Outdoor Girlfriends (SGV)

Rosemead, CA

Outdoor Girlfriends (SGV)
Join the OGs (Outdoor Girlfriends), a community of open-and like-minded women who enjoy staying active and exploring the great outdoors. OGs is a place to meet new friends, learn and be inspired among other amazing women! Let's be present, mindful and enjoy the journey, rather than just reaching the destination. This group is for women of all backgrounds, races, colors, creeds, and status. What we'll do: Plenty of easy to moderate hikes, plus lunches, potlucks, museum visits, bike rides, beach days, volleyball, etc. Always open to new ideas! Events will mostly be in the San Gabriel Valley, but also LA & OC areas. ***Before joining, please read a few guidelines below.*** **ATTENDANCE:** Be respectful of the organizer and group. If plans change, please update your RSVP as soon as possible and notify the event organizer as a courtesy. Flaking to an event, especially with a wait-list, or changing your RSVP at the last minute means someone else does not have the opportunity to join. If you are a no-show more than 2 times without at least letting the organizer(s) know, you may be suspended or removed from the group. A lot of work is put into organizing events and we ask for your consideration in return. **HIKES** Hikes will range from easy (<5 miles, <2000’ gain) to moderate (5-10 miles, 2000-3500’ gain), with an occasional strenuous hike (10+ miles, >3500’ gain). Pace will be 2-3 mph (average). There’s time for pictures on the trails, but please be aware of your fitness level and considerate of the time so everyone could have a good experience and complete the hike within the allotted time. **CARPOOLING:** Feel free to reach out to other attendees if you are willing to give a carpool or need a carpool. If you decide to ride with someone, please be kind enough to share with the driver a gallon or two worth for their trouble and gas. **PHOTO:** Please have a clear photo of yourself on your profile so we could identify you. **DISCLAIMER:** The sole role of the organizer is to organize the event. They are not responsible for anyone’s safety or any incident before, during, or after the event. Participants fully understand the risks, dangers, and hazards associated with any outdoor activity, and freely accept and fully assume all such risks, dangers and hazards. Participants also further agree to release and discharge all Organizers of the Outdoor Girlfriends Meetup Group from and against any and all liability arising from you and your guest’s participation in the group activities. **Let’s have fun!**

The Cerritos Tennis & Misc activity group.

Norwalk, CA

My purpose for starting this group, is for any person and their guest who registered with "meetup.com", is for you to have a definite place and time to play tennis almost as much as you want, regardless of your skill level, but if you say"YES", please do all you can to be there for the sake of others who have commuted from a distance.. Our first meetup was great, and I hope to see you all soon.In addition, My goal is for me, and the other organizers of our group is to set up a wide variety of activities for our members:

Of all the descriptions of player levels -- from "A, B and C" to "beginner, intermediate, advanced" -- the best system was developed bv the U.S. Tennis Association in 1979. The USTA defines player levels on a scale from 1.0 to 7.0 in its National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP). A condensed version appears below. Take a few moments to determine your likely playing level.

1.0 Just starting to play tennis

1.5 Has limited experience and is still working primarily on getting the ball into play.

2.0 Needs on-court experience. Has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play.

2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

3.0 Fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control, depth or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.

3.5 Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage and is developing teamwork in doubles.

4.0 Has dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. Occasionally forces errors when serving and teamwork in doubles is evident. Rallies may be lost due to impatience.

4.5 Starting to master the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to overhit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in doubles.

5.0 Has good shot anticipation and frequently has an outstanding shot or exceptional consistency around which a game may be structured. Can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away volleys, can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys and overhead smashes and has good depth and spin on most second serves.

5.5 Has developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon. Can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hit dependable shots in a stress situation.

6.0 Has obtained a sectional and/or national ranking.

6.5 Has extensive satellite tournament experience.

7.0 Makes his living from tournament prize money.

Anaheim, CA

Snow Social Club

Let's go outdoors. Snowboard and ski in the winter and hiking and camping in the summer. Are you adventures and looking for friends to do various outdoor activities with. We are too. We started as a snowboarding group but have now ventured into outdoor adventures and more! We love winter sports and enjoy summer adventures as well. When there is snow, we hit up the slopes. In warmer months, we keep up the fun through hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and other outdoor adventures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0dx2fIIe0c

If you don't snowboard or ski, want to learn or enjoy outdoor adventures, we welcome you too!

Get ready to meet with local snowboarders and adventurers! Feel free to post trips & plan event with other snowboarders and outdoors enthusiasts via the message board or email. We will also meet up now & then to share boarding and outdoors stories & ideas about resorts, vacations, equipment, etc. We will do happy hours, social networking and other fun things too!

*We snowboard and/or ski in Mammoth. If not Mammoth, we do local trip such as Mt. Baldy and Big Bear Mountain (Snow Summit and Bear Mountain). We don't discourage venturing to Vail, Aspen, Park City, Whistler, etc. The possibility is endless. Join us. If you are fun, adventurous, love the snow and the outdoors and cool adventures, and enjoy social networking, we welcome you! :)

We are getting ready for our first snowboarding/skiing trip of the year. Are you itching to go snowboarding or skiing? I sure am. I can't wait! Snowboarding. Yeppy!

Mammoth Mountain opens November 8 just in time for the three-day Veterans Day Weekend and we will be there! This will be the third season we have been going as a group and I must say that we have had a ton of fun and made great friends. What I really like about our trips is that the people who go are all great people looking to hang out on and off the slopes!

We have a luxurious condo for the three day weekend. And did I mention the food? Included with the trip are dinners... not frozen pizza, canned soup and microwaved fishsticks, but yummy cooked dinners such as tri-tip, rack of lamb, fresh veggies and dessert!

I checked Mammoth's website and they have season passes on sale until November 10. After that the price will probably double! If you get a pass while it's on sale you can definitely make good use of it on this and other trips we are planning

!

If you don't think you want to ski or snowboard the entire weekend, there is still plenty of cool stuff to do. Ever been to Mono Lake and seen the tufas? It's like you're on another planet! Ever hiked into a volcano crater? Or what about hotsprings? Who doesn't like hotsprings?
