Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing

Glasgow, V2

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing
Hi there! Welcome to the **rock and indoor climbing** branch of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group, *Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing*. If you are interested in hillwalking, you can find our walking branch at [https://www.meetup.com/Scottish-Hillwalking-Activities-Group-Walking/](https://www.meetup.com/Scottish-Hillwalking-Activities-Group-Walking/). We're a  friendly group that was founded to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so.  **Rock climbing** We have a dedicated core of climbers. There are regular weekly meetups at the Glasgow Climbing Centre and The Climbing Academy. In addition, we host occasional events at Ratho, the Alien Rock venues in Edinburgh and the new climbing centre Above Adventure in Kilmarnock. The group also holds regular rock climbing meets at local crags when the weather is fine, and snow/ice climbs through the winter. Many of these are arranged on group nights at the last minute, due to our fickle weather, so being an active member opens up more options to you.  Further afield, we usually have an annual bouldering trip to Fontainebleau and a European sport climbing trip. Again, you need to be active members to be invited to these. We are a beginner friendly group and we run several indoor and outdoor introduction events a year for bouldering, trad, sport climbing and belaying. Please note that events involving rope management skills are restricted to members that can already belay safely. **Organisers** The organiser of an event is the point of contact for the event.  Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this. The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com. If you would like to get involved in organising events, please feel free to [get in touch with Mountain Goat via my Meetup profile](https://www.meetup.com/members/8025412/). Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon, ***Mountain Goat***

