London International Hiking and Outdoor Activities Community

London, 17

London International Hiking and Outdoor Activities Community
This groups is to bring hiking enthusiasts together for glorious days in the beautiful British countryside, usually within easy reach of London. Like a lot of people who live in London, we are bunch of international people and would like to welcome any hiking enthusiast from any national, cultural, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation background to our group. We have plenty of experience in guiding walks in the countryside. In addition to common routes, which are available online, we also design our own routes at times. Everybody is welcome but we have one important criteria to set our group apart from others... and that is **to be able to keep an average (18-20 minutes per mile) to brisk (16-17 minutes per mile) pace\* throughout the walk**. Please see below for guidance on pace. There are groups for fast walkers and groups for slow to average walkers. We are neither. This is a group for average to brisk walking people. In addition to this criteria, we expect the usual civil behavior any social group expects such as being kind, considerate, accountable, ability to take responsibility for yourself. This is mainly a hiking group but we are planning to organise other type of activities at times like cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, camping, cross country skiing. Looking forward to meet you at one of our walks... Eser & Maria. \*Pace... strolling >30 minutes per mile, slow 20-30 minutes per mile, average 18-20 minutes per mile, brisk 16-17 miles per hour, fast <=15 minutes per mile. This criteria may vary during long climbs or on uneven, muddy surfaces. [Want to be healthier? Pick up the pace of your walk.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/want-to-be-healthier-pick-up-the-pace-of-your-walk/2018/08/16/cc144492-a09f-11e8-8e87-c869fe70a721_story.html)

Herts outdoors

Hemel Hempstead, F8

Herts outdoors

This is an initiative for happier and healthier people.

We were walking, hiking and spending time outdoors as part of various meetup groups. We were acutely aware of how being outdoors makes one feel calmer, at peace and also bestows a sense of achievement. As a person, when you experience something so enriching, you want to pass it on to your others too.

The crispness of the air, the clarity of the water, the vastness of the space, the sheer beauty of the landscape - we wanted these to be part of our life. We knew with personal experience that being with nature will aid them to find a joy within - a precious life skill that will help make their lives happier in the long run.

If you are a parent, professional, or individual, and are looking to rekindle yourself with nature and have great fun whilst at it, then you have come to the right place.

If you are already an outdoor-focused person, brimming with ideas of things to do outdoors and would love to pass the bug on to others, you have come to the right place. We are always looking for people like you to join the team.

If you are an outdoor professional in any outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, sailing, kayaking, biking, etc. and think, your values and mission resonates with ours, and would like to team up with us in creating more outdoor opportunities, then if you have come to the right place.

We:

- organise fun, outdoor days out, and wild weekends away with or without family

- encourage and provide support to our members to arrange similar meetups in their area

- Support outdoor professionals around the UK and why not abroad.

