attend but if there are admissions charges (galleries/cinema etc) the event host will mention this in the event post. Messages and group chats are moderated and anything posted by members that may be inappropriate or offensive to others will be deleted. We ask if all members could submit a photograph of themselves when joining the group, as this enables both event hosts, and members who attend events, to know who is attending and also so you can recognise the event host. The group is committed to hosting events where all our members can meet and feel comfortable together and by signing up as a member you agree to the group’s guidelines (a copy of the guidelines are available by request, from any of the group’s organisers).

Park Workouts 2.0

Hove, E2

Park Workouts 2.0
Welcome to Park Workouts 2.0! Offering affordable. inclusive fitness and sports activities for all! Originally started in lockdown when the gyms were closed as a way of exercising with people in the great outdoors, it's now evolved into indoor/outdoor affordable workouts, sporting events and socials. A great place to meet new people in a relaxed environment, whilst keeping fit and healthy. As always, I must remind you that I'm not a PT! Just an active woman who's learnt a thing or two over the years in gyms and workout classes. Do have a good read of the event's description as events vary quite a lot. I do try to keep the events as low cost as possible. Costs are to cover the Meetup organiser fee, event hire fees, renewing equipment, extortionate PayPal fees (!!!) etc. Donations welcome! If the event is listed as a PayPal event, then I'm afraid it's a pre-payment only event and cash on the day won't be accepted. Unfortunately, I have had so many timewasters over the years not showing up to events (even worse if I have already pre-paid for the venue myself) that I have had to put a lot of pre-payments in place to avoid no-shows. Good news though - if you don't have a PayPal account you can log in as a guest and make payment via card instead so it's quite flexible. If you can't make it, please be courteous and amend your RSVP in good time. No shows tend to get removed from the group. Do keep an eye out on the weather for outdoor events - if it's raining, it's cancelled. Looking forward to keeping active and social with you all! Disclaimer This Meetup group, its organisers, and members, take no responsibility for any injuries or accidents that may occur during events. By joining this event you take full responsibility for your own safety. Please ensure that you are in suitable health for the activities descripbed before participating and understand that there is risk involved in your participation. This Meetup group does not certify the qualifications of any of its organisers and they are not responsible for your safety. We are all just participants.

Eastbourne Fun for Over 50's

Eastbourne, E2

Eastbourne Fun for Over 50's
Eastbourne is a great place to live with much to offer. This group is for anyone over 50 who wants to come together for a range of activities, meet new people and have fun. If you like to dance the night away, enjoy great conversations, a good film, meal, walk, theatre outing, arts, crafts, singing and so much more we may be the group for you.  If you want to grow old disgracefully, prefer laughter lines to frowning and like to connect with like minded people, this is the group for you. A group is only as successful as its members. If you have ideas about activities you are interested in, let me know and I will put it out as an event. Experience suggests there is always someone who would like to join you. **GROUP GUIDELINES.** 1. *If you have agreed to attend and your plans change (it happens to all of us at times), **kindly change your RSVP to NO to reflect this.** This group is not run as a business and the Organizers spend voluntary admin time researching ideas and reserving places at venues, as well as putting the details on Meetup. It is unfair and discourteous to them to agree to go and then not attend, without notification. It is also unfair to members on the waitlist wyo could have attended. **Anyone who does this more than three times will be removed from the group.*** 2. *Goes without saying that we expect courteous, respectful behaviour to all. We are a friendly group and we avoid drama and conflict.* 3. ***You are required to provide a current photo of yourself on your profile***\*. This makes it easier for the organizer of an event to recognize you and is part of our secuirty at events for members. 4. New members are allowed to attend 3 meetings for free. This will enable them to decide whether the group is a good fit and, if so, will then pay a **membership** **fee of £5 per annum**.