All members and guests are required to abide by our **code of conduct** given below. This document outlines the appropriate behaviours expected of all members, guests and anyone working on the club’s behalf. To: • Uphold the values, rules, code of conduct and other policies of the Club and Mountaineering Scotland to which the club is affiliated • Promote and preserve the good reputation of the Club and Mountaineering Scotland • Treat others fairly and with dignity, courtesy and respect at all times. The club supports diversity in all forms. • Raise any concern regarding the behaviour of a Club member, guest or anyone working on the club’s behalf with the Club committee secretary or another committee member, in accordance with the Club’s complaints procedure. • Ensure that any concern regarding the safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults associated with the club or its activities is reported to the committee. • Follow health and safety protocols and avoid any unnecessary risks or behaviour that may affect the health, safety of welfare of others or themselves. • Follow the principles of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code including respecting property and privacy of local residents and property and livelihood of landowners. Members, volunteers and helpers must not behave or condone others: • behaving in a manner liable to bring the activity of low and high level walking, the Club or Mountaineering Scotland into disrepute. • engaging in unacceptable behaviours including using inappropriate language, bullying, harassment, discrimination, physical or verbal violence, drunkenness or use of illegal drugs. Members, volunteers and helpers engaging in such behaviours may be suspended from the Club whilst such allegations are properly investigated. **Club policy documents** The club has a privacy policy which new members are made aware of when they join. Our club has a formal complaints procedure for dealing with any complaints by members or guests against other members or guests or about the management of the club by the club committee or club officials. Our club operates according to its constitution, which includes its code of conduct and complaints procedure. The club has a standard walk safety policy and arrangements for weekends away (described elsewhere in “About Us”. Note: As of July 2024 the Meetup website no longer offers the facility to store all these club policy documents in full so they were circulated to all current members in September 2024. We are currently developing a new club website which will offer among other things a new convenient place where the documents can be accessed by members. But meantime they can be may be obtained if needed from Paul Harrison (President) or Laura Nav (Vice President) at any time. **Mountaineering Scotland Membership** Our club and all our members are affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland, the cost of which is included in our membership fee: this offers many benefits, including liability insurance (note this is not personal accident insurance - members must arrange this themselves if they want it) . Mountaineering Scotland is Scotland’s national representative body for hill walkers, climbers and ski-mountaineers which works hard to look after their interests. Our club members now have access to all the benefits of MS membership as the cost of this is included in Glasgow HF's membership fee. There is a wealth of information on all aspects of hill walking and mountaineering to be found on their website [www.mcofs.org.uk](http://www.mcofs.org.uk) and all novice walkers should take advantage of this as part of their preparation for attending walks. **Contacting club officers** Once you have registered with the club, if you have a question for one of the committee members, you can make contact directly through the website by clicking on the "Members” button on the Home Page and then the "Leadership Team" button On the drop-down menu. This brings up a list of committee members and their roles, as well as walk organisers. Simply click on the name of the person you want to contact and post a note. **COMING OUT ON OUR WALKS** **New members** If you are a beginner we ask that you consider whether your level of fitness is appropriate for the type of walk that you want to do - occasionally someone will turn up who is not fit enough to complete a walk and this can be frustrating, both for the group and the individual. It can also be very demoralising for that person and may put them off hill walking altogether. We don’t want you to feel under pressure on your first walk, so think about the grade of walk that you believe you can comfortably manage. I fyou need a lift to the start of a walk, check in the comments section on the webpage for the event to see if anyone has already ofered to give a lift - or post a note requesting one. Please also see the section 'Using members' cars' below. **Type of walks** We have three broad grades of walk: Easier – typically on level routes or sometimes with slight ascents taken at an easy pace. Moderate – sometimes on paths or tracks, but with open country and some steep ascents at a steady pace. Strenuous – ascents of one or more Munros at a brisk pace. These walk descriptions are explained more fully below. The published programme shows the distance and height of each walk, so members can confidently choose one that suits their level of fitness. The club organises walks every weekend (and several weekends away on public holidays and at other times) as well as some weekday walks. This website shows our programme, where to meet and what to bring. If you have any questions, please email a member of the organising committee. Here are the grades of walks undertaken by the club with brief details of what you can expect:- Grade A+ Very strenuous: arduous traverses involving steep ascents/descents over rugged terrain – for experienced, energetic hillwalkers who enjoy a long day out of 8+ hours. Typically >1200 metres ascent + 20km. Grade A Strenuous: fitness, stamina & experience required for ascents of 900-1200m + 10-20 km walking at a brisk pace for 6/7 hours. Steep ascents/descents over rough ground. Grade B+ Moderate to strenuous: for regular walkers or newcomers who are used to sustained aerobic exercise. A steady pace will be required for ascents between 600-900m (expect some steep gradients) + 10-15km usually covered over 6 hours. Grade B Moderate: usually on paths/tracks, 300-600m ascent (with possibly some steep sections) + 10-15km or up to 20km on flatter walks. Expect to be walking for 5/6 hours. Grade C+ Easy to moderate: typically up to 300m ascent (gentle gradients) + 9-12km or up to 15km on flatter walks which should take 4/5 hours. Suitable for anyone with average fitness/limited walking experience. Grade C  Easy: a maximum of 4 hours to cover 12km with minimal ascent on paths/tracks/roads always at a comfortable pace. Walkers who want to go on a more strenuous walk (grades B+, A or A+) should contact Alan Ramsay (07886 809614) or Robin Gordon (07866 430331) prior to their first walk - this is especially important in winter. The website [www.walkhighlands.co.uk](http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk) contains detailed descriptions of many of the hill walks (and lower level walks) that appear in our programme – consulting that may provide you with more information on what a particular walk entails. **Booking on day walks** Our arrangements for booking on walks are designed to try to be as equitable and reliable as possible for participants, and to discourage last minute changes in those who are going, so that those on the waiting list have maximum notice of vacancies that arise. \- For safety reasons in the event of an accident or a participant becoming unwell on a walk\, there must be a minimum of 3 in the group for a walk to proceed\. \- RSVPs open 7 days before the walk: hopefully\, by this time members should be pretty certain of their plans for the following week and not engage in pre\-emptive booking\. \- RSVPs will usually close 24 hours before the walk meetup time\. Any member who has a place on a walk but fails to turn up will be marked with a 'No-show' on the website. Only a credible reason for non-attendance (e.g a genuine unforeseen emergency, or travel problem will be considered as mitigating circumstances). We also keep a note of any members who frequently drop out of a walk after RSVPs close to identify if any particular members are making a habit of this practice, since it also effectively denies other members the chance to go on walks. We also strongly discourage 'double-booking' on walks i.e. where a member has simultaneously confirmed places on both an HF walk and also on another walk organised by another club. Members who are identified as being double booked on another walk will be removed from the HF walk on which they have a place. Repeated double booking will incur further penalties. **Weekends