Luton - Dunstable Activities, Dining & Social Group

Luton, A5

Luton - Dunstable Activities, Dining & Social Group
Welcome to this Meetup group, for people who live in Luton, Dunstable and the surrounding areas, who’d like to take part in social activities on a regular basis, meet new friends and lead an active social life. Our typical members range in age from 20s to 60s, but there are no constraints on age (as long as you’re over 18)! We aim to discover unique and unusual local activities and events, together with regular, more traditional Meetups like meals, theatre trips, live music and walks. Our aim is to create a balanced social calendar for single people and couples alike :-)   Most of our events take place in the three counties but sometimes we venture further afield to London.   Our walks are led at a decent pace but we don’t frantically march you from start to finish; our emphasis is more on being sociable rather than just clocking up the maximum distance in the minimum time. We like to be able to maintain a conversation as we walk and you won’t get left behind if you stop to tie your shoelace! Previous Meetups have included a Mad Hatters Tea Party, a Ukulele Jam, a Butterfly Walk, Trampolining, a Narrow Boat Cruise and many more.   We’re always looking for new ideas, so please share with us your thoughts for future events.     PROFILE PHOTO To join this group, you must be easily recognisable from your profile photo. Please note we can’t accept photos from linked social media accounts if your face is not clearly visible. MEMBERSHIP DONATION We are asking members to make a voluntary membership contribution – for example a few pounds per year - to cover the cost of having this group on the Meetup site. (Sadly it’s not a free service to the Organisers!) This can be done by PayPal to: **lutondunstableactivities@gmail.com** Please choose the option for paying friends & family, not a business, so no PayPal fees are deducted. ... or in person when you attend an event. (PS We don't read any emails sent to that Gmail address, it's just for PayPal!) Your member donation also covers your membership of our sister group on Meetup – Luton Cineworld Cinema Lovers, so you can head over to join that group too if you enjoy films! ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR POLICY This group has an Acceptable Behaviour Policy. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with it. The policy can be seen here: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U_FoXKK3c6PS6kg7-FD1AFr1J_bOYXhIgj9vScGQkPg/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U_FoXKK3c6PS6kg7-FD1AFr1J_bOYXhIgj9vScGQkPg/edit?usp=sharing) In short, we don’t tolerate harassing behaviour towards other members and such behaviour may lead to your removal from the group.   We also ask you to bear in mind that this is neither a dating site nor a mental health support group. Although there are many wonderful Meetup groups dedicated to these two purposes, our group is about friendship, fun and light-hearted conversation.   People come to our events to escape the stresses and strains of their daily life rather than examine and discuss them at length. Whilst numerous romances have actually blossomed from people meeting at our events, our members are unlikely to respond favourably if you just start randomly messaging them through the site with your best chat up lines!     ATTENDANCE OF EVENTS   In addition, we ask that all members keep in mind the fact that our Event Organisers are hosting their events completely voluntarily, in their own time and we need to make the events as straightforward as possible for them to run!   The absolute basic requirement of all members is therefore to ensure that you keep your RSVPs up to date. If you put your name down to attend an event and later cannot make it, please either change your RSVP to ‘No’ ahead of the event or if the event has already started, write a comment in the event to let the host know you are no longer coming.   Occasionally certain events where reservations have been made at venues will require a non-refundable deposit for this reason.   You may be removed from the group for repeated “No Shows” or last minute drop outs. RISK DISCLAIMER Please note that all members take part in all activities solely at their own risk should any personal loss, accident, illness or physical injury occur during an event. RECEIVING OUR EVENT NOTIFICATIONS Please check your Profile settings to ensure you’re opted in to receive emails from our Organiser. We only send occasional emails regarding important communications. Meetup will also email you to notify you when we list new events. Having problems receiving our emails? Try this: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fZp2y92M86CNW2GVhg10_sllu8Lxc6Krfmq1EElmYE8/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fZp2y92M86CNW2GVhg10_sllu8Lxc6Krfmq1EElmYE8/edit?usp=sharing)

Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Activity & Social Group - HBASG

