Sunrise Hiking in Coachella Valley

1. This is social hiking sunrise hiking group.
2. We do our hikes at moderate to a fast pace. Typically not a slow pace. Newbies can contact Jason Bruecks and state they would like to hike the trail at slower pace to get use to the trail. Our typical speed is 20 minutes per mile. We finish in about 1 hour.
3. We hike from the Upper Parking Lot of Rancho Mirage City and travel on Big Horn Overlook, Chuckwalla, and Road Runner Trails. There is a portion of the hike which is on road.
4. This is safe zone. Not a dating group, no politics or religion discussion. All walks of life and ethnic diversity are welcome.
5. Our hikes start early, typically are 3 miles and 450 elevation gain and drop.
6. Our morning hikes are a community service, and no fee is required. We do have a hiking group that hikes most weekends, camps, whitewater rafts, snorkels and other outdoor activities...there is an 12 month fee to join that group. Sunrise Group is free and each who joins assumes their own liability and health.

Welcome to S.C.H.P., Snow, Climb, Hike and Peakbag Group. This group is for those interested in trail hikes, off trail treks, peakbagging, snowshoe, snow climbs, car camping and backpacking.

We hike, snowshoe, snow climb, peakbag, backpack and camp in SoCal and beyond.

In the interest of maintaining an active membership, any member who has not signed up for a hike at least once every 3 months will be removed.

We keep our groups small in the interest of enjoyment and safety. Some events do require prior experience, specialized gear, and/or technical skills. These include winter hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, and advanced hikes. If you're new to a particular activity, make sure you contact the event organizer. It is often possible to accommodate less experienced members, but not always.

No one in the group is a guide or in any way responsible for your comfort or safety. Please be prepared with adequate gear and supplies for the trip. Going out into wilderness has inherent risks associated with it including but not limited to: falls, unstable footing, rocks, insects, snakes, heat, rain, snow, lightning, poisonous plants and you should be aware and prepared to address any changes in weather, trail conditions, road conditions and to look out for and avoid random acts of nature, including insects, wild animals and natural hazards.

It is your responsibility to evaluate the difficulty of any activity you participate in and decide whether you are prepared by having the experience, skill, knowledge, equipment, and the physical and emotional stamina to safely participate.

Travel may be part of an activity. You assume all responsibility for any accident whether you are driving or carpooling with another member.

It is MANDATORY that each member of this group maintain a current, recognizable face picture as the MAIN profile picture for search and rescue purposes. Deleting the photo once approved will be cause for removal from the group.

Our membership does consist of Married Couples, Committed Couples and Singles. Our group thrives on the diversity of its members. If you are looking for hiking friends, this is a good group for you. If you are looking for a singles club or group, please look elsewhere.

Sketch Palm Springs

Sketch Palm Springs is a sketching group that meets to draw on location in and around Palm Springs using portable tools. Sketches can be simple or elaborate but most often they will be quick and spontaneous to capture the world as it is at a given moment. There is no pressure to create a finished work of art. It is an opportunity for each sketcher to create their own visual journal of everyday life. Sketchers use favorite portable materials: pencil, markers, colored pencils, watercolors, ink, tablet, or whatever they prefer. Anyone who wants to explore Palm Springs by sketching on location is invited. All levels are welcome, from those who will be sketching for the first time, to those who have an active sketching practice. Participants must be 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. We will primarily have outings in Palm Springs, although we may go further afield occasionally. When weather permits, we will meet outdoors where we can sketch people, buildings, streetscapes, special events, parks, or whatever captures our interest. We may also meet at indoor venues like museums, coffee shops, bars, or other public spaces. The options in Palm Springs are endless. Locations will be determined by group interests. **There will be several meetups each month at varying times and days**. The format of the meetups will be as follows: * We will all meet in a designated spot at the specified beginning time * The first 10 or 15 minutes will be introductions and planning for the meetup * Then we will fan out around the meeting spot, either alone or with others, to sketch for a specified period of time * Finally in the last 15 or 20 minutes we will meet up again as a group where we will have a “throw down” (this is where sketchers put their sketches down on the ground or a table so everyone can see them.) Participation in the throw down is not required but it is encouraged. It is not as intimidating as it sounds and it is a great way to learn and be inspired by others’ sketches. There are many options. **Other:** * Participation in events in public places with no admission charge is free. Attendance at special events, venues with admission charges, or eating and drinking establishments will require each participant to pay their own way. * The group will be organized on Meetup.com for the first six months. We will see how that works for members. There will also be an instagram account so members can post their sketches if they would like. * When sketching outside, bring a hat, water, sunblock, snacks, and other things you need to be safe and comfortable. Non Negotiable Rules: * Always be kind to and accepting of other sketchers. * Do not be judgemental about sketches, your own or others'. * If you are an experienced sketcher, be generous with your experience and knowledge but don’t give unsolicited advice. * If you are a beginner, don’t get down on yourself and don’t compare your drawings to others. The more you sketch, the more confident you will become. * If you RSVP for an event, please show up or withdraw your RSVP if you can’t make it. * Be respectful of locations and others who are using them. Do not leave litter. Don’t set yourself up in such a way that you are impeding others. Welcome! I have spent 24 years teaching hundreds of people how to boost their creative confidence and self-expression. The purpose of this MeetUp is to experience art, architecture & design, to create art, and to have open discussions about the meaning (and the myths) about what it is to be a creator. Creative Growth in the Desert is for anyone who seeks growth, respects diversity and inclusion, and enjoys making new discoveries. I have been a MeetUp organizer for 6 years, and I am a member of more than a dozen groups, and have attended 100+ events. Past events I've hosted have included visits to artist studios, museums and galleries. And since the courses I've taught in 'Visual Thinking' have focused on project-based learning, there will be opportunities to make things (even if you don't think you are artistic). The challenge is to connect + stay safe in these difficult times. So there will be some virtual events, small group visits to exhibits at places like the Palm Springs Museum of Art, and outdoor events, such as a walking tour of the dozens of large scale public artworks in 29 Palms, known as the "Oasis of Murals."