away** The club organises walking weekends away where members can walk and socialise together, including wherever feasible weekends away providing both low and high level walks. These are usually arranged for the major public holiday weekends, but sometimes at other times as well. Since these are designed to be 'club' weekends, attendance is restricted to paid-up members who are already coming out on day walks with the club. Members are able to sign up for weekends well in advance in order to be able to book their accommodation. If a weekend is fully booked up, members who are seriously interested in going on a weekend are encouraged to sign up on the waiting list since invariably places (and often also accommodation) become free later for various reasons. The club arranges organisers for some suggested walks for each weekend but those who attend will be encouraged to decide and organise amongst themselves during the weekend which walks actually happen. In principle, any member attending a weekend is eligible to attend any of the walks on offer, subject to having suitable experience and fitness, and subject to the usual safety considerations, such as weather, time of year and the maximum number the walk organiser is happy with. The walk organiser has absolute discretion in deciding such matters as the maximum number on the walk and who has suitable experience. Together with individual walk organisers, the overall organiser of the club weekend will arrange a meeting of all attendees on the evening of the day of arrival to discuss and plan all proposed walks for the weekend (including what each walk involves and the weather prospects) and to decide who is doing which walk taking into account safe numbers for each walk and the experience of participants. There will also be a general safety briefing. **Cancellation policy - block booking of hostels for weekends away by the club** Unless the hostel or HF cancel the weekend for any reason, the club will only issue refunds for accommodation paid for if there are no beds still available and someone on the waitlist wishes to take the unwanted bed. The basis of this policy is that the club has to pay the whole cost of block booking the hostel well in advance and therefore needs to break even. For the same reason, those on the waitlist cannot “privately buy” beds no longer wanted if the club still has beds available. **What Equipment Do I Need?** For your own safety and enjoyment, when coming on one of our walks you should be properly equipped for the conditions. The walk organiser may exclude anyone they believe to be not properly equipped, or who they think may not be able to complete the walk in the required time. Basic kit list:- Rucksack, about 35 litres capacity Walking boots with a treaded sole remain the recommended footwear Comfortable outdoor clothing (avoid cotton under layers & denim trousers) Waterproof jacket and overtrousers Spare fleece or jumper, hat & gloves Small First Aid kit (plasters, blister kit, bandage, disinfectant wipes) Survival bag, whistle Liquid (at least 1 litre, more in the summer if it’s hot) and/or flask if hot drink required Enough food for a full day's walking + something extra, just in case Map & compass Mobile phone and power bank backup Summer extras:- Sun hat, sunscreen, midge repellent Winter extras:- Ice axe, crampons, head torch Also advised are:- personal 1-2 person bothy shelter, gaiters, walking poles,  You should also have in your rucksack emergency contact information: your name, address, telephone number and any relevant medical information, plus name and phone number of someone to be contacted in an emergency. If you carry an android mobile phone an emergency contact phone number can be inserted onto the lock screen. For iphones a free app to hold all the above emergency info can be downloaded. **Safety On Club Walks** The club has an excellent safety record because of the broad range of experience that has been built up over many years and for a walk to proceed there must be a minimum of 3 in the group. The walk organiser will be an ordinary club member who is an unpaid volunteer, however they will be competent navigators and in many cases will have been arranging group walks for a number of years. They will determine the route to be taken and set a pace appropriate to the walk grade and makeup of the group. As a courtesy to the group organiser and members, walkers should not go ahead of the group organiser but should remain near them and within their guidance. If they wish to leave the group either temporarily or permanently, they should inform the organiser. Walkers should follow the organiser’s advice but ultimately they are responsible for their own safety. **Weather Forecasts** Checking the weather forecast 1 - 2 days in advance of a walk is a good habit to get into, particularly in winter when the weather may make a walk much more demanding. The recommended website for mountain conditions is [www.mwis.org.uk](http://www.mwis.org.uk) which provides detailed forecasts for areas in Scotland (plus Lake District, Snowdonia). The MetWeather website allows you to check the weather at the top of most munros and some other hills, if you type the name of the hill in the search field. For lower level walks the Metwather forecasts are valuable. In the event of an extremely poor forecast the walk organiser may decide to walk in another area or cancel the planned walk – this will be notified in advance via the club website but could be as late as the evening before a walk. **Using Members Cars** Club members’ cars are the main means of transport to the hill walks in our programme. To compensate drivers for the costs involved a mileage charge of (currently) 34p per car, with the total cost of a journey being divided equally between car drivers and passengers. Please respect the car you are journeying in – don’t wear walking boots in the car, bring a change of footwear and a bag for your boots. **Dogs on walks** Walk organisers may opt to have dogs on their walks. Such walks will be clearly designated as 'Dog Friendly' in the walk details. Dogs must be kept under control at all times. It is envisaged that there will be no more than 2 dogs on each walk, this is at the leaders discretion. Dog owners must provide their own transport and make it clear when offering lifts that there is a dog on board. Members are not obliged to accept a lift in a car with a dog. No professional dog walkers or multiple dogs. Dog owners must adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code: [https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot/practical-guide-all/dog-walking](https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot/practical-guide-all/dog-walking) **The Meetup website – Security & Intellectual Property (IP) matters** When you registered with Meetup, whether you were aware of it or not, you signed up to Meetup's Terms. These are Meetup Terms, and apply to whichever Meetup group you subsequently joined, including HF. As a condition of using the Meetup website you are obliged to always be careful about: being respectful, about sexual content, about asking permission, about respecting privacy, about acting with integrity (not being manipulative or exploitative), and about not being threatening or violent. These terms cover uploading and using information on their (public) website. This means your (Meetup) name, home town, optional biography and interests (if you provided one) and any information you post, including any photos taken on walks or social events that you post, which is naturally a very popular feature of the website. Note your email address is not public information (and Meetup does NOT ask you to provide your address or telephone numbers). The information you provide on HF's membership form is not available on the website and is only shared with Mountaineering Scotland for the purposes of affiliation or with others on a need-to-know basis (e.g. in the event of an accident, with the Mountain Rescue/police). One of the Meetup terms you signed states that you respect the IP rights of others so posting content that violates another's IP rights is prohibited. So only post your own photos (or other information), over which you own the IP rights. If you wish to use any photo or other information posted by another member, even for a club publication, you MUST obtain permission from the person who posted it and holds the copyright. The Meetup website reminds you that you are solely responsible for any information you supply or post on the website and that should understand that your public Information may be accessible by and made public through by search engines and other similar programs. So do not upload any photos or material that you would NOT want anyone to download and use without your permission. Or, if you are a serious photographer, upload them at the lowest resolution necessary for website purposes or add a non-removal copyright watermark across the entire image.