Hitchin, F8

Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Activity & Social Group - HBASG
**May I wish you all a most warm welcome to - Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Activity and Social Group (HBASG).** HBASG's Main aim is for all its highly valued members to have an absolutely fabulous time. Meet people in the Hertfordshire + Beds areas and make new friends and as valued individuals, live life with even more fun 😀. Events HBASG now run include Fine Dining, Music, Cinema, Bowling and “Specialist events” such as Picnics, Short Walks, BBQ’s, Flying/Gliding, Ballooning, Gardens, Comedy & Hosted holiday events + We have in fact now run for many years a most "Fabulously Inclusive “ HBASG community for the benefit of ALL of the Hertfordshire & Beds Area :) \*\* To cover the ever increasing running costs incurred from the Meetup Franchise (meetup.com) **HBASG** now charges from June 2021 + a small **BI-ANNUAL FEE of £6 (** but with **NO LIMIT’s** to the events you can attend. :) All this for the cost of one drink...What Great Value :) \*\* Please feel free “literally” to have a browse around at our fun filled events calendar via your PC or mobile phone and perhaps even download the www.meetup.com APP ! This group is run by Hugh as the Group Owner & Main Organiser. However HBASG is also a team effort with some great Event Hosts, and many others who kindly put forward their own kind ideas, and/or help host specific events and also aid Hugh with some Planning and Group Event(s) and administration(s). Although …. more help is always kindly needed/appreciated.     We wish /need ALL OUR MEMBERS to be active/interactive. However we fully appreciate that some newcomers may have some reticence at attending their first event(s). Please don't be shy :) ..We are indeed a fab and introductionally friendly group ! If you feel a little stressed and a little less than intrepid…..Please feel free to private message any of our event host(s) (and/or me ….Hugh) and kindly request we arrange a meeting point either close(r) to or within any HBASG venue(s) actual locale. Our band of happy Event Hosts will always be pleased to help meet and greet you, but can only do so if you are able/willing to turn up in timely fashion at the events planned venue(s) and posted start time(s). If, for any reason you have to alter your attendance plans…..Can you as a courtesy, kindly ensure you inform the event host(s) of any such changes by posting a kind comment on the event board. \*\* If it's on the same day as the event, or the event has already begun, please kindly message the host directly (by text if they have given out their phone number), as they may not be able to see the event comments due to lack of internet at the venue. HBASG Hosts /Organisers usually permit people to bring guests to almost all events, however some are limited to …”Members only”. Kindly note that :- Events are for adults over 18 only unless the event states 'Children Welcome Event '. Guests should be over 18 as well. Please confirm with the event host(s) if you are in any way unsure of the age limitations per event. And now for the “Fiscal Admin etc “  1. The bi-annual fee for HBASG is only £6 which I think you will perhaps agree is.... A GREAT DEAL :)  2. However once you have attended a few events you may wish to donate £1 to £3 perhaps per event towards the events running costs For those who are not yet aware, Meetup Ltd (based HQ in the USA) charge every Meetup Group Owner/Organiser a fee of over $150 every 6 months to run their group on Meetup [https://www.meetup.com/pricing/](https://www.meetup.com/pricing/). To recover these meetup costs, HBASG usually organise a few very specialist fun events during the year and then charge a few pounds extra per person. This coming year (2024+) we will also be requesting occasional additional event funding’s via voluntary contributions – Say an amount we suggest of say …anything from £1 up to say £10. (Example Hugh actually also run “Green Minded Singles and,,,,generously provides(d) £40+ to the BHS Group, but also pays its own full fees of over $150 + per 6 months …Running for the benefit of members areas - HBASG !) Kindly note that If enough “voluntary funds” are received that go over the HBASG Meetup running cost fees. Any additional funds received will be put aside for the next subscription running cost period J and /or be utilised for running of other fun events such as our fabulous picnics and providing non-alcoholic drinks etc at Gliding/Flying /Picnic/Party EventsLlarger HBASG participation events. Meantime….We thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you soon at future HBASG Events ! Often Asked Questions :- Q1) When you expectantly have 1000+ members. What happens if everyone contributes, what will you do with any received profit(s)? A1) There are currently less than 950 currently actually "active" members. If contributions go over $240 then we will utilise funds received for next years membership fee’s and/or conduct event discounting if a charge is deemed necessary to cover such future event cost(s). Q2) Why have you asked for Voluntary contributions and membership fee(s) ? A2) HBASG is run by Hugh. Hugh firmly believes like some others that, charging large group membership fee(s) can make Meetup Groups far too business orientated. This was not what was originally intended by the originators of “Meetup.com” i.e To create Fun Membership Groups …..For people to mutually enjoy events with ! Note :- Meetup USA Ltd began with “good intentions” after the US 9/11 attacks to bring “Impacted families/friends “ together in mutual support …….after such a terrible day ! However Meetup is now a major US company making Million dollar profits via charging us the Meetup group owners/organisers $260 + a year. Clearly we are giving “absolutely free” to HBASG members our own considerable amount of valuable time and efforts. We would therefore appreciate being able to recoup at least some of the subscription fees we are bi-annually charged by Meetup.com for the benefit of all group members. Q4) How do I make any donations to HBASG ? A4) either by contacting Hugh Direct (or any event host/organiser) to provide a voluntary payment. Please contact Hugh direct - If you need his HBASG - BACS account details or for any other reasons, questions or concerns you may have.

St Albans Silent Book Club irl

St Albans, F8

St Albans Silent Book Club irl
Here's a now-not-so-novel (!) idea: Inspired by the Silent Book Club phenomenon (https://silentbook.club), bring along your current read of choice, any genre and any format (whether physical books, e-books, or audiobooks). There is NO assigned reading and absolutely NO deadlines to finish a book! We meet up in an easily accessible space in St Albans town centre, such as the local Waterstones, or Courtroom cafe or St Albans public library, and maybe even outdoors occasionally, weather permitting (probably three times a year). Depending on our location, we can order food or drinks and discuss our planned reads for a few minutes. Then, at a set time, it's time to immerse ourselves in 1+ hour of quiet, uninterrupted reading. At the end we can decide to share what we've been reading (or not) - and then we can choose to stay back at the end of our meetup (or not)! The simple aim of this silent book club is not to have a didactic or structured agenda but to share our love of reading amongst friends in a chilled space together, and on a monthly basis (for now). Suggestions for times and dates will be welcomed - please drop me a message or post a comment below! Our inaugural session is scheduled for the last Sunday of September 2024 in the courtroom cafe of St Albans Museum + Gallery - and once we find our feet, we will hopefully aim to organise a mix of sessions on different days of the week, using a variety of public spaces. If you would also like to co-organise sessions from time to time, please message me directly! NB: I also run a parallel stationery meetup group that focuses on creative journalling and that usually involves lots of chatting and socialising, but THIS group is intended to be entirely separate and there will not be any overlap of activities with that group - and of course you are absolutely welcome to join both! I really look forward to seeing you real soon :)

