Oxford Social Events and Activities

Oxford, K2

Oxford Social Events and Activities
**Welcome to Oxford Social Events & Activities!** This group will have a mixture of social events and activities throughout each year. We will look for events in Oxford that we believe suit the Meetup culture, as well as do additional activities, such as pub quizzes. There will also be a monthly evening social event, with each one taking part at a variety of pubs in Oxford. **Questions and answers** **Who is this group for?** There is no set criteria to who this group is for. We have a mixture of people who are new to Oxford, as well as people ready to start finding a new friend cycle. Anyone is welcome. **What can I expect from the organisers?** Apart from setting events up, we attend for the same reasons as you - to connect and make friends! Whilst we do our best to make everyone feel welcome, please remember we are not a business and are attending to take part in the event organised just as much as you are. **What's the goals of this group?** We want members to find like minded people and develop their own social lives. The Meetup events organised are your opportunity to do this. Additionally, we have a WhatsApp Community, which we aim to grow and give members the opportunity to organise additional activities themselves! **How much does attending cost?** Unless there are tickets required for a public event, we never charge members who attend. However, despite being a group that does not aim to make a profit, we cannot hide from the fact it costs the group £200 per year to run. Because of this, we will ask for donations to fund this. However, we do not make this mandatory and the amount you donate (if anything) is completely optional. **Can I join the WhatsApp Community?** Members who attend regularly are welcome to join the community, as long as they agree to the policies of the group. Please speak to Kevin if you are interested in joining. **Group Rules** These are the policies in place for the group: **1) Be respectful of others.** You are going to meet a diverse range of people, so there are bound to be individuals you don't click with. Rather than make an argument with them, just accept you are different. Additionally, do not harass members outside of events. This includes face-to-face and social media sites. **2) Make sure you correctly update your attending status.** Not knowing the correct number of attendees can have a negative impact on the event taking place. All it takes is a quick tap on your phone to update your status. **3) Do not turn up for events you have not signed up for.** This can potentially lead to difficulties in hosting an event. We don't want to find a member who shows up for pizza, but there is no space on the table! **4) Do not advertise your own activities in the group comments.** Whilst we are happy to see additional events, they must apply to the groups structure. If you want to advertise any of your events, contact Kevin. **5) Do not take control of events hosted.** The organisers already have a plan for the event they are hosting. To prevent any difficulties, respect what the organisers have set up for you. Members are welcome to organise additional activities once the event is over. **6) Appreciate what the organisers do.** Please remember we are not a business and that all the organisers in the group are hosting events on a voluntary basis. The events we host are for ourselves to enjoy as much as you. Anyone who does not apply to these rules is at risk of being removed from the group. © 2024 Oxford Social Events & Activities

Oxfordshire STARS Walks, Socials and Charitable Events

Oxfordshire STARS Walks, Social Nights, Trek Weekends  and Charitable Events

Our aim is to contribute to health and well-being by providing walks, social nights, trek weekends and raising funds for cancer and other worthy charitable causes.

Our group is made up of a friendly bunch of individuals. Some who enjoy the great outdoors, some who enjoy socialising and others who like to support our charity work.

We like to bring people together in a fun and happy environment and a strong emphasis is put on being supportive, respectful and kind to one another.

WALKING

For those people who are not currently walking but who are considering improving their health and well-being walking is an ideal way to start.

Our walks are generally between 4 to 12 miles long with the majority of walks being in the 6-8 mile range.  Our short and longer walks usually take place during the summer months.

We run Charity Trek weekends twice a year.  Please check our calendar for more information or contact Nicky.

Please ensure you have a reasonable level of fitness before embarking on a walk.

Please also remember to bring your waterproofs, good walking boots or trek sandals, sun hats*, sun cream*, insect repellent*, water, snacks and cameras (*depending on the time of year).

To help cover the cost of this site we ask our walkers to contribute £2 per walk.  Any surplus funds are used to support our charity fundraising  expenses (e.g. photocopying, postage, stationery, laminates, raffle tickets, bingo books, prizes etc.).

SOCIAL EVENTS

Our Social and Charity Events provide a chance for people to make new friends while raising money for a worthy cause.  Any donations of raffle prizes are always very welcome.

We currently organise social nights, quiz nights, bands, dinners and our annual New Years Eve Party.

Our two chosen charities for 2018 are Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Royal British Legion.