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Hillwalking

Glasgow, V2

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Hillwalking
Hi there! Welcome to the group :-) This group is part of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - but for walking/hillwalking events only. The other part of the group is for climbing events and if you're interested in that, please join [https://www.meetup.com/scottish-hillwalkers/](https://www.meetup.com/scottish-hillwalkers/) We're a  friendly group that was founded in 2008 to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so. We organise a wide range of walks year round including single Munros, multiple Munros, scrambling over ridges, weekends away and a selection of low level longer walks, pub walks and summer evening walks. We also organise child-friendly Munros. These shouldn't be considered "led walks" with a professional guide. Think of it more as going walking with a group of friends (and while you may not be friends with everyone at the start of the walk, you will be by the end of it!). However, everyone has to take responsibility for themselves as well as for each other, and everyone has a role to play (be it offering lifts to the start, helping with the navigation on the walk or bringing the jaffa cakes!) The organiser of a walk or event is the point of contact for the walk. Organisers do not lead walks and are not responsible for others or instructing them. Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this. The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com. If you have some ideas for walks and activities or perhaps once you have been on a few events, would like to get involved in organising one, please send us a message via [Mountain Goat's Meetup profile](https://www.meetup.com/members/8025412/). Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon, Mountain Goat

Glasgow Outdoor Korfball Fitness Meetup Group

Glasgow, V2

Hey everyone, the Korfball club has opened up a new session and are looking for new players who would like to give it a try. We run a kids club and some of the parents have decided to start their own session on Wednesday evenings. Never heard of korfball? That's fine, neither had anybody else before they came along. If you've ever had dreams about shooting a ball into a high hoop then please get in touch.