West Herts AAA Social

Hemel Hempstead, F8

West Herts AAA Social
Welcome to our Meetup group. It's for people who’d like to take part in social activities on a regular basis, meet new friends and lead an active social life. We aim to discover unique and unusual local activities and events, together with regular, more traditional Meetups like pub nights, meals, cinema/theatre, live music, semi-guided walks etc. Our aim is to compliment activities to your own social calendars. We welcome new ideas and always encourage members to share with us your thoughts for future events. Some events will be free and some we ask members make a small contribution to help cover Meetup costs. (Sadly it’s not a free service to the Organisers!) In addition, we ask that all members keep in mind the fact that our Event Organisers are hosting their events completely voluntarily, in their own time and we need to make the events as straightforward as possible for them to run. The absolute basic requirement of all members is therefore to ensure that you keep your RSVPs up to date. If you put your name down to attend an event and later cannot make it, you need to be fair to all parties involved and click on ‘Edit your RSVP’ to ‘Not going’ ahead of the event. Try not to leave it to the last minute if possible as there will quite often be people on a waiting list wanting to go, should a place become available. The most important thing about this group is to feel safe, relaxed, included and above all, have fun 😇 Risk Disclaimer: Please note that all members take part in all activities solely at their own risk, should any personal loss, accident, illness or physical injury occur during an event.

Stag Walkers (Ramblers 20s-30s)

Hitchin, F8

Stag Walkers (Ramblers 20s-30s)
Stag Walkers is a friendly walking and social group primarily aimed at people in their 20s and 30s but all are welcome and we have members of all ages. We run weekly walks, on Saturdays or Sundays, varying in length from around 5 to 15 miles, and we host regular social nights. Walks and socials generally take place across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and south Cambridgeshire. The group was formed in 2007 and is not profit making. It is part of and funded by Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. It is run by a group of volunteer Ramblers members who are actively involved in the group. **Why walk with Stag Walkers?** • You want to meet like-minded people who enjoy walking • You enjoy getting outdoors and exercising • You want to discover the beauty of Herts, Beds and Cambs countryside **Our Walks** • Take place throughout Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and south Cambridgeshire (although we sometimes go further afield) • Are on country footpaths, through pretty villages and skirt some of the towns in the area • Range from around 5 miles up to 15 miles • Are led by members who volunteer their time for free and are insured to lead walks **Socialising with the Group** In addition to walks, we have a regular social calendar. We organise a range of events throughout the year. **Joining the Group** You are welcome to join up to 3 Ramblers walks free of charge. After you’ve sampled our walks, we ask you to become a member of Ramblers if you wish to continue walking with us. For details of how to join and how much it costs please visit [our website](http://stagwalkers.org.uk/about-us/become-a-member.html). As a charity we ask that non-members consider making a voluntary donation to Ramblers until they become a full member. We suggest £3-4 per walk. A member of the admin team or the walk leader may mention this at the start of the walk and can accept donations on the day. You can also [donate online](https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/support-us/donations/make-a-donation.aspx) at the Ramblers website. Ramblers is a registered charity, no. 1093577 (England & Wales). Your donation will go directly towards funding Stag Walkers, and to wider Ramblers charitable activities. **Notes for joining a walk** • Please ensure you bring adequate drinking water for the duration of the walk. • Please bring a packed lunch & additional snacks if you require them - a lunch stop cannot be guaranteed. Any pub stops tend to be for drinks rather than food to save time. • Please dress appropriately for the weather and ground conditions. Walking boots and waterproofs are strongly advised in the winter and when wet! • Please arrive at the meeting point in good time, preferably 5-10 minutes before the advertised start time; walks begin promptly at the start time stated. • Car-sharing is encouraged but a lift cannot be guaranteed. We ask members to arrange car-sharing between themselves in advance; the best place to do this is on the Meetup event page for each walk. If you get a lift with another member please offer a contribution to their fuel of £3-5 depending on distance. Remember to take a change of shoes to wear in the car, and a bag for muddy boots **On joining Ramblers as a member of Stag Walkers Walking Group** • You will be sent our regular member e-newsletter (if you opt in to marketing emails) containing upcoming walks, news and interesting information about walking and the Ramblers • You are entitled to join in any of the group's walks, weekends away and socials • Your money will help run the group and Ramblers achieve its charitable objectives • Get great discounts at Cotswold Outdoor, and offers on other products and services from time to time  • You will receive Ramblers quarterly Walk magazine, and biannual Stile magazine covering our Area • [And more](https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/join-the-ramblers.aspx)... • Don't forget to quote our group code (HF52) when joining! **Please note the following:** • Booking is required for most walks and events - please read the event description for details. •  If coming to a walk for the first time, you will recognise us by our walking gear, we look like Ramblers (only younger) and anyone there can confirm. We look forward to seeing you on a walk soon! If you have any queries, suggestions or concerns, please email the committee via stagwalkers(at)gmail(dot)com