WOW - OXFORDSHIRE WALKING AND SOCIAL GROUP

Witney, K2

WOW - OXFORDSHIRE WALKING AND SOCIAL GROUP
This is a walking group which welcomes everyone, but particularly single people who do not like to walk alone and who often feel uncomfortable in groups full of couples and families. Walkers must be over 16 years old. We are mainly based in mid and west Oxfordshire and try to organise activities across the county (and sometimes further afield). It is advisable to have your own transport as offers for lifts can not be guaranteed.  The walks take place on Sundays, or occasionally Saturday. Walks are generally between 4 and 11 miles in length, and in the summer we try to put on shorter evening walks. We usually go to a pub for drinks after the walk and occasionally organise lunch after the walk. Please note, numbers for lunch are usually limited.  Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the walks but must be kept on a lead around any animals and on roads, as well as when asked to do so. Walking Safety: Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk. Before going on any of these walks you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety. The group walks at a reasonable pace - about 2-3 mph and you must be able to keep up to ensure that group is able to stay together. You must wear appropriate clothing such as proper walking boots, warm and wet weather clothing and carry sufficient food and water.  Please note that everyone walks at their own risk and WOW takes no responsibility for any accidents that might happen during one of our events. ***WOW WELCOMES WALKERS***

Oxfordshire Social Walkers

Oxford, K2

Oxfordshire Social Walkers
Welcome to the group! This group is all about getting out of the house and meeting new friends doing various social activities. The group has members covering a wide range of ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Our core activities are 1. Walks in Oxfordshire and the border of the surrounding counties, usually no more than an hours drive from Oxford, sometimes ending with a pub lunch/drink whenever possible. Our walks normally range from 3-10 miles, mid week walks are approx. 3-5 miles as we like to get back before sunset. These health and fitness  walks will have an expected finish time on, we try to keep to approximately 2.5 miles to the hour but sometimes this can go over for reasons beyond our control. 2. We also have many other activities going on throughout the month such as pub nights, meals out, music and cinema events and days out. 3. Camping and Premier Inn type weekends or mini breaks 4. We welcome suggestions and happy to help put the event up for you if you can be the host? Whilst I recognise everyone's cost of living has increased over the last few months, weekend walks have been reduced to £2 per person, midweek walks and social events are £1. Camping weekends are approx. £3-5 per event and some events are free. We have a loyalty card scheme starting in 2021, after attending 4x£2 paid walks the 5th is free and the same applies to £1 walks and socials. So if this sound's like what you've been searching for, come along and give us a try. We encourage new members to come along to one of the mid-month pub nights to meet the organizers and other members old and new. I recommend downloading the App version on your mobile so you are up to date with events and have your email settings ON to receive email notifications from the Organisers- we email members re event updates which we know people have missed because the settings are set to off.  **Please note:** We are a relaxed group but we do expect our members to update their RSVP's as soon as possible if they are unable to attend an event to help organizers and other members who may wish to attend, and like many other similar meetup groups, we do operate a  2 "No Show" policy that will result in asking you to pay (if applicable ) and /or possible removal from the group. All the Organizers time is voluntary so please help us by ensuring you do your own planning for making it to an event on time and understanding what and where it is from the information provided on the event pages. I look forward to seeing you soon, Jo, Beth and Paul.

Childfree Women Oxfordshire

Bicester, K2

Childfree Women Oxfordshire
This is a group for women who have chosen not to have children, where you can connect, share experiences and make real friends. It's about celebrating our freedom and the choices we have made whilst respecting the choices of others. Women of all ages are welcome. We meet at least monthly and often several times a month, with the meet-ups planned by different members of the group each time. We organise everything through our WhatsApp group, which is very active, so please don't join if that's not a good fit for you and what you're after at the moment. **Why join us:** You may be new to Oxfordshire... You may have just heard that the last of your core friends is pregnant... You may be finding that your friends are less available or completely preoccupied with their kids. You may be exhausted with justifying to everyone who wants to know why you're not having babies! In this group, you can be yourself, safe in the knowledge that we are childfree and 'get it'. The paths that bring us to childfree are many and varied but we are united by positively embracing it. Please note this is not a platform for bashing parents or to be anti-babies/children. Let's also be respectful of those who may be child-less not through choice. **The WhatsApp Community** Because different members organise different events, all of our chat and organisation takes place on our WhatsApp community (rather than on this Meetup page). We use WhatsApp to get to know each other and share childfree content, and with 100 of us on there so far, it can be pretty active! We currently have 30 subgroups within our community including ones for: * Abingdon, Didcot & Wantage * Banburyshire Ladies * Book club * Cat Appreciation * Climbing/bouldering * Childfree couples * Dog walking * Endometriosis * Events & Meetups * Farm Shops * General childfree chat * Hiking * Horseriding * Ice Skating * Jiu Jitsu * Oxford * Murder mystery * Newbies * Paddleboarding * Salsa * Tabletop gaming * Thirsty Meeples * Unfortunate - The Musical Parody * Weight loss, exercise & nutrition accountability * Wild swimming Of course, you can turn your notifications off and catch up with the chat when you can, but if you're not interested in joining the WhatsApp community and getting involved with us on there, then we're probably not the right fit for you right now. If you'd love to join a friendly and active community, then pop me a message with your name and mobile number and I'll add you to our WhatsApp group. Get involved! Come to events, bring your ideas for what you want to do and contribute to the organisation of events. **RSVP etiquette:** Life can get in the way. Plans can change. We get that. A 'no show' can leave other members in an awkward position at a half empty table and your organiser spending half the night looking out for people who may never come. It's just manners - so please give as much notice as possible if you can no longer attend an event. **Sarah** **Group Organiser**