Following COVID guidance from the Scottish Korfball Association, we have started some non-contact training sessions in Queen's Park Recreation Ground in the Southside (just behind the bowling and tennis club, parking is best on Queen's Drive).

This session is genuinely aimed at total beginners so if you've never played before, you're almost over qualified.

If you are keen to come along, please bring outdoor footwear as we will be on the grass. Please also make sure you sanitise your hands before and after the session and if you have any Covid symptoms then obviously please do not attend.

As we are outdoors at the moment, we are also at the mercy of the weather, so best to check here in advance in case we get rained off.

Currently sessions are restricted to 30 persons and we must collect track and trace information on all participants. Therefore, please complete our COVID survey if you wish to attend:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrDb4xcZh0S-3mpnu-4QsZWSGhcew7uUlPy9494BSyc6ij-w/viewform?usp=sf_link

As Glasgow is in tier 3, current advice from Scot Gov is not to travel into Glasgow City Council area from a tier 2 area. Hopefully this will change in the near future, but, ya know.

Look forward to seeing you there!! Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Mad Hatters Walks and Adventures

Glasgow, V2

Mad Hatters Walks and Adventures
Welcome to the Mad Hatters, a social and outdoors activities group for grown ups.  Its all in the name.  If you like the outdoors, fun and laughter, and a mixed bag of activities then this is the Group for you.  **The Fun Bit...** Based in and around Glasgow we're a group of friendly, whimsical types. Like the Mad Hatter himself we can be loud and eccentric, but also rather charming.  Where we are most alike though is in the fact that we are never, ever, complimented on our singing.  The group is run for and by the members, it's not just for the hosts.   We're a group of like minded people that love getting out and about socialising.  We've learned that life is too short to take seriously, and who can be bothered with all the drama anyway.   So with some fun and laughter along the way and a mix of members just like Alice in Wonderland then we have the perfect characters to ensure that the group continues to be a success. We're a varied mix of members, some are long term residents, some are relatively new to Glasgow or Scotland and some are just after a change of lifestyle.   What we all have in common is that we love getting out and about, either in the great outdoors or socialising, and meeting new people.   We've all made new friends in the group, and we'd like to ensure that every member does the same.   So suggestions are always welcome either through the group on Meetup or on the [Mad Hatters Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/618240678338257/) page.   If you fancy doing something let us know, however crazy you think it might be.    So, your hosts would like to welcome you to our events, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do and if you enjoy your experiences with Mad Hatters we only ask that you spread the word that the Mad Hatters are here to stay .... :-P For those who enjoy their social media experience, you can find us on Facebook too under groups: [Mad Hatters Walks and Adventures](https://www.facebook.com/groups/618240678338257/). **The Boring Bit...**  We're all adults here, or big kids at heart, and you should all know your limits by now.  Members are responsible for their own safety and the hosts & organisers of Mad Hatters accept no liability for any mishaps, accidents, or injuries that may occur.   Your hosts  will try and look after you as best they can, but the unexpected can always happen. The outdoors can be an unforgiving place and responsibility for your safety ultimately lies with you. For further information about outdoor safety with Mad Hatters and a couple of membership rules please read our [Group Pages](https://www.meetup.com/Mad-Hatters-for-all-things-fun/about/).

Organisers
Organisers are volunteers who give up their own time to act as a contact point. Organisers do not accept responsibility for others or for instructing them. These are NOT guided walks run by qualified instructors.
Organiser, he or she is only helping by sharing his or her experience, and may not be qualified or regarded as a 'technical expert' in any way. Any less-experienced members of the club accompanying this more-experienced member must be aware that they take any advice on this basis, and that the onus of responsibility for deciding whether or not to rely on any such advice lies with the less-experienced member.

Venues
Organisers will provide a meeting place, a time, and a description of the route based on local knowledge and experience. Often a reference is made to “walk highlands” or other web sites where more detailed descriptions are available. Please pay particular attention to the "Grade" of walk, C (least strenuous) to A (most difficult).

Donations
As of late 2015, it is no longer a pre-requisite that members be requested to pay for walks. All donations made to the club shall be voluntary and should be handed to any of the organisers.

Cancellation/Changes

Walks may be cancelled or changed due to weather or other factors. Members should check walk details before departure .