Stevenage Fairweather Social Group

Stevenage, F8

Stevenage Fairweather Social Group
Welcome to the Stevenage Fairweather Social Group on Meetup.com! We are a Friendly group, building friendships along the way with an emphasis on enjoying a variety of events. Regular events include quizzes, live music, eating out, picnics, great outdoors, cinema and pub crawls. Membership is free til 1st June 2024 Then the fee will be £5.00 per annum from the above date. There is no limit to the number of events you attend annually. New membership requests will be sent banking/paypal details via an email or message. For those you wish to join, initial membership fee is due within 7days. If this isn't paid, to be fair to all members, your request to join will be declined. Frequently asked questions and other "paperwork" 1\. JOINING: Please have a recent photograph \(see 2 below\)\, and at least your interests unhidden\. 2\. PHOTOGRAPH: To join/remain in the group you must have a recent photograph of you \(but no other people in\) that clearly shows your face\. This is very important because it helps us spot you at your first events and also increases the trust and security within the group\. 3\. FEE: An initial fee of £5 is payable to the organiser on joining within 7 days \(bank transfer details on request\) \. This covers the twice yearly charges we have to pay meetup\.com . 4 a. RESPECT: We expect everybody to treat others with respect. This includes members behaving in an appropriate manner at events, especially at venues that we regularly go to. You represent the group there. Please also note that people might not reply to your messages on events immediately due to life happening. Please allow at least 48 hours before expecting a reply. If there is a complaint about inappropriate messages to other members, the person sending the message will be removed from the group and blocked from rejoining. 4 b RESPECT EVENT HOSTS: Event hosts put in lots of work before the event, and you make a firm booking by RSVPing yes. Continuously cancelling last minute or not showing up at all is not respectful to the event host. If you change your plans please let the host know and also remember they may not have internet access at the venue. Don't look at the event and say "oh, there's others who will go". YOU are responsible for your own RSVP. After all, the others might decide to not turn up as well! 5\. EVENT CHANGES OR CANCELLATIONS: Please check the Meetup site at least 12 hours in advance of your chosen event time\. While event hosts will try to keep to the timings announced\, events can get cancelled or moved due to circumstances outside our control\, and the only way to contact you might be through Meetup\. In addition\, timings might not be known at the time the event is published\, and some outdoor events are weather dependent\. 6\. GUESTS: Members can bring guests to some events\, but other events are limited to members only\. 7\. AGE: This group has events to suit people of all ages\. Due to health and safety\, events are for adults over 18 only unless the event states 'Children Welcome'\. Please talk to the event host with questions you may have\. 8.DEPOSITS: Some events require a deposit to secure your place. If this applies and you cannot attend for a genuine reason the event will say what happens to the deposit. If a member continuously cancels last minute the deposit may be put in group funds instead. If the event is cancelled then deposits will be refunded. This might take time if the venue cancels the event and already has the money. If you have been asked for your deposit and you have not sent it in the time stated, your name will go to the waiting list. 9\. NAMES: We have many duplicate names\. We request that you use your first name and the first initial of your surname\. Making your name unique from the others \(remembering that your name will be changed in every meetup group you are in\) so that we know who payments are from\. Most people will do these anyway. However, apart from section 9 on Names which we cannot enforce as it goes across every meetup group you are in, anyone who does not comply or frequently disregards details on this page may be removed from the group. 10\. FAIRWEATHER: We are called fairweather group as majority of our events will be during the months of April \- October with the odd one during the winter months\. please be understanding for the time being until there are more people to host events\.