Responsibility/liability
Members attend at their own risk, and are responsible for their own decisions and safety. Members should adopt the policy of “self reliance”.
Medical conditions, fitness level, weather conditions, ground conditions can all impact on members’ ability and stamina. Know your limitations!
It is important to come properly equipped and we follow the Mountaineering Council of Scotland's equipment recommendations, which, can be read on this link (LINK CLICK HERE)

Climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement."

New/Inexperienced members
As a club we encourage members to participate in suitable walks. If unsure about suitability, simply contact the organiser for advice.
Organisers and other experienced walkers are generally happy to assist new/inexperienced walkers when time and conditions permit, but do not take this for granted.

Fun and Safety
This club is about having fun while enjoying walks. Members enjoy each others company while achieving their goals, whether it is a Munro or a coastal walk. But please do not underestimate Scottish weather or conditions. If conditions deteriorate, stay as a group, work as a group, and come home safely with a smile.

Winter Walks
Walking in winter conditions is deemed to be “mountaineering”. Please read all the above again and ensure you are prepared. Winter walks can also be the most rewarding.

Getting the Most
We encourage our members to join The Mountaineering Council of Scotland who provide a range of instruction for mountaineering, hill walking and safety, to help you get even more from your chosen mountain activity. Membership has many additional benefits.

NB. Any accident, injury or illness contracted on any of the walks or at social events to persons or animals is not the responsibility of The Glasgow Walking and Hillwalking Club. Please make sure that you are adequately prepared and dressed for the walks or climbs. If you are unsure about your level of fitness, please check with your GP before coming on the walks.

A very warm welcome to our new members. We are a friendly, non-for-profit group of people who love to socialize outdoors. Although we are primarily a walking group, we will also be organizing other social events - weekends away, camping, cycling, kayaking, etc. All of our organizers volunteer their time to the group to facilitate a wide range of activities for the varying interests and abilities of our members. We welcome your suggestions for events from members and if you would like to get involved hosting, organising walks or contribute to other activities please get in touch with us – we are happy to accommodate new ideas and an additional pair of legs! Know in advance where you are meeting and ensure you make it to the event in good time; We come as a group and we leave as a group, therefore please keep with the pace of the specific walk set out by the Organizer. Walking and Nature Group for Women Therapists & Counsellors
**About The Rambling Therapists - A Walking and Nature Group for Women Therapists and Counsellors in Scotland** Hello and welcome to The Rambling Therapists - A Walking and Nature Group for Women Therapists and Counsellors in Scotland. We are a friendly and informal walking and nature group for WOMEN ONLY (anyone identifying as female/women) psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, coaches, hypnotherapists and other mental health practitioners in Scotland who are looking to make more social connections with others in our field of work, as well and enjoy the outdoors and nature.  Student and trainee therapists are also welcome. All modalities of therapy and counselling are welcome too. I have had this idea for a few years now and decided to take the plunge in autum 2024. The Rambling Therapists was born in 2024 and the focus is on bringing us all together for walks (easy-moderate) in various locations and other nature/oudoor activities. This is an informal friendship and connection group of like-minded other women who enjoy walks and appreciate nature and the outdoors. The aim of which is to connect with other women, share experiences, appreciate nature and hopefully make some new friends. The aim is to create something a bit more meaningful and make meaningful connections too. We are not fussy about having a large group of people - it's more about making meaningful connections with people and appreciated nature and the outdoors. The group would involve doing shared activities such as walks (hills, woodland, shore, parks, whatever people want); going along to some nature events/activities (which could take various forms) and engaging with other outdoor activires (e.g. picnics, sound baths, women's circles, nature-watching, boat trips and sometimes just meeting for a nice hot coffee and a chinwag in the park. There is also sope for some trips away wuch residential self care or nature retreats. Whatever others want, we can try and do. All events will be accessible via public transport though (unless others can offer some car share - good for environment - to places a little less accessible). I can't drive so it is something to consider when organising events. The success of the group relies on people turning up when they say they will. It's not a formal group or business - just a group of women who want to engage with nature and develop meaningful friendships and connections. There will be a teeny weeny fee of £1 per event though to help cover some of the costs of covering the Meetup yearly subscription (currently aroound £200 per year) and possibly insurance. It's not for me to cover those costs. Of course, there may be a cost for certain activities (e,g, sound baths, drips away etc.) but these will be clearly stated should there be interest in those things. Meetups will be IN-PERSON (sorry for stating the obvious!). Following the pandemic and the intensity of online working and socialising, we feel it's important to get out and socialise in person, enjoy nature, get moving, get out the house/office and support the small businesses we will use for events and get-togethers along the way. I don't know about you, but I've certainly had my fair share of online CPD, online meetings and online networking. It's time to get out there into the real world! And, given the stressful job we all do, the group will offer us all much needed rest, relaxation, laughter and connection. I live in Argyll and Bute and my clinic is in Glasgow. So, we will aim to create events and get-togethers across the central belt to start with. If things go well, there might be scope for walks, mini breaks, retreats or days away across other parts of Scotland. I rely on public transport (as do others) so the aim is to create events that can be accessed by public transport. This club is FREE. However, as I am paying for Meetup out of my own pocket, and giving up my time to organise events for free, I do ask for some courtesy and respect with regards attendance and cancellation. Please so not cancel at the last-minute or just don't turn up. This affects other members of the group as well as the viability of holding certain events. Consequently, in line with other Meetup (and social groups), there will be some 'Group Rules' (see below). **Group Rules and Other 'Adminy' Info** ***Bookings and RSVPs*** We really appreciate it when you keep your RSVP up-to-date, especially as organisers spend their free time arranging events, sourcing venues, booking events, corresponding with members, recruiting new members and making other arrangements to ensure socials can go ahead.  Please keep your RSVP up to date. It helps reduce organising time but it also ensures enough people attend each event. Remember, other members reply on other members turning up (it's a social, after all). So, it's important we have a good mix of people attending events and get-togethers. So, please ensure you RSVP if you want to attend and, if you find you can't attend, please change your RSVP accordingly. Organisers will contact members a week before an event/get-together to ensure they can still attend. If youcan no longer attend, then the place will be offered someone on the waiting list. If you don't respond to us 5 days prior to an event, you will be moved to the "not going" list. This takes organisers a lot of time to do, so please be aware of this and respond as soon as possible when messaged to ensure you keep your place. ***Deposits*** We are offering this group for free. However, some venues may ask for a small deposit when booking a certain number of places (e.g. for a nature activity such as a sound bath or day trip). In this situation, we will send our business banking details to you and we will pay the deposit on your behalf. Deposits are generally non-refundable, so please do keep that in mind. We've hosted many events for therapists etc. previously so we are used to taking deposits for the purposes of booking events/venues. ***Waiting Lists*** Some venues will have maximum numbers for attendance; however, if you join the Waiting List and can definitely attend, we will do our best to increase capacity.  So, if you can definitely attend an event/get-together which is full, please ensure you join the Waiting List or contact us so we can try an accommodate more people. ***3 Strikes*** Unfortunately, some members have not attended events when they have said they are attending or have regularly cancelled at the last minute (less than 5 days notice) or just not turned up. This means other members lose out on a place or we have to cancel an event that others wanted to attend. It might also mean that only the organiser or one or two members turn up.  We don’t want to let members or venues down. So, there will be a '3 Strikes' rule. So, if 1) you don't attend an event that you have RSVP'd 'yes' to; or 2) you cancel without a valid reason on the day of the event; or 3) you continuously cancel with less than 5 days notice; or 4) don't turn up at all and don't contact us thereafter, it will be counted as one strike. If you accumulate 3 strikes, unfortunately, you will be removed from the group. We don't like 'rules'; however, there's no point joining if you're not going to take part at least some of the time. ***Suggestions and Recommendations*** We very much welcome any suggestions, recommendations or ideas for events, venues and get-togethers. We hope to offer a wide range of walks and nature/outdoor activities over time to ensure that there is something for everyone. We aim to host events and get-togethers in various locations, so again, suggestions are welcome in areas we are not familiar with too. Please feel free to get in touch if you need any more information, have any questions, would like to make a suggestion, have an idea or would like to help with organising events and get-togethers. Myself, and other members, looking forward to meeting with you at a social soon. All the best, Alexandra ***The Rambling Therapists*** **E: contact@mhwell.co.uk**
